This author has obviously never had to deal with ADHD...
If you replace work with going to the gym, discipline says "go to the gym" but regardless of discipline you cannot lift the 300 lb weight." Likewise, discipline can get me to sit at my desk, but it alone cannot make me do the work. It is not physically possible. There really does need to be something else. Motivation, incentive etc.
When my brother and I were younger we would sneak up to the door of each other's room and flip the light switch. It was mildly annoying. The kids of the future are going to go ballistic when a younger sibling flicks off their internet.
Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't the lidar on the google car made by Velodyne?
I know the radio head video used Velodyne's Lidar.
And the picture of the lidar that they show is a picture of the Velodyne HDL-64
Can anyone explain?
Just to echo the OP: Was biking with my brother and a friend in San Fran. The friend crashed when his tire got stuck in the trolley track. Then my brother crashed same way while looking back to see what happened.
Always wear a helmet; Especially in San Fran
I didn't expect this to be an article about education. But it seems to make a lot of sense. I have always felt that bad teachers recognize that there is a problem with their classroom management, however the solutions they come up with aren't great. I also have seen that most bad teachers have common problems. Which would imply that with a pretty standard set of instructions a bad teacher could transform into something better with just a bit of work.
Clearly after becoming a castaway Earhart learned to fight and became a ninja. She managed to get of the Island, and when she returned she became a bad-ass vigilante. She didn't tell anyone she came back because that would have made it more likely that her secret identity would be discovered.
Reading the article I could only think of the past failures with eugenics, like Nazi Germany, or even some stuff that happened in the US. I think we should be wary of the consequences.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me
What was the point of this hack? Yay they hacked Disney in Israel... They're just hacking random websites that are hosted in Israel. They have minorly inconveinced random Israeli citizens, shouldn't they have gone after the government?
Also... Time for HN to debate the Israeli/Palestinian conflict(?)
A lot easier just using a touch screen but its starting to feel tedious. Also reading the comments about the game taking 4 hrs... maybe I'll just quit before I waste too much time.
It would be more interesting to also see the stats about IM's between two people. Also does their study account for all the teenage girls that post that they are in a relationship with their best (girl) friend?
looks really cool, hope that it doesnt turn into the "anonymous confessions fb pages" where people submit posts through a google survey thing, and the get reposted by the admin. those are all fake...
I always find that political discussion that take place between me and random strangers in the comment sections on websites are always filled with trolls or crazy people. Neither of which I want to waste my time on.
This is just odd. I haven't seen any of his other stuff and when I read this I thought he was against teaching kids how to program. From comments in this thread I see why the post is critiquing the reasoning and motives for teaching kids to program.
I think that overall I think that his post hurts the movement to teach programming, and doesn't really help to clarify or change the reasons for why programming should be taught in school.
Additionally the movement to teach programming before college is making headway (remember whats happening in Chicago?), which is a good thing, and it shouldn't be demonized just because one thinks the motive is bad. Try to influence it positively instead of sending it backwards.
Also addressing the "programming isn't for everyone" argument I had to suffer through all the common general studies classes so the argument that programming isn't for everyone is bs, because English and History aren't for me, but I still had to learn it.
I think they are getting ahead of themselves, especially with drones, and autonomous cars. Also that company "personal" that they list, I looked at the site and they run an auto-fill app for online "personal info" forms. Chrome already does that... doesn't it? I liked their "Faraday Zones" I thought that was a cool concept. Will it happen, I don't know.
funny how this article came back today, I'm visiting my grandma, she has an ipad as her computer (first successful adoption of a computer for her btw, she previously had bought 2 computers and didn't take to either one) and I'm looking at her internet speeds and I can't deal with it. She is paying $28 for 3 mbps (max) speeds. It's dsl from at&t. I ran a speed test and she only gets about .5 mbps. I get about 300mbps(when plugged into ethernet) when I'm at school...
