Ads through a network like CPMStar were the majority, averaged about $0.50 per thousand views. At the time there was also a flash game marketplace at fgl.com, that let game portals like Addicting Games or Newgrounds bid to "sponsor" your game which involved adding their branding and links to their site. On my most popular game I made $100k over a few years.
Jsx is not complex but it adds additional cognitive load keeping in mind everything is still JS and the small differences between Html. Also the common libraries that people use in a React app tend to be overkill. Things like Flux/redux add way too much boilerplate for small-medium projects yet everyone uses it.
I think a lot of the problem is React's syntax and ecosystem is too complicated for the majority of sites out there. IMO using React to make static sites and regular CMS / document type sites is way overkill no matter how performance optimized it is.
I've been experimenting with Vue and I'm liking it more and more just for the simplicity.
GDScript is reasonable once you've picked it up and Godot shines for 2D games because of simplicity compared to Unity. The main hassle that killed it for me is the effort required to integrate all the 3rd party libraries from ad companies, analytics, etc. There's not really good support on wrappers for common 3rd party libraries on mobile. If you're serious about game dev I'd focus on Unity because that's where the ecosystem is.
Is there any advantage to buildpacks if you're comfortable making custom Dockerfiles? Seems like Docker would give you a lot more flexibility and clarity over what's deployed.
It's definitely a bug, over the last few days I'd notice that when viewing images in landscape mode, it would first load the camera, then load the image. And when you closed the image, it would leave you on the camera page.
Godot was great when I tried it, it’s much simpler and nicer to use than Unity for 2d games.
The cons were there are some minor Mac IDE bugs (seems like maintainers mainly use Linux), but the biggest issue is the godot plugin ecosystem is much smaller than the unity plugin ecosystem and writing native bindings e.g. for an ad sdk is non-trival and you’d have to do it for each platform and each external sdk you integrate with.
He never said anything about being a stay at home parent, he's saying the lower income partner is the one who benefits financially and in some states alimony is perpetual after some amount of years.
For most (70-80%) of the Amazon basic products I've tried, the quality and durability has been significantly lower than the product that it tried to copy. Not to mention no one wants wants their gear branded with Basic on it. I usually try to avoid Amazon basic products if possible.
That’s what Game of War was like. Every tech level was around a 2x improvement than the one before it. So much of the game was high level pay to win players beating up on the low level free players 1v20.
For such an advanced JVM, having to prewarm it by calling code 5000x times or the JVM being much more memory hungry than other non-JVM languages doesn't feel like the cutting edge.
Might be an unpopular opinion, but in terms of value I think phones are worth it. Think of how much time people spend on their phones, and how much frustration you save from not having a PoS phone. For many people, phone's are their "computer".
FWIW GDScript is modeled after python. It's a good scripting language overall. The only thing clunky to me is the way they do callbacks, which they call signals.
From what I read their next major goal is shipping Vulcan support.
If you're live-coding you should be constantly talking aloud what you're doing and what you're thinking about. The most popular Twitch streamers are usually good at filling silence.
Why not limit federal aid and student loans to "in-demand" majors? Do we really want high school students getting >$100k debt for majors with limited market value?
