Their bulk of hiring will be younger folks. Those people generally move closer to work and show up everyday at office.
Smaller companies will be pragmatic in a different way. They will try to retain good employees. They realize the benefits of remote workers.
Also Meta could catch up if it was just software. But how big of a deal is the M2+R1?
Anyway the metaverse was already being retracted, else this Vision Pro could have hammered Meta.
Clearly Occulus has to evolve to match VisionPro. Controller has to be optional. It has to have better AR. Meta has to be the more "open" alternative to Apple's ecosystem barriers.
And some might argue you just switch apps to find that "screen".
Personally I would put something interesting on the ceiling and look up at it.
Hope it is real sustainable performance in SEA. My fear is that it will be easier to run the "venture backed grow at all costs" model in Asia.
This sucks the oxygen out of the ecosystem, very anti-competitive, short-sighted and not great overall.
The operators involved do not learn to be real, thoughtful and long-term oriented. I have friends who were out-spent by newer venture-backed plays, which aren't doing that well either.
In short, the highs will be high, but the lows could be very bad too.
Maybe Reddit never put in many dopamine triggers like other social media (but Twitter is more than dopamine hooks). And maybe they didn't monetize hard also.
These days, building community is better in other tools now: eg. WhatsApp works (shrug). Knowledge-share type discussions is better even in google groups tbh. Maybe Reddit is a good place to vent haha?
Apple Vision v3 will not be a sweat box. And even right now, Occulus interface has to evolve to match this. Controller has to be optional. It has to be AR.
There are a few big problems - waste management, particularly plastic and other toxic forever chemicals; overuse of toxic chemicals in agri that ends up in the food chain; depletion of soil and water; not enough will to tackle problems sustainably.
So a few people can consume more and more -- exacerbated by marketing ads and infinite profit motives.
Anyway, good luck to all trying to fight distractions!
Also OP, please show something in a ShowHN haha
No reason to downvote your comment btw.
Elon being a micromanager (assuming he is) can not be the only reason a rocket (re)flies each weekend.
Is it predatory on unsuspecting buyers? many times. Is it worse for a slice of the economy? Yes.
But free returns is unsustainable. Hence it eats into quality of products sold.
Even in the US, there are countless things you cannot return.
Good point also about how various online ordering pushed brick-and-mortar beyond recovery; with many such loss-leading and predatory practices.
