TwoBit··on US says Saudi prince approved Khashoggi killing
What murders and homicides are you referring to?
TwoBit··on Fry's Electronics is closing all stores
I remember taking my computer into repair at some Chinese shop. When I came to pivk it up, all their floor demos were showing the pictures and animations I had collected.
TwoBit··on [dead]
Is something necessarily racist if it happens to negatively impact non-white races more? Seems like a 'causation != correlation' kind of thing.
TwoBit··on Clearing price for supplying power to Texas grid –$31.65
My personal definition of a libertarian has been: someone who read a capitalism economics textbook but skipped the chapter on externalities.
TwoBit··on Done Answering Questions Stack Overflow
In order to be an active admin for a site, you need to have a lot of free time for it. And it's exactly these mentally inept people who have that time. There needs to be a name for this paradigm.
TwoBit··on Fake Amazon reviews 'being sold in bulk' online
And that's taking advantage of another longstanding Amazon loophole.
TwoBit··on What ever happened to scandium bike frames? (2016)
Carbon dominates the higher end of bike frames so much that most people don't care about scandium-based frames. Is there scandium in my aluminum cranks, brakes, or stem?
TwoBit··on The Legendary Study That Embarrassed Wine Experts (2014)
They have. And modern violins in these studies scored better as I recall.
TwoBit··on Evidence that the FBI can hack into private Signal messages on a locked iPhone
So useless for a stolen cracked phone like this case?
TwoBit··on Evidence that the FBI can hack into private Signal messages on a locked iPhone
Does Signal not encrypt its DBs when not in use and upon shutdown?

Edit: it seems that Signal uses db protection but in a way that fails for a cracked phone like this (?): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26096778

TwoBit··on Evidence that the FBI can hack into private Signal messages on a locked iPhone
Seems like this is partially Signal's fault to me. Why doesn't Signal independently encrypt the message db when not in use? It's well known at this point that iPhone is easily cracked, and thus Signal provides no security for a stolen phone.

TwoBit··on Evidence that the FBI can hack into private Signal messages on a locked iPhone
How about if Signal encrypted all your stored communication when not in use and required a password (and 2FA) to decrypt it? Thus the app's security is ~independent of phone security, at least for forensic seizure analysis.
TwoBit··on Police playing music while being filmed, seemingly to trigger copyright filters
YouTube should provide a service to subtract copyrighted audio from posted content.
TwoBit··on The war on disinformation is a war on dissent
Half of reasons for citing distrust of the CDC are wrong or misleading. I don't think any current distrust is actually due to those reasons. They could have a perfect record and anti-maskers and QAnon would be just the same as now.
TwoBit··on The war on disinformation is a war on dissent
Lately we are discovering that the biggest flaw in our government design is the framers failed to account for political parties when creating the supposed balance of powers between government branches.
TwoBit··on The war on disinformation is a war on dissent
People don't believe or disbelieve science in general. They choose to disbelieve just the parts they wish weren't true. Climate deniers probably all believe e=mc².
TwoBit··on The war on disinformation is a war on dissent
Just because one side believes the other is spreading disinformation doesn't mean they are right. See 2020 election fraud for example.
TwoBit··on The war on disinformation is a war on dissent
You're right in general about quelling dissent, but this particular article is trash. I'm surprised it made it to the front page here.
TwoBit··on The World’s Fastest DES Cracker
Surely they meant to drop the high bit instead of the low bit... ?
TwoBit··on It Feels Like the Game Is Rigged
Poorly written Wikipedia page, but I fo see LTCM was co-founded by a Nobel prize winner in economics. Their overly risky strategy seems at odd with someone earning a Nobel prize.
TwoBit··on Rolex's Manufacturing Facilities (2015)
Given that mechanical watches are not bought for their ability to report time, how do you even say what it's worth? It's really a work of technical art.
TwoBit··on Apple Silicon M1 supports “billion of colors” a.k.a. HDR 10-bit output
Then they ran the test wrong. It's easy to construct 10 bit color images which are clearly discernable from 8 bit.
TwoBit··on Statement of SEC Regarding Recent Market Volatility
Yeah that sounds a lot like a story a sore loser would tell. It also sounds a lot like something the recently evicted President would say.
TwoBit··on Looking for More Debugger
No offense but I'm guessing your debugging needs aren't as complicated as some others' needs.
TwoBit··on Michael Bluejays Battery Guide
Nice but the page looks like it's old and somewhat stale.
TwoBit··on Tesla's new steering yoke isn't retro, it's a safety risk
"An experiment is worth a thousand opinions" - Wernher Von Braun

Until these people actually try this steering wheel they should shut up.

TwoBit··on LZ4 – Extremely fast compression
How does it compare to Kraken? It was fast enough that Sony recently built Kraken into the PS5 hardware.
TwoBit··on LZ4 – Extremely fast compression
OK but how does it compare to Kraken?
TwoBit··on Myopia treatment 'smart glasses' from Japan to be sold in Asia
Well it is, because the more you are on your computer, the less you are outside.
TwoBit··on Bluetooth Attack Can Steal a Tesla Model X in Minutes
Nobody would buy a stolen Tesla, but lots of people might buy stolen Tesla parts.
