awestroke··on 3M to end 'forever chemicals' output
Forever chemicals, also known as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), are a group of man-made chemicals that are used in a variety of products because of their ability to repel oil, water, and stains. They are called "forever chemicals" because they do not break down in the environment and can accumulate in the body over time.

There are a number of dangers associated with exposure to forever chemicals. Some of the potential health effects of PFAS include:

- Increased risk of cancer: Some studies have suggested that exposure to PFAS may increase the risk of certain types of cancer, including testicular, kidney, and pancreatic cancer.

- Harm to the immune system: PFAS have been shown to impair the immune system and interfere with the body's ability to produce antibodies.

- Developmental and reproductive problems: PFAS have been linked to developmental problems in infants and children, including low birth weight and reduced fertility in women.

- Thyroid hormone disruption: PFAS have been shown to disrupt the normal functioning of the thyroid gland, which can lead to problems with metabolism and energy levels.

- Other health effects: Other potential health effects of PFAS exposure include liver damage, high cholesterol, and decreased effectiveness of vaccines.

It is important to note that the extent of the health risks associated with PFAS exposure is still being studied, and more research is needed to understand the full range of potential effects on human health.

My personal prediction is that this will be like leaded gasoline all over again, but much much worse. We're already seeing these chemicals in drinking water all over the globel, in concentrations above limits deemed "safe".

awestroke··on 3M to end 'forever chemicals' output
Forever chemicals is an informal term that collectively refers to the class of synthetic chemicals known as perfluoroalkyl substances and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS.

So, no.

awestroke··on 3M to end 'forever chemicals' output
The cost of processing all of earth's oceans, freshwater and groundwater to remove these chemicals. Quite the cost.

Really?
awestroke··on Pollution cleanup method destroys toxic “forever chemicals”
* Forever chemicals are a huge problem, and even TFA does not give any hope at all in reducing the insane amounts of PFAS and related chemicals in the environment. We need to stop releasing mind-boggling amounts of it before we come up with nifty techniques to destroy a few millilitres of it

* We have found enzymes that degrade PET, which is highly recyclable anyway. There are no hints at all that we would be able to first find enzymes for the hundreds of other plastics, and then manufacture and release enough into the environment to make a difference.

* The seriousness of climate change has been communicated in every single way across the spectrum of possible approaches. Our civilization is simply not equipped to handle a problem of this magnitude. We are past the point of no return, and if you actually looked into our energy usage and what it would take to solve this with technology, you would come to the same conclusion. But feel free to keep denying it, makes no difference in the end.

You are too old.

awestroke··on Apple Execs on iMessage for Android (2013)
I was actually wrong on this. iPhone still does not have proper files. I can't add files on my iPhone and have multiple apps read them.
awestroke··on Apple Execs on iMessage for Android (2013)
Oh yeah, what details are those? That for the longest time, Apple thought too little of their users to allow them to store files on their phone? Or the fact that the iPhone massively over-processes photos, to the point where you can instantly tell that a photo is taken with an iPhone (and not in a good way)? Or the fact that they still use lightning connectors, which they have held a cramped grip on until they are forced to switch to new technology? Or the fact that the App Store, XCode, ObjectiveC and related docs are widely regarded to have the worst DX in the industry? Or maybe that you don't own your phone enough that you can sideload apps? Or the detail that you pay 10000% markup if you choose to buy a phone with extra storage?

It's pretty obvious when it does emit copyrightable code, and you mostly have to really try to make that happen. Have you even used copilot yourself?

Graphics is very parallel, and so not that affected by a single-core performance plateau. We can keep increasing number of gpu cores.
