amaks··on Microsoft CEO says women need not ask for raise, should trust system
Quartz: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, here’s the real definition of karma. http://google.com/newsstand/s/CBIwh9iU1ho
amaks··on EC2 Maintenance Update II
That's not true. Hardware where VMs are hosted requires repairs from time to time, so VMs do require migration.
amaks··on EC2 Maintenance Update II
No live migration huh?
amaks··on Microsoft Announces Windows 10
Windows 8.1 was 9. Or not?
amaks··on Microsoft Announces Windows 10
No, that's reserved for the future versions.
amaks··on Windows 10 is the official name for Microsoft's next version of Windows
Or is it Windows X?
amaks··on Microsoft Prediction Lab
Interesting. What's also interesting is that they allow signing in with the Google+ accounts.
amaks··on Microsoft to Close Microsoft Research Lab in Silicon Valley
Singularity has evolved into Midori project but to the latest rumor it was cancelled and the team disbanded.
amaks··on Designing from iPhone 5 to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ (More than I bargained for)
Talk about fragmentation.
amaks··on Your Mouse is a Database (2012)
Good article. Another interesting and fascinating article from Erik is "A co-Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks" (http://queue.acm.org/detail.cfm?id=1961297).
amaks··on Why Amazon Has No Profits and Why It Works
They do want the profit, they just keep reinvesting it to capex.
amaks··on The bttn – the simplest user interface
Looks like a joke.
amaks··on Inside Google’s Secret Drone-Delivery Program
This looks much better than a "traditional" helicopter style drone that Amazon is demonstrating. Interesting that Google picks this up as well, probably we are going to see lots of drones doing deliveries in 5 years.
amaks··on Autistics in the Silicon Valley
Deeply respect SAP (and others) for doing that. Hopefully this will catch up in other regions as well.
amaks··on The Worst API Ever Made?
A funny anecdote on the topic. When I worked in WinFS team, folks tried to add new flags in CreateFile API. Turns out, all 32 bits in dwFlagsAndAttributes were already taken, including the hidden usages inside the Win32 subsystem implementation.
amaks··on The brief history of Facebook apologizing
Define "free service". It might be free as a beer, but definitely not free as in speech.
amaks··on I/O Thoughts
"Having met a lot of Apple employees, I can’t say the same is true on the other side. They seem overly obsessed with Google, and are insanely sensitive should you bring the topic up, or deity of choice forbid, you actually develop on a Google platform."

It used to be exactly like that in Microsoft around 2010. Microsofties were extremely sensitive about non-WP devices other employees used. Hopefully things have changed there since then.

amaks··on Microsoft Paying Bloggers to Write about Internet Explorer
So unsurprising.
amaks··on The Google career path, Part 3: Performance reviews and promotions
But no one holds you at that job though, right?

amaks··on The Great Smartphone War
imagine all that money they spent on lawsuits to be spent on research and charity?
amaks··on What Killed Google+ And What Can Save It

amaks··on Steve Ballmer Now Owns More Microsoft Stock Than Bill Gates
Tweats from his iPhone? http://gizmodo.com/looks-like-steve-ballmers-first-tweets-ar...
amaks··on Amazon’s Glacier secret: BDXL?
Yes, but this doesn't explain 4-5 hours data access latency.
amaks··on Google+ Head Vic Gundotra Leaving Company
I personally use them a lot. For example, I share immediate family-related photos and posts with the Family circle, general family stuff with the Extended Family, some stuff with Friends, some with Colleagues. It's useful and powerful feature, but requires skills similar to the email Inbox organization which some people seem to find too hard.

AFAIK the real names policy is largely not in effect anymore, contrary to Facebook?
amaks··on F-35 C++ coding standard [pdf]
I'm surprised folks are down voting my comment. See http://rt.com/usa/f35-jet-software-delay-233/ for example. And as the one who programmed in C++ for 20 years I think I know what I'm talking about.
amaks··on F-35 C++ coding standard [pdf]
No wonder this thing doesn't fly (as expected). In all seriousness, perhaps the choice of the language has affected the software release dates?
