anonymouswacker··on Meta Bans Accounts Tracking Private Jets for Zuckerberg, Musk
Tracking for thee but not for me
anonymouswacker··on X becomes No. 1 app on US App Store
Yes, it’s either their lies or US government’s lies, or the industries and other billionaires that own the governments.
anonymouswacker··on Wayfair CEO tells employees to 'work longer hours' in year-end email
I was head-hunted a while back from Wayfair, and I felt that it was too good to be true: 1. high pay for remote work, 2. small teams, and 3. working on interesting tech (I think it was an AI furniture preview, like Amazon has). I ultimately decided against Wayfair because I had the feeling that helping a company sell predominately low-quality Chinese furniture to unassuming Americans would further enlarge the void in my soul, and I would be working far too much. Perhaps for a year or two, it would have been a dream come true, if I didn't want to have a life outside of work...
anonymouswacker··on Infowars and Goop sell the same exact pseudoscientific "wellness" products
Clickbait.

I have taken a lot of these in the past, and the label "pseudoscientific" is unwarranted. The "writer" cherrypicks and generalizes data to discount it, but if you want to understand the mechanism of, say, Ashwagandha, you probably should spend a few hours reading research and meta-analyses and not spending 10 minutes on Google to decide if it's "good" or "pseudoscience".

Should these companies not be allowed to advertise and distribute products that might help some and might hurt others? Should tech writers write health articles when they don't know what they're talking about?

anonymouswacker··on Is This How Amazon Ends?
Amazon has a 30 day return policy.

Temu has a 90 day return policy.

And Temu is generally cheaper.

anonymouswacker··on Shitflation, shrinkflation, inflation database
Government lies, aka statistics, conveniently ignore the cost of high quality items when doing averages. If you are buying eggs as a health conscious person, you know not to buy $1/dozen eggs any more because industry producers have made them low cost by reducing quality, feeding chickens soy and the cheapest excuse for food. The pastured ones are 5-10x the cost and the quality is night and day. US government conveniently views these things as staples, but they are not.
anonymouswacker··on A mineral produced by plate tectonics has a global cooling effect, study finds
But you will be happy once you're sufficiently medicated via the patented delivery mechanism of antidepressant pharmaceuticals in industrial agriculture... :)
anonymouswacker··on Covid patients breathe out large amounts of virus early on
Sadly, he'll lower risk of one thing and increase risks of another thing -- most likely, cancer.
anonymouswacker··on Major government tech contractors use vendor-lock to drive revenue: study
The US Department of Veterans Affairs is spending a lot more than that to switch from their in-house healthcare system to Cerner. It is not going well.
anonymouswacker··on We’re now finding out the damaging results of the mandated return to the office
How dare they breathe the air and spread their highly transmissible virus, like has happened for eons! Then again, why would you choose to breathe in their sickness? Were you not wearing 3 masks and keeping 3 meters distance? Did they make you come to work? Call the tribunal, we must get to the bottom of this, as soon as we've uncovered what causes rectal itch from the office chairs!
anonymouswacker··on Spotify is first music streaming service to surpass 200M paid subscribers
Make that 199,999,999 paid subscribers, as I am leaving Spotify, and completely ditching the eternal subscription models. Who's with me? Can we get a post now about setting up Lidarr and making your own Plexamp server for family and friends?
anonymouswacker··on Google to reduce workforce by 12k
It's a shame that Google is so good at hiring top talent, and even better at under utilizing them. The company had a hypomanic vision of greatness by throwing everything to see what stuck, and still can't get a new idea that is profitable besides marketing & advertising due to their virtual monopoly. I'm very curious what the breakdown of positions will be. This is a failure of leadership and Sundar should resign.
anonymouswacker··on Less gym time, same results: Why ‘lowering’ weights is all you need to do
Reminds me of the Blood Flow Restriction / Kaatsu method [0], which I've added in my own routine and had great results with lower weights and less pain. I regularly do BFR negatives and see great results, given I spend very little time in the gym.

anonymouswacker··on Facebook owner Meta expected to announce major job losses
Lucky. I am the same way, stable job, high pay, and very rewarding, although I think if I were to be honest, and know my own worth, I'd know I was being short-changed both in my pay and fulfillment, versus working for myself. But to each their own...
anonymouswacker··on NightWare helps disrupt nightmares for those with PTSD
Have you tried seeing a psychoanalyst, or otherwise delving into the meaning of dreams/nightmares? "What you resist persists."
anonymouswacker··on Facebook owner Meta expected to announce major job losses
These are the constraints in employment: high compensation, fulfillment, or stability. You can pick one, maybe two. If you want a meaningful and stable job, choose to work in a stable industry (such as Federal Government), and forego the high compensation.

Follow your passion and discover your personal Ikigai. Save money for the rainy days and times of uncertainty.

anonymouswacker··on A message from Twilio CEO Jeff Lawson: 11% workforce cut
Good point. Tapping into our strategic oil reserves is helping a little bit. Of course that, in a way, is a long-term price hike (when/if we ever replenish them). It's like taking out a loan.
anonymouswacker··on A message from Twilio CEO Jeff Lawson: 11% workforce cut
It's comical if you're the court jester, but to most of us peasants, this is horrible. Our worst fears are coming true. The system is failing, but it's too big to fail.
anonymouswacker··on One year on, El Salvador’s Bitcoin experiment has proven a failure
The "space" for a cryptocurrency is a Venn Diagram solely occupied by one circle: Bitcoin. We're seeing a culling of these shitcoin also-rans, which took the money from the late-coming naive while enriching the early wave of speculators, like any other common pyramid scheme.
anonymouswacker··on Leaked TikTok docs show effort to downplay CCP association
TikTok is a national security threat. It’s more than just hubris.
anonymouswacker··on Congress' push to regulate Big Tech is fizzling out
^ This person gets it. The "overton window" in American politics is narrow enough that we essentially have a de facto uniparty, that agrees on everything except what matters. About 40% of the country is Independent but we pretend that either of these parties represent us. Then we fight about which party is worse. I can't see any other way that this could have happened after the introduction of fiat currency and endless war budgets financed by fiat. Eisenhower was right about the Military Industrial Complex.
anonymouswacker··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
More work needs to be done, but this is a start.
anonymouswacker··on Ask HN: How worried are you about the upcoming recession?
The amount of death and destruction that the recession/depression is expected to cause to certain parts of the third world is tantamount to genocide. For those of us in the "laptop class", sure, we will be impacted adversely (and especially those who didn't plan for it, despite all of the red flags in the past 10 years), but it's hardly the same thing. I should be fine, as I have a comfortable, government job, but I fear for many of my friends who already were living paycheck-to-paycheck and will be like deer in the headlights once their jobs are impacted.
anonymouswacker··on Not a single car was sold in Shanghai last month
Like most things made in China, COVID-19 was poorly engineered, just like their ham-fisted approach to combating it. Something about totalitarian regimes causes a race to the bottom in human rights, arts, and sciences.
anonymouswacker··on Not a single car was sold in Shanghai last month
Presumably this will be used to disguise the ensuing mass starvation as Covid deaths.
anonymouswacker··on Ashton Kutcher’s non-profit, Thorn, supports EU plans for CSAM scanning
The best way to "detect" would be to, obviously, read it. So yes, this is surveillance, and just because you have good intentions doesn't mean you're not wrong.
anonymouswacker··on Ask HN: Do you plan to move to a lower COL area/country?
Yes. Colorado to Texas. And looking into Latin America next.
anonymouswacker··on 5-min breathing workout lowers blood pressure as much as exercise, drugs (2021)
That TLDR should be on every so-called physician's office, especially in America. Actual healthcare is your own duty. Most physicians are there for medicine/testing, which are both for-profit, and they are not incentivized to keep you in optimal health. In fact, they make a little bit more money if all of their clients are not too healthy... which is why so many doctors are moral injured from hospitals putting profits ahead of health when they realize they act as prescription and diagnosis drones for so many of their patients. It's better to call US "healthcare system" the "disease maintenance industry", as once you combine the "health" lobby with the "food" lobby, you see they work synergistically to keep consumers at sub-optimal health, and maximum profitability for all the leeches involved. Disgusting.
anonymouswacker··on Air-purifying headphones with active noise cancelling
There is a large, whiny portion of HN who were so severely injured by the COVID-19 fear porn that they uncritically consumed that they see viruses in their sleep still, two years later. It’s quite sad.
anonymouswacker··on What doctors wish patients knew about long Covid
I didn't sign up to be a lab rat, and it was a 3 day head cold when I caught Omicron on NYE. But I also paid close attention to the independent research and followed the advice of my doctors to improve my health (as measured by Vitamin D in this case).
