anon23432343··on Zen, a Arc-like open-source browser based on the Firefox engine
Okay I found it but its wanky at best. how do i show the topbar once its gone?

I get that this ia an alpha but yeah going back to arc feels much smoother

anon23432343··on Zen, a Arc-like open-source browser based on the Firefox engine
One thing almost all arc clones dont get right and I talked with other arc users about this is that arc when surfing has no ui besides the border no top bar not tabs you can hide everything if you want to.

I downloaded Zen and what do i see a top bar which I can not hide or at least I can not find how to do it.

anon23432343··on Passengers at EU Airports Not Allowed over 100ml of Liquids on Cabin Luggage
I have lived in hamburg too and went from there often and I have never found besides going to the toilet a way of getting water.

The bigger joke is that the vending machines in an international airport only accept euro and no credit cards.

Maybe this changed since I have moved from hamburg to Stockholm 2 years ago. But the hamburg airport compared to Arlanda is a joke.

anon23432343··on Passengers at EU Airports Not Allowed over 100ml of Liquids on Cabin Luggage
yes as has Arlanda for example. They now found a problem with them and now you even there from sept. 1 can not take more then 100ml
anon23432343··on Passengers at EU Airports Not Allowed over 100ml of Liquids on Cabin Luggage
- Once the EU had 100ml rules. - Then new scanners were installed. - Where new scanners then you could take more then 100ml. - Problems found in new scanners now everybody has to take 100ml (temp. solution).

Good luck at the Hamburg, Germany airport then :D

Why is this on top of HN?

Shameful self promotion into a cult?

anon23432343··on Continue will generate, refactor, and explain entire sections of code
I dont want to write in an extra window for code completion.

Maybe its just me but chatting in a separate window... whats the point ? I can just open a tab in a browser with chatgpt.

What I want is something that understand my code base and can give me tipps of wich functions to use or where to find stuff and so on. Thats what cost me time.

Understanding someone else code or my old code. That takes time.

Writing code tests is what takes away from my time.

Writing a bad version of bubble sort is not what I want.

anon23432343··on More product, fewer product managers
I had project were we hade not difference between po, pm and scrum master. No difference at all on what they did.
anon23432343··on More product, fewer product managers
On the other side I have worked with PM/POs who have no clue and the developers are just telling them: "Oh this is super complicated you would not understand" or "This will take a long time to implement" and its a small feature.

There must be a balance. There must be some basic understanding by the PM/POs. They cant be the person that barley can use a computer.

anon23432343··on Vision Pro will change photography
No it will not...

at least not in a grand way...

It will be used by a few for very niche.

I bet AI generated video in a few years will be more important then this...

anon23432343··on Spotify will reduce total headcount by approximately 17%
Apple is probably also fine tuning there music to there products.
anon23432343··on Spotify will reduce total headcount by approximately 17%
I have AirPods pro and the sony xm4. Even on bluetooth you can hear the difference. The sound stage is just bigger. The highs are more clear and the bass is more subtle.

I was once remaking some hiphop beats from there samples and you can hear the difference even more when you have a remade beat (its not 100% the same) you can hear what the compression has done to the sample.

anon23432343··on Spotify will reduce total headcount by approximately 17%
I played the same song from random services. They did not see the service nor the laptop. YouTube/Spotify/Apple/Tidal (We did not had access to more). YT usually was the worse followed by Spotify and then depending on the Genre either Tidal or apple won. All of them were in the highest settings.

Sony xm4 as headphones.

anon23432343··on Spotify will reduce total headcount by approximately 17%
Spotify itself is not sustainable and going for the podcast crowed...

I still think it was not a smart move...

Its like that blue haired streamer going from twitch to what ever the msft clone of it was.

Yes Spotify is super popular but I hear more and more people moving away from it to for example apple music or other services.

They don't focus on the core anymore that much.

For example they are super late on the lossless audio train.

Yes you can hear a difference from spotify and apple music. I tested it with all my colleagues in the office. You can clearly hear that apple music or tidal sounds better then the spotify versions.

anon23432343··on Spotify will reduce total headcount by approximately 17%
And lets people spread fake news and stupid theories.

Just because they are "interesting" they should not get a free promo.

anon23432343··on Spotify will reduce total headcount by approximately 17%
I want to see how they got the 200 million back and as they have to lay off 17% of there people it looks like a stupid decision in the end.
anon23432343··on Spotify will reduce total headcount by approximately 17%
You can listen to apple music even via web interface and it has an android app and works on android tv and android auto.

So pretty much everywhere.

anon23432343··on Spotify will reduce total headcount by approximately 17%
It was and still is a stupid decision to buy Joe Rogan. I don't get why people listen to him... He is not funny nor smart. It sometimes feels you get better value when watching morning tv shows...
anon23432343··on Is technology harming our brains?
What? This is the dumbest thing I have read on HN in a while.

Do you want me really to write down some books were you should not be relaxed?

anon23432343··on The worst thing about Jenkins is that it works (2019)
Jenkins works...

No it dosen't or maybe it does for java which I don't care about.

The ui looks like from the 90s.

Finding anything in bigger projects/companies is impossible... I have browser bookmarks to find anything.

The log view is annoying at best.

I have nothing good to say about jenkins, it feels like it is stuck in the 2000s and refuses to change.

anon23432343··on Is technology harming our brains?
Yes google is making me stupid if you ask me what the longest river in the world...

People are getting worse in these kind of trivia questions...

Because why should you even remember them?

If all the internet shuts down then the least of your problems are trivia questions...

anon23432343··on Is technology harming our brains?
The internet or modern technology is not only social media...

Its like saying a books are only cheesy romantic 5 penny books...

anon23432343··on Is technology harming our brains?
I hate this kind of blog posts...

Back in the days when people got easy access to books people were thinking that kids reading all day the newest novel would make them only want to live in a dream world...

The avg. human these days is way way smarter then 50 or 100 years ago...

People always fill there brains with junk... Even in ancient Rome they were drawing penises on walls...

Maybe the questions in schools an co. suck for the modern times? Maybe its an problem of the write of the article not a general problem?

anon23432343··on JavaScript: Double Bitwise Not (~~) (2010)
1) Add the year! This is ~~2010! Is this even still valid today? Is it really faster in 2023?

2) this "trick" has problems if you don't understand the caveats it has.

3) This kind of micro optimisation isn't usually were your code is slow. Any css shift will be more expensive then this.

4) IF you want to use this "trick" then make sure everybody who will need to read your code really understands what you are doing here. Dont be that smart pants coder were no body else then you can read your code! This does not make you a good programer!

Now you can run you legacy software also on Mac!

Which is funny because everybody I know that has worked with office on mac and windows says that the mac version is better...

anon23432343··on Linda Yaccarino: no single authentic user saw this content alongside IBM's ads
So your spec sucks...

If you have the requirements that in no case your ads should be shown with content that you don't like but it happens at least twice.

You have a buggy mess of an unfinished software.

Oh wait that the game industry right now...

anon23432343··on HTML First
I'm not a big fan of JSX...

But that trend to put everything back into HTML were possible is also wrong...

Yeah this may work for static websites with some forms but I don't see Discord being build like that or any other bigger app.

Its like people want back the HTML version of Gmail. Its a nice experience when a big part of your screen flashes /s

What about i18n? or a10y? The examples of the form don't support any of that.

Have fun writing the right input every time without a well abstracted text input that does the hard and annoying stuff for you.

We switched to components for a reason but it seams like people forgot.

And yes not every blog or form needs to be writen in nuxt or some other big framework.
