aconst··on Red: A programming language inspired by REBOL
I never liked other graphical git clients so I switch between CLI and gitk + git gui according to the task at hand.
aconst··on The hunt for Marie Curie's radioactive fingerprints in Paris
I live in Sceaux, bit south of Paris, where she lived some years. I once visited her house (now owned by someone who worked with one or more descendants of her) at some special occasion. One of the bedroom has a radiation sticker, and is officially controlled by the authorities, as some radiation were found. She obviously used to bring some work home :)

aconst··on Germany's 49-euro ticket resulted in significant shift from road to rail
Living since almost 15 years near Paris, in a few different places, regularly taking line B, C, D, M6, M7, M13, M1, some buses, as part of my regular commute, and have never encountered the shit you are talking about. I do know that some places are more problematic than others, by example M6 drivers regularly warn of pickpockets on saturdays (it's a touristic line, the only one I regularly take that have such announcements), sure not everything is perfect, but you are either biased (where did you live when you were in Paris?) or actually purposely actively trying to spread fud to insist like you are.
aconst··on Proposed rule would ban airlines from charging parents to sit with children
Well, I take such seats on long distance flights (France to Japan, with one stop), and we take the same last aisle seats before the toilets, on both planes (A380 and B787) and on both way. Overall we are satisfied and will do again :

- no one bothering you behind and you do not bother anyone when reclining the seat

- easy access to toilets AND to water/snacks at the back

Maybe it depends on airlines and on what other people eat before their flight :D

aconst··on Where should visual programming go?
Reminds me of this: http://mbeddr.com/

Not sure how much it is still being used at Itemis, at least is is still maintained.

aconst··on Russian cosmonaut sets record for most time in space – more than 878 days
I am pretty sure this guy came to my french island in 1998 or 1999 when I was last year of high school (if it was not him, it was another cosmonaut who had done a very long stay, but I am pretty sure it was him). He came to visit my high school to give a talk. A close classmate, who was half Russian and could speak well the language, translated for us. Kind of cool :D
aconst··on Show HN: Phrasing – learn every language, to any level
Sorry, I had not seen the english version it was the translation for. Both French and English version look awkward, they must be read in context ^^;
aconst··on Show HN: Phrasing – learn every language, to any level
Well, I think that it actually has a meaning once you read it in context. Taken out of context it makes a really awkward sentence and made me think of an AI halucination....
aconst··on Show HN: Phrasing – learn every language, to any level
In the landing page I could see this for French :

"Toujours produire" découvrira le métier de ta vie de la même façon que l'eau, aidée par la gravité, trouve le trou dans ton toit.

If you replace the first two words by "tu", and correct a minor mistake in the third one (add a "s" at the end), it has a meaning but otherwise not. I guess we cannot trust it to learn a language then.

aconst··on The SuperH-3, part 1: Introduction (2019)
It also powered Ricoh's RDC-i700 ( https://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/r_dc/rdc/i700/ )

Had fun almost 20 years ago with it during my internship at Ricoh : they were porting Linux on it (mostly as a research, the device was already nearing its EOL, but it had a touch screen with a stylus and 2 PCMCIA ports, which made it possible to put a WIFI card on it) and a made some small demonstration programs. Spent a lot of my time fighting to manage to make libs compile on it ^^;

aconst··on Choosing a Name for Your Computer (1990)
Same thing where I currently work at :D

It begun with skydiving location, as the guy in charge of PC administration is a diver, then he switched to pokemon as he figured out it was easier to take the next pokemon in the list.

Considering we are only about 25 people at work, we have a long way to go before running out of names...

aconst··on Japan wants 85% of men to take paternity leave but they’re too scared to take it
Agreed : first child at almost 26, second one almost ten years later, it was much easier physically for the first one !
aconst··on Where has all the Chartreuse gone?
Former Polytech'Grenoble (from the transition from ISTG) here :D
aconst··on Guide to Industrial Tourism in Japan
Another brother in need here ^^
aconst··on But, aren't you folks web2?
In France, you can often pick up free "newspaper" at train stations. One of them "20 minutes" begun, from time to time, to print a special "20mint" (think 20 min_t___) edition talking about web3 and cryptos. This, plus other advertisement, makes me afraid that it will increase the impression for people who are a bit less tech savvy that web2 is has-been and web3 the future...
aconst··on Five hours' sleep is tipping point for bad health
Not necessarily, there are pros and cons. My daughter got a lot of attention as she was a single child during 9 years (considering the pregnancy for my son, which removed some attention, I won't tell 9 years and 9 months :D) and now we have a lot of attention for my son. At the same time they cannot play as much as I played with my 14 month older brother, we are limited to what we can do with my son and that often doesn't match with what my daughter would like to do, while with a smaller time frame they would have more similar interest. At least, he's tall and adventurous enough already to be able to do nice roller coasters now :D I would be less tired if he was older and more independent. But actually in my case, there is also the fact my wife is studying to be a nurse, dedicating a lot of energy for it, so that I have to do more chores while I was already the one doing the most at home...
aconst··on Five hours' sleep is tipping point for bad health
I really understand why some people try to pack all their children in as few years as possible.

My son came almost 10 years after my daughter, he's still not yet 6 and still very demanding (while my daughter was objectively less, but still I barely slept during 2 or 3 years).

I'll die young ^^;

aconst··on Ante: A low-level functional language
Hello, I just wanted to point out that if I had not read comments here and had not looked for a second example linked to "Job", I would not have realized there were dots under the first example. You may want to make them more visible ^^;
aconst··on Haribo Goldbears, the world’s first gummy bears
Yup, the french one : "Haribo c'est beau la vie / pour les grands et les petits".
aconst··on Business Wargames: Early Complex Text Games
I played a similar game in class, in our case we put a lot on both R&D and marketing, selling expensive high quality and well marketed products. We "won" the game but our teacher was not happy about the outcome and thought he would have to make some changes to the simulation. Mind you, it was only one or two years before seeing everyone buying Apple laptops :D
aconst··on How Apple overcame its culture of secrecy to create AirPods Pro
WebKit which was forked from KHTML. Apple did work, of course, but they did not make that from scratch.

I love Apple, been a user since we had a MacPlus at home (then a Mac 2Vi, then a LC3, then PPC7600, then...) but let's not be overzealous.

aconst··on A 4-year-old can run errands alone and not just on reality TV
My 15 years old daughter was taking public transportation to go to her sport club 20 km away when she was in primary school. Needless to say she was the only child alone in the train. She has all latitude to go where she wants as long as she tells us if it's far. Some friends of her just can't get out of their home alone excepted to go to junior high school (maybe it is even their parents who bring them?), such a gap!
aconst··on SuperH
Worked on this while an intern in Ricoh in Japan : https://www.kernel.org/doc/ols/2004/ols2004v2-pages-239-250....

I was not the one who put Linux on it (it is not my name on the paper, but I was there around that time), but I had fun making a NetMeeting like demonstration application on it. Well, there was no sound but I could get 5fps video! :D

aconst··on Introducing chrome.scripting
The company I am working at develops a kind of overlay with helps that can be displayed on a given website. When we are lucky, our clients can add a script tag to their applications (and tweak their CSPs if they have), when we are not we have to rely on a web extension (think a kind of Tampermonkey but more specialized and with our branding and without a new tab every other day to tell it has been updated).

What do we use ?

- Blocking webRequest to change CSP to authorize our overlay script to execute

- executeScript: in most case, the script we execute is just inserting a script tag so it would still work in Manifest v3, but with webapps using Service Worker we have to resolve to download the scripts and execute then directly via executeScript, which will not be possible in v3.

Guess we'll have to bundle the overlay engine in the extension, which is much less flexible than what we had until now, but at least it's a possibility.

aconst··on Ask HN: Why are there no open source 2d printers?
A bit more than ten years ago I worked for Ricoh on an embedded software that was reporting the state of printer. Had a lot of fun trying to fold papers in different ways to try to trigger jams at different place of the printer to test that we were reporting jams accurately :)
aconst··on Show HN: Build a JS-only interactive product walk-through for your landing page
There are a few products on the market for it (I work for one, and no, it's not WalkMe).

There are free solutions too (e.g. http://bootstraptour.com/ )
