b0sk··on Anthropic employees accuse Trump administration of targeting them
During the Obama administration, when solar companies were subsidized, the refrain was that "government was picking winners and losers". But now, there's a cut and dry case of one company getting targeted by the administration. Either ban all the powerful models or ban none of them.
b0sk··on Sam Bankman-Fried applies for a pardon from Trump
Remember Sam -- Trevor Milton got a pardon via hiring Pam Bondi's brother as his lawyer.
b0sk··on Sam Altman and Dario Amodei are both walking back AI jobs apocalypse predictions
This feels orchestrated (someone made a phone call to them). Look at this a16z tweet : https://x.com/a16z/status/2059687657840713925?s=20
b0sk··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
This was from the official DHS account -- https://xcancel.com/DHSgov/status/2006472108222853298

What do you think they mean by "100 million"?

b0sk··on 560-610 minutes of exercise a week needed for substantial heart benefits
that's assuming you are walking at a fairly brisk pace.. the article says

> 560 and 610 minutes a week of moderate to vigorous physical activity

b0sk··on Trump's global tariffs struck down by US Supreme Court
Witkoffs profited off the UAE Spy Sheikh chips deal! Why can't Lutnicks make millions?! Come on guys. Unfair.

b0sk··on US Tech Force
This is not a political appointment, but if you have mentioned something even mildly negative about a certain person in the past, not only we'll walk you out, we'll probably arrest you!
b0sk··on Monads are too powerful: The expressiveness spectrum
This is great imo -- https://www.adit.io/posts/2013-04-17-functors,_applicatives,...
b0sk··on State Department Revokes Visas over Charlie Kirk Comments
So hypothetically, a future Dem administration can deport right-leaning visa holders?
b0sk··on Rand Paul: FCC chair had "no business" intervening in ABC/Kimmel controversy
There's actually a word for it - jawboning
b0sk··on After getting Jimmy Kimmel suspended, FCC chair threatens ABC's The View
Don't be naive. There was no jawboning from the previous administration to networks to cancel someone -- especially someone who always made fun of the President.

However, this is a a classic example of violation of 1A. (I agree that the thing that was probably in the grey area was they asked Twitter to remove certain COVID-19 medical disinformation tweets -- But, come on, many people were consuming horse dewormers for COVID and dying. )

The right's cancel culture is a violation of constitution because it's the government that's doing the cancelling.

b0sk··on Igor Babuschkin, a co-founder of xAI, has announced his departure
He's the guy that blamed an ex-OpenAI employee after one of many Grok's fails https://fortune.com/2025/02/24/xai-chief-engineer-blames-for...
b0sk··on Supreme Court formally asked to overturn same-sex marriage ruling
Wilhoit's Law: Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
b0sk··on Helix Editor 25.07

b0sk··on U.S. bombs Iranian nuclear sites
It is fascinating. He lies so much, keeps repeating those lies and somehow people start believing those lies.
b0sk··on U.S.-born American citizen under ICE hold in Florida after driving from Georgia
If you are ungrounded from the news, don't make smartass comments like "Nobody is going to deport citizens. You seem to have become ungrounded in your reality."
b0sk··on Feds indict ex-Michigan FB coach Matt Weiss: Hacked computers to spy on women
I think doing illegal things gave him that extra kick. real innocent people and all.
b0sk··on Tesla shares plunge 14%, head for worst day in five years
Michael Jordan famously said "Republicans buy sneakers too". This guy doesn't care about any of this and he's still the right guy to steer Tesla in the correct direction? Mind boggling.
b0sk··on Tesla Is Alienating the People It Needs Most: Study
Rivian R2 is going to change the game. It's a direct competitor to the best selling Tesla (Y). I have an R1S (as well as a Y) but R1S is such an amazing SUV to drive. Especially in the bad weather.
b0sk··on Musk aides gain access to sensitive Treasury payment system
Remember that they are all controlled by one party, so everyone is willing to look the other way (and cynically, probably cheerleading it)
b0sk··on United States Digital Service Renamed to DOGE
(Not mine) This is like buying Twitter and renaming it to X
b0sk··on Show HN: A daily digest for reMarkable
kindle support would be great!
b0sk··on California Fire Facts
They did the same thing during the hurricane in North Carolina. "FEMA is giving funds to illegals!!!".

The lack of any sort of fact checking and relying on community notes to do fact checking is just inherently flawed and works in favor of the disinformation artists. It's going to get worse.

b0sk··on Palantir and Anduril join forces with tech groups to bid for Pentagon contracts
Of course, it'll give them inside track. This is crony capitalism.

When Musk was busy spouting off conspiracies about Biden admin, SpaceX still won a lot of grants. That sort of independence is going to be dead.

b0sk··on Bluesky just crossed 20M users
The "algorithm" aspect of the platform has improved for me. Here's what I did -- I artificially liked a non-trivial number of posts of topics I liked (say CS theory, systems programming, NFL, Soccer etc). Now the "Discover" feed is good (not great but this is a start).

A few days back when I was starting out, the Discover feed was mostly random.

b0sk··on Could DOGE cut $2T? The legal and practical reality of government reform
That's nice and all if there's independence between congress and exec branch. Exec branch wields total power in this admin and Congress just obeys.
b0sk··on Maybe Bluesky has "won"
Bluesky's issue is the Discover feed is not good. After a few days of activity, the suggestions are mostly random and nowhere close to the stuff I want. Twitter was very good - it makes sense because the graph is rich.
b0sk··on Tesla Optimus Bots Were Remotely Operated at Cybercab Event
Actually, I won't be surprised if it turns out that the 40 or so cybercabs were remote-controlled too.
b0sk··on Silicon Valley's tech titans line up to donate to Donald Trump
Sunak gracefully handed over the Prime Ministership to Starmer with zero hiccups.

You know what happened here? Trump tried to force Pence to not certify the election (VP certifies all the votes from the electors) and even appointed fake electors. And obviously the January 6th shenanighans.

And to top it off, his current VP pick JD Vance has publicly said that if he were in Pence's position, he wouldn't have certified the election results. So 2028 will be interesting if these guys lose.
