Saphyel··on Show HN: Stop paying for Dropbox/Google Drive, use your own S3 bucket instead
S3 is costly and carries significant political baggage.

For a better alternative, run MinIO on a cloud provider of your choice, or stick with a secure option like Proton Drive.

Saphyel··on Hk, a new Git hook manager
My git pre-commits are usually calling other executables or other tools, so I'm not quite sure how much it matters how fast is the git pre-commit tool. Can we have a benchmark of a normal use case of how much time are we saving with this new tool?

or is this "Yet Another Rust Rewrite" (YARR)?

Saphyel··on Ask HN: What country would you like to relocate to and why?
I moved to Spain for healthy issues. It´s cheaper to buy healthy food and I can get enough sun/heat.

Of course other countries could be another option but I have only been 1 month

Saphyel··on Ask HN: Which RSS reader do you use?
Inoreader, it's free and works like a charm
Saphyel··on Ask HN: What do you look for in a work monitor?
I'm actually planning to buy one too. I agree with most of the comments about 120Hz refresh, But I disagree about 4k (not enough content) and this is more personal my last monitor was 32" and it was a huge pain to travel with and I don't have a mansion to be far away from the monitor... so I think I'm aiming this time for 24".

I hate monitor are so bloody expensive

Saphyel··on Show HN: Obsess Jobs – Apply to jobs in your sleep
Is this only for the US? Also can you apply to US remote from elsewhere?
Saphyel··on Lies we tell ourselves to keep using Golang (2022)
Golang it's a huge career mistake. You can comeback in 5 years to this message to confirm the obvious.
Saphyel··on One of the largest Godot projects is transitioning off of Godot
I think everyone is moving away from Godot since the scandal, so make sense
Saphyel··on Has the market spoken? Time to pick up Golang and Rust?
I see a lot of Rust projects in the market, a lot of projects done and integrated in other languages (pydantic, ruff, etc...)

From Go I only saw a promotion in Google ? now is finally abandoned?

Saphyel··on Ask HN: Who is hacking Internet Archive?
IA is hacking itself (or trying to look like)

They lost big cases so IA won't survive long anyway

Saphyel··on Show HN: Midday – Run your business smarter (open-source)
Well done! I'm curious why are you so dependant to Supabase ??
Saphyel··on Ask HN: Is Google deliberately breaking Firefox?
I only use Firefox, I haven't open Chrome in months... But I try to stay away from Google most of the time, so probably not the best.

And as some other people it's better Firefox on Android than the app. I don't have to deal with adds on Firefox, the official app always have 2 or 4 adds waiting for the next video

Saphyel··on Ask HN: What's your favorite Underrated Anime that no one talks about?
Hell's paradise and Made in abyss
Saphyel··on Ask HN: What fields or technologies are you excited about?
Web apps, that thing that Apple killed recently.
Saphyel··on Ask HN: What laptop are you using to daily drive Linux?
Slimbook works like a charm
Saphyel··on Ask HN: Who is feeling Depressed and Why? (Feb 2024)
M ex gf apparently cheated on me and then cheated with his new bf with me
Saphyel··on Python Packaging, One Year Later: A Look Back at 2023 in Python Packaging
blows my mind that in 2023 PIP still exists as it is, having in other languages good examples like: npm, composer, maver, cargo, yarn, etc.. which works like a charm since several years and most of the community are happy with them (No one is happy with PIP let's be honest)
Saphyel··on Why Golang instead of Rust to develop the Krater desktop app
I can't wait for the next entry of their blog: "Why we moved from golang to Rust"
Saphyel··on Why people in Google hate Go?
Go was created for an internal promotion of a guy in Google, he already got the promotion I believe, so there's no real use case to keep using it.
Saphyel··on We Have to Talk About Flask
Technically wrong. Parallels only develops Flask and they want to keep Flask as minimal as possible, they don't even want to move away from the legacy optparse for Click, so this kind of "minimal work".

Key packages are developed by the community so lack of understanding or no cooperation with Parallels it's not really a Flask issue.

Unfortunately the only solutions for this are:

* Join Parallels and try to change things.

* Use different package, there's plenty web frameworks.

* Understand better semver, and python should try to promote this, or move away from semver to calendar releases like Ubuntu/Jetbrains

Saphyel··on Americans Must Earn $114,000 a Year to Afford a Typical Home
Which part of America?? in Peru? el savador? Canada? Haiti ? Nevada?
Saphyel··on Ask HN: Where to Host a FastAPI App
If you want to try new options I highly recommend:

* encore.dev

* koyeb.com

They are not as popular as other services but they provide a good service very cheap/free.

I have no complains so far for my 4 pet projects (I use litestar with docker for all my projects)

Saphyel··on We Have to Talk About Flask
So this is yet another post about how terrible is the python ecosystem with the versions.

The author of the post seems unfamiliar with the meaning of a major release.

maxcountryman (author of flask-login) doesn't know how to pin down versions.

I'm not a big fan of Flask to be honest but this doesn't seem a problem from them. I'd rather blame maxcountryman , the author of the post or pip for this case

Saphyel··on Ask HN: Show me your half baked project
I did it several years ago but it's a site to find your missing achievements in steam.

You search your profile by name, then you select the game and you can see all the achievements and for the missing ones there's a link to youtube for it.

https://master-of-games.onrender.com

Saphyel··on Ask HN: Show me your half baked project
Did you try letterboxd.com?
Saphyel··on Ask HN: Which is the oldest software alive still in 0.x, used by many?
FastAPI lol
Saphyel··on US Government may require open source software to use memory safe languages
What languages are memory safe? or are they avoiding to say Rust?
Saphyel··on Baldurs Gate 3 comes out on Mac tomorrow. I will not play it
I'm not sure about the problem? You are free to play or not the game, no one forces you to buy it or play it, it's your time and money.

Gaming On Mac should be illegal, using mac should be illegal as well.

Saphyel··on Ask HN: Do I need AWS? Or am I thinking this wrong?
This is so wrong.

Cloud is for DECLARE the setup, if you don't care or you don't know then avoid cloud.

On-premise you can find always dodgy scripts with no copy, no backups, some people praying everyday if the service restart he'll quit, or something working but you don't know why and the worst one, everyone afraid of update anything
