bathory··on ChatGPT Work
On Windows, ChatGPT is now known as ChatGPT Classic, and Codex is now known as ChatGPT (Beta).
bathory··on We're extending access to Fable 5 on all paid plans through July 12
It is, many people are hungry for GPT-5.6, considering it is supposed to be Fable class, with lower costs. Many Claude users were ready to jump ship.
bathory··on Identity verification on Claude
Anthropic claim that if you have a verification issue, they will give you support; remains to be seen what that will actually come down to

bathory··on Cash payments above €3000 to be outlawed in Netherlands
There is a somewhat famous case in Germany, where an elderly couple's house got sold without them knowing, because someone changed the paper deed, and some scummy business man confirmed that he got the money in cash.

They better introduce systems like this in Germany too, but they rather drown in mafia related crime than admitting that their analog way of doing business and clinging on to cash is a mistake.

concerning how most second level comments get played by WSS. The quality of comments here on HN has declined horribly :(

bathory··on EU-wide maximum limit of €10K for cash payments
That too, isn't allowed by European law. :-)
bathory··on Small Investors Who Jumped into Crypto on FTX Say, Now What?
Making it sound like you can get this rate for Euros by saying in EU is dishonest.

You should mention for which currency this holds, not mention a whole continent.

bathory··on It seems that the good times for online Minecraft play are over
I have spent more than 10’000 hours in DotA 2. You do not get banned for a single game no matter how bad you perform.

It has to be on a very regular basis, and even then you probably first get put into low priority matchmaking as your behavior score drops. Banning accounts usually only applies to cheats or buying and selling accounts.

bathory··on Arrest of suspected developer of Tornado Cash
Wrong. Germany for example is known [0] for money laundering through properties, because big cash purchases hardly ever get reported.

bathory··on 911 Proxy Service Implodes After Disclosing Breach
Hi!

Very interesting service, but sadly I cannot sign up for a trial, due to not possessing a US telephone number, which for some reason is required. That said I am a researcher at an Internet measurement and security group. Any chances for a cooperation?

bathory··on Dropbox Shop Beta
The iOS client for OneDrive integrates quite well with macOS. A lot better than iCloud for Windows actually.
bathory··on 700M users and Premium
If you have an iOS device, you can force the app store to refresh and update Telegram. Then once updated, in the app under settings, you can select Telegram Premium and pay with Apple Pay
bathory··on 700M users and Premium
Looking at the in-app purchase on iOS in Europe, the price seems to be about EUR 5.50 which I find to be quite steep, for these kinds of features. I've been wanting to support TG's development for a while now, but I would have hoped that this would be more in the vicinity of 1-3 Euros per month.
bathory··on Bitcoin Falls Below $20k
Because:

a.) we are not at pre-corona levels yet and

b.) most of the highly valued companies which are publicly tradable will continue to provide value to the world or their customers, contrary to the crypto crap.

Then why did the US gov. go after the people from Liberty Reserve?

I understand that the whole concept of committing crime was a bit clearer in LR than it is in Tether, but Tether sounds like what LR would have been, after they learned from their mistakes?

bathory··on Harvey’s Casino Bomb

Compare your result, with the end result seen here [1]. It is a completely different color as well as texture.

Is this what Fastly is thinking about my IP?

Just wanted to chime in and also say that this is extremely confusing for a RegEx beginner, but thanks for your work, it looks really nice.
bathory··on N26 customers feel betrayed by the German digital bank’s decision to quit the UK
- Of course you have an IBAN, it displays when you click on the profile icon on the top right.

- Sounds reasonable?

- FaceID works for 30 days, after that you have to enter your pass again for FaceID to work another 30 days, it says so when activating FaceID

- I agree that there are no really nice "extras"

Revolut lets you receive many different currencies at 1:1 Interbank exchange rates during weekdays. That is pretty amazing compared to any bank.

Hosting a RIPE Atlas probe means you will generate credits, which you can then spend on measurements. All Atlas measurements require those credits as a form of payment. In short: there is no free API.

You can also receive credits as a donation, e.g. by someone who hosts a probe.

This is an interesting article and I’m sure someone with a constant supply of credits would surely donate a few of them, for you to continue this research.
