Viker··on Great Man-Made River
I think the water supply ran out..
Viker··on Great Man-Made River
Depends where in the country you are.. Parts of the coast in Libya is really harsh and desert. Mountain parts from Benghazi and eastward and Tripoli and westward. There are some small springs around also, water wells can be dug in various places.

But when the urbanization really started I think most water for the big cities came from salt water processing plants.

Viker··on Great Man-Made River
I grew up in Libya during the building of the GMMR.

I still remember the size of the pipes and the amount of trucks hauling them. One truck one pipe.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nubian_Sandstone_Aquifer_Sys...

The Korean companies (Daewoo mainly I think) building the project were massive. They would build a double lane road. One side would be used exclusively for one direction pipe supplies and machines. Eventually when the section completed they would just open the road as a public highway. This really helped Libya build up reach and infrastructure. The truck lines were endless... We are talking km long here...

Eventually when the water reached the coast, I remember I was in Benghazi then. It was good and drinkable from the spring ( this is usually not possible since the water is still salty from the sea) after about a week the sweet water stopped because they started mixing it with the old supply to conserve the desert supplies, the water amount in the desert was over estimated...

All in all Libya was a great country. My family moved to Europe and I remember how much miss information there was about Libya. Then 2012 happened...

Ama about the GMMR. I ll try to answer as best as I can and remember.

But from en engineering point of view, we are looking forward to the time when cheap Sobs and people of low intelligence just dissaper.

We want people to be in constant communication, and just understand what is right to do and not do anything wrong.... We are sick of people using software in ways other than intended...

Solving a problem by just removing the variable is not exactly a solution...

Viker··on Living Alone Can Be Deadly
Gladly when I moved to Scandinavia I was very interested in pickup and NLP. To my surprise, what I discovered is that lack of social "practice" makes people very susceptible to "sales tricks".

So what I found out is that most women in Scandinavia preached one thing, but had no problem throwing their principals out the gate just to get what they want. Wich in term point me to the conclusion that they have urges that the social system does not satisfy.

But here is the funny thing that makes Scandinavians truly unique. It is possible to have sex with someone, and have a great time, only for them to completely avoid you if they cross you randomly on the street.

Viker··on Living Alone Can Be Deadly
Yes if you look at Scandinavian societies in isolation, they are happy people. The type of happiness you can feel for every minute that you do not freeze to death.

If we look at Scandinavian societies in comparison to the rest of the world and taking in consideration things like family, social connections, friendships, and general person to person connections, then you end up with a sad sad story.

Especially for an outsider living in Scandinavia. Basically one observes a pack of humanoid-like snow people that have a compeletly different value system from the rest of the world. Weak social and family relations, no morals outside of what is legal and not, and the worst of all is that they have the feeling that they are better. A lot can be told about these people by looking at their past.

Yes, I do live here and I do believe that "When in Rome...", but this is not Rome, it's like more like a zoo with golden toilets and snow monkeys.

Viker··on Can't Unsee: Select the design that is most correct
Yes. Again all true. But as a product designer your job is usually to make the product in the most cost efficient way for the company, not the user. So implementing design in a way that is also part of the product strategy is good design!

The same way IKEA stores are designed to keep you furthest away from the exits. Designing that in a good way is much harder than simply designing a system where the user has to make educated guesses.

Viker··on What Happened to the 100000 Hour LED Bulbs?
That is true. It is not directly "planned obsolescence". But our whole economic capitalist system is based on the idea of consumption. That means that products by default do not need to last.
Viker··on Can't Unsee: Select the design that is most correct
Dark patterns are still patterns!

They key is consistency. Please leave your morals at the door.

Viker··on 'Fuck ethics. Money is everything' FB employees react to scandal on gossip app
Well yes. That is one of the pillars of capitalism. You can sell whatever you want as long as the description on the packages is "honest".

That is like eating in McDonnalds to support the workers there.

You mean you want to support the big media corporations that make good artists available to you...

Just making sure that you know what you are doing.

I actually have to agree with you. What we are observing here is a battle for the 1. Place on the IT data food chain.

It has never been a matter of respecting privacy. Just a matter of who owns Ur data. FACEBOOK vs. APPLE.

Viker··on A Matchmaker Who Flirts on Dating Apps for You (2017)
The same can be said about make up, hi heels, botox, and other kind of plastic surgery. It is a service to assist in the cover up of a 'perceived' flaw. Can that also be called deception, regardless of how permanent the solution is ?
Viker··on A Matchmaker Who Flirts on Dating Apps for You (2017)
Yes I can fully agree with you. If a person is clearly struggling with attracting the opposite Sex, then it is certain that persinalised and tailored help will be more benificial, but in the case with this survice, I see like a luxoroise tool to pay yourself out of some of the more mundaine tasks in the current sexual market.
Viker··on A Matchmaker Who Flirts on Dating Apps for You (2017)
Well recruiters are not expensive in the grand scheme of things. If your problem solving skills are so good that someone is willing to pay you enought you can tottaly afford an assistant or an agent.
Viker··on A Matchmaker Who Flirts on Dating Apps for You (2017)
That is true. But if you are successful enough to afford such a service that means that you are a well developed and successful personality that basically dones't have time to treat every woman like a magical princess.

Clients have needs and are willing to pay for the services required.

Rich people also have drivers. That doesn't mean they can't drive.

Viker··on A Matchmaker Who Flirts on Dating Apps for You (2017)
All these things do not matter if you have the cash to buy yourself out of these problems. Yes everyone "can" potentially learn to fix their cars and computers. But if they have jobs that pay better than the time it takes to do the job then that is straight up shitty investment of their time.

If someone earns so much money that they can pay 700 usd a month for this service, that basically means that they have figured life out and are successful and do not need to change.

People that make money understand that the better investment is to pay someone more competent to do the job.

Personality has also always been something the can be influenced by money. There is a reason why women would prefer rich "jerks" to poor nice guys.

Viker··on 5G: if you build it, we will fill it

Viker··on Does sex addiction really exist?
I don't think sex addiction is a thing... Sounds a bit like oxygen addiction.

What is more real is sexual desperation...

If we take the number of women vs men, that have sexual addiction, and we corollate it with sexual partner availability. We can clearly notice that sexual addiction is not a thing. Sexual desperation is a thing. The less sex a man gets the more he thinks he should be having it.

Because we live in a society where men think that they should be getting sex like a pornstar when in reality most are in the 80% group that barely gets any sex. At the same time, most women can have a sexual relationship at any time at practically no cost.

Viker··on What Happens When a Country Bans Spanking?
I have to disagree with you here and agree with the person above you. There is a major and distinct difference between using negative reinforce and child abuse.

Also the study concludes that countries where spanking is bad results into adults getting in less physical confrontations. But do they chose that based on better solutions or does it mean a population afraid of serious confrontations.
