Varloom··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android
If I wanted only apps signed by developers I'd use Playstore.
Varloom··on Qualcomm Wants to Buy Intel
Qualcomm main business is mobile phone chips and 5g modems.

Majority of it's revenue goes to Taiwan for TSMC as margins.

Having Intel fab, will cut the middle man, and revenue will skyrocket, all while no money leaves the USA.

Varloom··on Intel foundry business to make custom chip for Amazon, chipmaker's shares jump
Big move for Amazon
Varloom··on NVIDIA Transitions Fully Towards Open-Source Linux GPU Kernel Modules
They know CUDA monopoly won't last forever.
Varloom··on Google just updated its algorithm. The Internet will never be the same
I reduced my google search engine usage by 90%

Just Option+Space and get the answer with ChatGPT for MacOS.

No ads, no nonsense, just the answer.

Varloom··on Microsoft was blindsided by OpenAI's ouster of CEO Sam Altman
There goes their almost $13B investment down the drain.

Both masterminds of ChatGPT have left the company.

Feels like Nokia 2.0

Varloom··on Apple admits third-party app stores in Europe are inevitable
No, there will be 3rd party App stores (approved by EU) where developers can release their Apps.
Varloom··on Apple admits third-party app stores in Europe are inevitable
I'm pretty sure one of the first app stores we'll see is Meta App Store.

The deliberate delay in releasing the Threads app in the EU, without any clear reason, makes me believe that they intend to make it an exclusive offering of the Meta store.

Varloom··on Google to invest up to $2B in Anthropic
It's absolutely good, have you tried their Claude 2 AI?
Varloom··on Google to invest up to $2B in Anthropic
That means all the work they did on their own AI has failed. So they are buying someone else's AI.
Varloom··on Cortex X2: ARM aims high
Agreed, generic ARM cores are weak. The solution is to go custom like Apple did and soon Qualcomm with Oryon Cores.
Varloom··on Some Pirate Sites Received More Visitors After Being Blocked
Just use Yandex, it wild wild west over there.
Varloom··on Some Pirate Sites Received More Visitors After Being Blocked
With Encrypted Client Hello being rolled out (default on Firefox, optional on chrome/edge with Cloudflare DNS). ISPs can't technically block any website anymore.

They used to block DNS requests, then when secure DNS rolled out, they targeted SNI requests.

But with ECH there is nothing to block except the ip address, which is dynamic and doesn't even belong to the website if it was hosted on a CDN.

Varloom··on Google has sent internet into 'spiral of decline', claims DeepMind co-founder
Why I have never heard of perplexity.ai

Just tried it, so good and fast.

Varloom··on TSMC: Ecosystem for 2nm Chip Development Is Nearing Completion
Almost everyone is moving to N3 from N4 (not N5), the performance jump is not as impressive as the numbers which are based on N5->N3.
Varloom··on iPhone 12 withdrawn from French market for non-compliance with EU regulation
Do you honestly expect that they would admit it and face millions of lawsuits ?
Varloom··on iPhone 12 withdrawn from French market for non-compliance with EU regulation
Damn that's dangerous level of radiation, why this was only discovered recently?
Varloom··on Intel announces Arm investment, talks up RISC-V

Varloom··on Intel announces Arm investment, talks up RISC-V
Softbank are dumping their shares in ARM while at peak valuation, before RISC-V eats its market share (they saw it coming, that's why they are rushing to IPO before rise of RISC-V).

Most big ARM clients are dumping ARM for RISC-V.

Including, Qualcomm:

Google (Converting whole Android system to support RISC-V):

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/01/google-announces-off...

And Samsung :

When you want to invest look for the underdog, not a company that has it's market share ready to be eaten alive by RISC-V in the coming 5-10 years.

Varloom··on Apple to Remove Nostr Damus from App Store for Bitcoin Tipping Feature
By May 2024 every iPhone in EU will be allowed to install alternative app stores legally.

It's only a problem for the rest of the world.

Varloom··on Jim Keller on AI, RISC-V, Tenstorrent’s Move to Edge IP
This man knows exactly what he is talking about. He was responsible for designing the original AMD Athlon 64. He worked at apple to transition from Generic Samsung ARM SoC to their own Apple silicon which is the base for modern M1 Apple silicon. He worked for Intel (we'll see his work in Lunar Lake, Jim Keller's Royal Core Project). And most importantly he worked again at AMD and gave us Zen architecture.
Varloom··on macOS Internals
That’s super interesting.
Varloom··on Little Snitch Mini
+1 Glasswire is my Windows alternative as well.
Varloom··on Qualcomm CEO says he’s expecting Apple to use its own modems in iPhones in 2024
They won't manufacture something secondary such as a modem on cutting edge super expensive silicon.

Pretty sure I've read on Macrumors that they are developing their modem on TSMC 6nm.

Varloom··on A broad-spectrum synthetic antibiotic that does not evoke bacterial resistance
If it does not invoke bacterial resistance, its most likely less specific to the bacteria and can harm human cells.

(think bleach, kills bacteria and there is no resistance, but also damage regular human cells)

Varloom··on New Mac Mini
I can't use my M1 mini with non-retina monitor because of how blurry it is.

They stopped providing font anti-aliasing (default on Windows) few years ago in MacOS to make retina displays more relevant.

Varloom··on RISC-V Pushes into the Mainstream
Lets go !

After decades of open-source software, finally we have open-source CPU.

Varloom··on ThreeUK blocks access to encrypted provider Tutanota due to 'age restriction'
Even with secure DNS, the SNI part is passed as plain text for the ISP to intercept and block.
Varloom··on ThreeUK blocks access to encrypted provider Tutanota due to 'age restriction'
Nothing can stop SNI sniffing & blocking except DNS with encrypted client hello.

Which is taking forever to be standardized.
