anon808··on A Former Tesla Staffer Became an Internet Millionaire in His Spare Time
Sounds more like I'm challenging your values . . . how can you not blame agents (people) for acting to further something you don't like? Those people have a choice, and they're choosing to further something you don't like, how is it not logical to blame the people for making that choice?

What you're saying is what's usually said about animals, "don't blame the bear for eating you if it's hungry and you're there". Only difference is that animals are pure instinct, whereas people aren't.

"don't hate the player, hate the game."

Why can't I hate both? That's how values work, I don't value his methods, and I don't value the person that chooses the methods I don't value.

Why do you think women (as a gender) are more emotional?

Or maybe they would've removed it, and until they did left it uncovered. Neither of us know what they would've done.

Not sure what China or France doing things has to do with how we do things in the US.

anon808··on SeatGeek Raises $62M
(Reuters) - The world's largest concert promoter, Live Nation Inc, plans to buy Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc for about $400 million in stock, aiming to create a company with dominant holdings in concert promotion and ticket sales.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2009/02/10/us-ticketmaster-li...

2.5b enterprise value inlcuding debt. not 2.5b equity.

anon808··on SeatGeek Raises $62M
seatgeek has an amazing ui, maybe the best ui for finding tickets. That alone is very valuable. The problem is that with this round total raised is $100M. VC's expect to double or triple their money, as par. That sets a simplified expected exit valuation of $300M for this to be a success. Ticketmaster was last sold for $400MM in 2009. The bar for success is now extremely high. Anything below the high expectations generally means that this fantastic product will be considered a failure and most likely sold for scrap. What a horrible situation, why create these artificial expectations?

What are the specific acts that people of faith were being forced to perform or approve of that contradict their faith?
anon808··on [dead]
Unless you believe in an after-life or that God protects you.
anon808··on [dead]
yes, there are people that want to the right to not serve gay people at chik-fil-a.

Substitute the word 'same-sex' with 'black' in that famous example you mention and it should become obvious why laws like that are needed (and were needed 50 years ago).

anon808··on [dead]
Or how about the most obvious one, killing ie. wars. Conventional American Christianity and the military are very closely tied; how that disconnect is ignored is beyond me.
anon808··on We are under attack
That's a fair response to that case.

Still curious about this quote: “We don’t do anything to thwart the content restrictions in China or other countries,” said Matthew Prince, chief executive of CloudFlare. “We’re a tech company and we comply with the law.”"

So if Lantern were a customer, would the outcome still have been the same?

anon808··on The Kleiner Perkins Lawsuit, and Rethinking the Confidence-Driven Workplace
Personally, I think it's ego. Most meetings I've been in are just showcases of dick length. The best idea rarely, unfortunatley, wins the day. And it's getting worse. Venture Captial is a hits/deal driven endeavor. The more hits one gets the bigger asshole they usually become. And when youre in a room of 'hit'-makers, well there's very little room for different ideas. Its nothing new, history is full of examples. Not everyone is like this of course, but a lot are, and more are becoming. Just part of the natural cycle.

On a somewhat related not, it helps to remeber the 'con' in 'con man' refers to the word 'confidence'. Confidence is not necessarily a good personal value.

anon808··on FBI put Anonymous 'hacktivist' Jeremy Hammond on terrorism watchlist
Terrorism: the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.

I'm pretty certain American revolutionaries used violence and intimidation against British soldiers and British property in the pursuit of political aims.

Do you disagree?

anon808··on A new team at Reddit
Daly City is 9.7 miles from the reddit office, for all practical purposes it sounds like Yishan wanted to just move offices in the same city; the Daly City part doesn't seem like it's important. Or am I missing something?
anon808··on Firebase is Joining Google
Congrats on achieving your goal, it's always a good thing when people get to where they want to go. I'm not trying to be a dick with this: when you say "Firebase is here to stay" you have to be sensitive to history which shows that might not be an honest statement; you can't guarantee that if you no longer own Firebase. I think everyone appreciates your goal will be to keep Firebase strong and growing, but its future is not entirely in your hands.
anon808··on Yahoo Nears Investment in Snapchat
If you have expenses and no revenue, by definition there's no earnings.
anon808··on Yahoo Nears Investment in Snapchat
Revenue!? Usually owners realize value by getting a dividend from earnings. Can't believe we're back at this point, again.
anon808··on Reddit’s crappy ultimatum to remote workers and offices
assuming the details are true, I cant find any good reason for doing something so heavy handed and corporate. It's the number of people involved (approx half the employees) that makes this an asshole move.

Nice click-baity title for self promoting. This post, product, and the fact that it's on the front page drips with cheese.
anon808··on Peter Thiel: Competition is for losers
The need for profit is a value (it determines sustainability). But it doesn't have to be the primary value. You get to pick that.
anon808··on Peter Thiel: Competition is for losers
Maybe you could say that google has a monopoly on high quality/relevant search results?
anon808··on Peter Thiel: Competition is for losers
I think the problem is that there are a lot of practicing capitalists that also happen to be massive assholes. It's not the capitalism that's the problem, it's the asshole part.
anon808··on Peter Thiel: Competition is for losers
Exactly. A company can have a monopoly on product quality, or manufacturing efficiency, not necessarily a monopoly on a vague, conventional definition of an industry. Another example is in-n-out burger. They don't have a monopoly on hamburgers, but they do have a monopoly on their kind of hamburger (high quality/freshness, low price at scale).
