_zachs··on Don't donate canned goods to food banks (2017)
Don't buy this article at all. The only thing a cash donation can be stretched into is salary for the "non-profit workers".
_zachs··on Amazon workers launch protests on Prime Day
"I have to pick an item every eight seconds, or 332 per hour, for a 10-hour day"

No, no you dont

_zachs··on France has approved a digital services tax despite threats of retaliation by US
Amazon should and probably will just raise prices for French shoppers.
_zachs··on Rsync, GUIs, power, control, design, and decisions
I'm not sure. Don't want to be mean, and I'm sure building this was a great learning experience, but it seems more like and excuse to practice Electron than make rsync more usable.
_zachs··on Minnesota Will Pay Residents to Grow Bee-Friendly Lawns
As a human, this sounds great, but as a human with a deadly bee allergy, this doesn't sound great.
_zachs··on Superhuman
I've yet to read an article about Superhuman that doesn't look like it was written by an investor. Was given an invite, which is really just a ticket to purchase this for $30 a month after filling out a questionnaire. Obviously, I didn't go through with it. Not much of an invite if you ask me.
_zachs··on Ask HN: What do you do with your Raspberry Pi?
Would you mind going into your Plex server setup a bit? I tried using a Pi before but could barely get it to trasncode anything, and playback was miserable. Now I'm using a Kimsufi server, but I'd prefer to have a locally running server (that isn't my main PC) as my Plex media server
_zachs··on An entrepreneur wants to track the residents of a high-crime American community
Why is banning guns relevant?
_zachs··on Fedora 30
Thoughts on Fedora vs Arch? I've been using Arch on my Thinkpad for a while now, no major complaints, but forgetting to mount my boot before a `sudo pacman -Syu` (full system upgrade) always gets me.

P.S. I know that this is a non-issue...a simple alias would prevent future woes.

_zachs··on Removing Array Duplicates
The only thing this post did for me was entrench my thought that I'd rather write Rust over Go.

As ugly as Rust can be to look at, I'd rather solve this in 5 lines of Rust that make sense than read through any of those Go solutions.

_zachs··on Israel’s Beresheet Spacecraft Moon Landing Attempt Appears to End in Crash
Think you missed the point there Matto.
_zachs··on Scheduling in React
Thanks for the article! Well written and clearly explained Concurrent to me. Looking forward to trying out the API myself.
_zachs··on Reddit is raising a huge round near a $3B valuation
Planning on making my own Reddit that will have no future plans to be monetized and will focus on the actual users. Who's in?
_zachs··on Chezmoi: manage your dotfiles securely across multiple machines
I think this is pretty sweet, but if I were deciding between learning this and Ansible I would choose Ansible
_zachs··on There Is No Such Thing as Conscious Thought
This makes me want to pick Godel Escher Bach back up, anyone else?
_zachs··on Public and private class fields
Agreed completely! This article was the final push for me to start learning TS.

I'm really surprised something like this came out of Google.

_zachs··on China harvested organs from political prisoners, says tribunal
You have to give it to Trump for really sticking it to China in trade.
_zachs··on Tesla Third Quarter 2018 Update [pdf]
Just shows how fake all of the "expert analysis" is. It's so painfully obvious that all of the expectations of losses of 15 cents/share were just paid for by either the govt./big oil.
_zachs··on gRPC-Web is going GA
I'm still not sold on gRPC vs JSON/REST.

.proto offers me little over a decent development environment around JSON, and it seems to be pretty Google-specific.

I'm also wary of adopting standards that come out of Google.

_zachs··on Prehistoric art hints at lost Indian civilisation
I wonder if they saw any "Show bobs"
_zachs··on OpenBSD 6.4 released
Back in college our OS course used OpenBSD and I had a great time learning kernel development. Too bad I'm heavily invested in Arch right now!
_zachs··on Globally, Almost Four Out of Ten Music Consumers Are Pirates
What setup do you use for listening to vinyl? I've been thinking about purchasing the AT LP120
_zachs··on Coders Automating Their Own Job
There's a big difference between a Software Engineer and a Data Entry worker. While I (Software Engineer) can definitely automate certain parts of my job, I cannot automate taking an issue from the board, figuring out how to solve it, writing code to solve it, and getting it reviewed in a PR.
_zachs··on Nim 0.19
May I ask what the nature of the Rust apps you're porting is? I'm currently learning Rust and would be interested in knowing why you're moving away from it.
_zachs··on Chrome 69 will keep Google Cookies when you tell it to delete all cookies
Just want to chime in here, if you're ok deciding that Google engineers should be quitting their jobs, you should be fine deleting any Google services you're still a part of.
_zachs··on Facebook Is Letting Job Advertisers Target Only Men
If this headline was changed to "Facebook Is Letting Job Advertisers Target Only Women" this wouldn't be news and it would be hailed as the most progressive move of the century. With that, this isn't news, and definitely doesn't belong on the front page of Hacker News.
_zachs··on I worked in an Amazon warehouse. Bernie Sanders is right to target them
"Stop Bezos Act"...are you kidding me? If you support a bill dedicated to targeting a single company...please get out of government.
_zachs··on Unpatched routers being used to build vast proxy army, spy on networks
carpie.net has a great set of videos on using a Raspberry Pi as your own home network DHCP/DNS. I set it up relatively quickly and I definitely have a greater sense of control over my home network.
_zachs··on What is this Twitter army of Amazon drones cheerfully defending warehouse work?
I'm not an Amazon shill, look at my post history.

I don't understand all of this press. If you don't like your job working at Amazon, quit. If the conditions are terrible, release proof to the public, so other people don't even start working there.

Wash, rinse, repeat, and Amazon will either change the supposed working conditions or hopefully fail.

Why do we need so much press on both sides for such a non-issue?

_zachs··on Google finds evidence of attack linked to Iran state media
Is anyone surprised that Iranian state media is behind malicious activities?
