audiometry··on Ask HN: What skills do you want to develop or improve in 2025?
Yeah this was exactly my conclusion too. And it enabled me to give up things that I wasn’t good at, couldn’t consistently practice, and felt as tremendous burdens. (Namely music and foreign languages). They just don’t stimulate me enough to be able to consistently practice as much as is required for mastery. Unlike jumping a bike which I can do for hours on end. Wish I could play music better and speak Japanese, but I can’t and I finally realized I never would for fundamental chemistry reasons

All these suggestions about different or better planning programs or habit forming things etc…. They have an efficacy that last six weeks, then wears off, and they themselves become another shameful burden.

And yes methylphenidate helps.

audiometry··on Show HN: AI Personal assistant for ADHD minds
Yuck. These “helpful systems” (of all flavors) inevitably, whether it’s a day or six weeks, become just another nagging burden to become averse to.

And using examples like “cleaning the kitchen” is insulting. Not everyone with ADHD is a low-functioning sub-normal…

I doubt the author of this has ADHD.

audiometry··on Viagra improves brain blood flow and could help to prevent dementia
Would cialis likely have the same benefits?
audiometry··on The free soloist who fell to earth
This long form writing style where the author has to inject his own story as a secondary/support narrative gets really tedious. You could edit all of it out and the story would be sustained.
audiometry··on Japan Has Millions of Empty Houses. Want to Buy One for $25,000?
This story appears almost annually in the NYTimes I feel. Or at least it appears on HN annually, cited from some large media. I wonder why by this point I’d think everyone has heard the standard rebuttals/clarifications.
audiometry··on James Niehues Ski Map Artist
Yes. And oh and it’s an online store except there are no prices. Just turns into a submission form to contact the artist. (At least for the originals.). Forget it.
audiometry··on Neuralink transported brain implants covered in pathogens, group alleges
How will you or anyone ever be able to know this… just because you cannot perceive it, you assume it cannot exist?
audiometry··on Fewer people are creating new podcasts these days
I wonder how they count this? I use overcast app. It automatically downloads episodes of anything I’m subscribed to. But I migh not listen to it. Or I might listen to five minutes and delete. What level of truth do these podcast stats catch?
audiometry··on Fewer people are creating new podcasts these days
He also has appeared twice on The Nine Club, a skateboarding podcast.
audiometry··on Ask HN: What would you learn if you would have three to six months free time?
Why do you specify that one in particular? There are so many there. Don’t know how to separate good from the bad.
audiometry··on Carvana, which bought my car for more than I paid new, has lost 98% of its value
>just begging for some kind of regulation.

Seems like the market has regulated them quite nicely indeed.

audiometry··on Zuckerberg’s empire collapses
I dislike him even without being fanned by the media. Totally organic dislike for him and his product and his privacy invasion.
audiometry··on Getting Out of a Rut
Go on a three week video game moratorium. Get on a regular sleep schedule that wakes you up earlier than normal. Make task todo lists. Make “intentions for the week” lists. Make the items small grains of sand sand. Tick them off as you finish some of them. It won’t be everything probably. Get yourself on a program of your choosing and it becomes a virtuous cycle.

Talk to someone too. Not commiserate, which isn’t helpful, but someone who could help or offer objective advice or just even understand you better after you say your piece.

audiometry··on Show HN: America – Road Trip Simulator
Is there a way to mute the weird static sound? I turned off the radio, but the static persists. When I turned on walkie-talkie, the static moved to the speaker of the my mic/speaker combo. Turning off walk-talkie just moved the static back to original speaker.
audiometry··on Show HN: Dead Acquire – Sell your pre-revenue or dead side-project
it's still dead, fifteen hours later.
audiometry··on The Quest for Fuel in World War II (1993)
Heh, the modern world would eat that much in about two months. 4? years compressed to 0.25 of a year? (basis ~90mn/day)
audiometry··on Why do some humans love chili peppers?
I like the taste of spicy food. But 8 hours later my guts are in misery. Any fixes? I asked my stomach/bowel doctor and he said he had the same problem. Knew of no solution.
audiometry··on Show HN: Subreddit Finder – find subreddits based on a topic
I would take the other side of that bet for whatever amount of money you’d like.
audiometry··on A little exercise each day improves muscles more than one big weekly workout
Small sample of weak (untrained) people moreover.
audiometry··on A little exercise each day improves muscles more than one big weekly workout
“Functional bodybuilding” what? Bodybuilding is explicitly not functional. It maximizes for appearance/size.
audiometry··on Write a note to your spouse every day
Yeah I agree. This is the core idea of IFS Internal Family Systems. Heard about it on Time Ferriss. A real life friend recommended it. I tried it and benefited from it.
audiometry··on The Identity of Kim Il Sung (1949) [pdf]
Or Unicode style references to the Chinese characters that compose those names?
audiometry··on Pretty maps in Python
the online site.... for address you can take lat/lon from open street map and put that instead of trying to pass it a postal address. eg 40.97315, -77.69783
audiometry··on Inverse Tesla Bet Is Among First Single-Stock ETFs to Hit US
mmmm leveraged short etfs. Total toxic waste even when you're directionally right about the underlying asset. Constantly rebalancing buying the highs and selling the lows. Only the issuer makes money on this crap.
audiometry··on Thoughts on the potato diet
Fish is high on satiety!? I can’t think of anything non-plant based that leaves me hungrier more quickly. Even something oily and tasty like a cod.
audiometry··on Who Blew Up Mare Island?
There is insufficient refinery capacity in the USA, so they’re running at very high utilization rates. Pushing these high temperature, high pressure upgrading units to the limit, so not surprising there are accidents. Also I’d say every year there are refinery unit fires and blow ups. (One of the sources of current refinery capacity limitation is that a refinery on the east coast irreparably blew up a couple years ago)

Not saying that Russians aren’t blowing up our infrastructure. But I am saying the baseline accident rate is definitely not zero.

audiometry··on The L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputy-Gang Crisis
Listening to interviews with hardcore gang members, a common thread they mention is how dangerous and powerful these cop gangs are. Especially in the horrific LA County Jail system.

I don't know how you eliminate this culture from the cops other than mass firings and massive turnover of their entire workforce. That'll never happen.

Really gross situation and I feel bad for all the people victimized as a result of it.

audiometry··on Pittsburgh Toilet
Yuck. Me too. 1950's era ranch house, eastern suburb of Pittsburgh. Scary accurate description of walless toilet, giant laundry sink, etc. Vile. I despise American-typical bathrooms. linoleum, no floor drains, toilet cramped next to everything else in the bathroom. single toilet shared by entire family. blech. really gross.
audiometry··on Ask HN: What game do you wish existed?
Came here to say M.U.L.E. I always regretted not having a chance to ever play a four-human match. Seems like all the MULE reboots are/were stillborn. I thought the gui for the auction process was quite clever.
audiometry··on The great junk transfer is coming
Yeah I “de-thatched” my parents basement by filling up an enormous dumpster of shit. Literally things like “oh here are 9 CRT monitors that will never be used” etc. objectively it improved the basement and usability at zero opportunity cost. But it didn’t make them happier at all. My conclusion was better to let them do as they wish. I fortunately don’t have to live amidst the debris. (The basement has since then swelled to full capacity and spilled into two disgusting permanent tents outside).
