birdmanjeremy··on Permanent Daylight Saving Time? Florida Says Yes, but It’s Not So Simple
PDT FOREVER!
birdmanjeremy··on No hugging: are we living through a crisis of touch?
You guys don't hug your friends? Weirdos...
birdmanjeremy··on Blue-collar wages are surging. Can it last?
Community college. It's cost effective and a great way to get your feet wet. I took a welding class at my local, and couldn't believe how cheap it was.
birdmanjeremy··on iOS Privacy: Easily get a user's Apple ID password, just by asking
If you look at the dialog, there is a '.' (period) at the end of the email address, inside the quotation ("). The author replicated this, even though it seems strange.
birdmanjeremy··on Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL announced
Yes. It sucks.
birdmanjeremy··on Scientists Design Solar Cell That Captures Nearly All Energy of Solar Spectrum
I like your optimism, but I think you're wrong. It may already be too late.
birdmanjeremy··on Creating a ZigBee Chain Reaction
It seems to end with EE 31
birdmanjeremy··on U.S. Subprime Auto Loan Losses Reach Highest Level Since the Financial Crisis
Really? Both our cars are financed at < 2%. Cheap auto loans are all over the place.

birdmanjeremy··on Amazon files patent for flying warehouse
The store has to charge an additional fee for having a retail location.
birdmanjeremy··on Donald Trump Is Elected President
Any insight into potential impacts on the tech industry?
birdmanjeremy··on 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV
Thanks. That sucks, the Rav4 EV really is a great car. It's too bad it exists in such small numbers.
birdmanjeremy··on 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV
Do you have a source on the last part? The rav4 EV has an aggressive regen mode, it's just not the default state of the 'transmission'.
birdmanjeremy··on Cayenne – Drag-and-drop IoT project builder
No ESP8266 support?
birdmanjeremy··on The $50,000 San Francisco Home
Yes, cost of land was factored in to the original post. That's what the whole section about density was about. Keeping land costs at 10k per unit defines how many units you need to put on a given plot of land, based on price paid.
birdmanjeremy··on VotePlz – The Easiest Way to Vote
Neither voteplz or vote.org show me as registered, but ocvote.com does. Seems like the main thing these sites are designed to do doesn't work, unless they are actually designed to collect and sell emails...
birdmanjeremy··on WeWork evicted a startup after it published a negative blog post about it
They got evicted "effective immediately", not at the end of their 1 month term. This is not a refusal to renew, which I expect requires some amount of notice greater than 30 minutes.
birdmanjeremy··on Facebook Messenger begins testing end-to-end encryption using Signal Protocol
If this is why they are pushing me away from using messenger in the mobile browser, I'm suddenly way less upset.
birdmanjeremy··on Traffic-weary homeowners and Waze are at war
Locals only, brah. Go back to the marked detour you kook.
birdmanjeremy··on Uber Driver Charged with Attempted Murder Had an ‘Extensive Criminal Record’
Probably that prison and probation are not rehabilitation. Rehabilitation is not part of the criminal justice system in the US. Punishment does not, by itself, rehabilitate successfully.
birdmanjeremy··on Warwalking WiFi Networks with ESP8266 IoT Module
I wonder how long the battery lasts? I've been playing with the ESP8266 chips as well, and they're great. Haven't had a chance to hook them up to a battery yet or test more precise power consumption.
birdmanjeremy··on Twilio ramps up mobile play with programmable SIMs for IoT, handsets with T-Mo
This is what I do. It's basically free.
birdmanjeremy··on End to End Learning for Self-Driving Cars [pdf]
This is really interesting, but I'd want autonomous cars to be better than humans at driving, not to emulate them.
birdmanjeremy··on Ask HN: Moving Out of Silicon Valley because of housing? Where to?
IMO, the weather is nice for about 4 weeks out of the year (~2 in the spring, ~2 in the fall).

I lived in the RDU area for nearly 30 years. I grew up there. I didn't realize what I was missing until I moved to California (Orange County). Of course it's more expensive, but I think you get what you pay for in this case. Costal living is expensive for a reason.

birdmanjeremy··on Fixing the Inequity of Startup Equity
Unless I'm mistaken, even if your exercise price is low, you may still owe a crapton (technical term) in taxes if the company has a high enough valuation.

birdmanjeremy··on Oklahoma City's War on Obesity
Your cousin is a coke head, and likely has an eating disorder. This is not the norm outside of her group of friends.
birdmanjeremy··on Google Nexus 5x and 6P

birdmanjeremy··on Ohm (YC S15) is a smarter, lighter car battery that works with your existing car
I've never seen anyone do this. We just run lightweight batteries and keep the car on a tender.
birdmanjeremy··on All Major Browsers Fall at Pwn2Own Day Two
It's risk vs reward. If he had a 50% chance of success, and spent a year on the exploits, you could equate it to 112.5k salary+benefits package (assuming it was a full time job to find the exploits). I would call 112.5 low for the tech industry, especially for someone of his caliber.

Either way, very impressive and well deserved.
