Passthepeas··on Spotify is removing Neil Young’s music after falling out over Joe Rogan
Multiple states are currently making teaching about racism illegal based on whether or not parents subjectively feel "uncomfortable", and half of the country is trying to perform a fascist coup but you want to boil it down to "outrage and attention"?

This is the most hilariously sheltered and out of touch comment I have ever read in half a decade of reading HN

Passthepeas··on It’s not still the early days of blockchain
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nayib_Bukele#Presidential_appr... I keep hearing this line, and yet Bukele's approval rating is over 80%
Passthepeas··on Bitcoin Failed in El Salvador. The President Says the Answer Is More Bitcoin
I'm sad to hear that, I have been optimistic about this helping people actually. Good news is that there are other options besides Chivo, so hopefully conditions improve as the market develops.
Passthepeas··on Bitcoin Failed in El Salvador. The President Says the Answer Is More Bitcoin
So the key reason for btc adoption in El Salvador is cheaper remittance payments, I find it odd that an article that sets out to criticize btc in El Salvador doesn't even mention the original intended use case.
Passthepeas··on I am often asked if I will “return to cryptocurrency”
People should read "The Internet of Money" by Andreas Antonopolous, in it he describes how much of the criticisms levied against crypto are similar to criticism levied against the internet in the early days. Many of the internets early adopters were actual criminals, and its detractors talked about how it "couldn't scale", was bad for the environment, etc. What sort erroneous conclusion might you have drawn during the tech bubble at the turn of the century? Similar criticism were pushed on the automobile, the airplane, and even electricity.

It might not seem like now, but we are still in the early days of crpytocurrency, being this overly hung up on the current state of things is missing the forest for the trees.

Passthepeas··on Cheating in FPS by using a second computer to move mouse
QC doesn't have /votekick though
Passthepeas··on Zero Knowledge
Monero is referred to as a zkp coin in this article; but afaik it is cryptonote based, using a combination of mixing and stealth-addresses and doesn't actually use zero-knowledge proofs. Did that change at some point or was this said in error?

I think this is still a fantastic article as an introduction to the concept, I hope it is not removed.

Passthepeas··on Crypto scammers piggybacking Trump’s Twitter, cloning Medium, stealing crypto
Vast majority of crypto currency mining is done with excess green energy that would otherwise be rejected by the grid and wasted, as high as 78% by some estimates. https://medium.com/value-of-bitcoin/bitcoins-energy-consumpt...
Passthepeas··on Crypto scammers piggybacking Trump’s Twitter, cloning Medium, stealing crypto
completely false, privacy coins command billions of dollars in market cap, Monero alone is currently worth 2.2 billion and will likely continue to grow.
Passthepeas··on Blueberry Compound May Provide New Inflammatory Bowel Disease Therapy
I would look into paleo diets like the autoimmune protocol(AIP), the idea behind them is that removing certain foods is a lot more important than adding them for that sort of condition.

Currently use a paleo/ketogenic diet to manage IBS, and fortunately blueberries (and other low sugar fruits) can fit into this sort of approach.

Passthepeas··on Wildlife in ‘catastrophic decline’ due to human destruction, scientists warn

Passthepeas··on I won’t buy ebooks anymore
or if we're really lucky, it will be represented on a blockchain that doesn't have a massive pre-mine and actually values immutability.
Passthepeas··on Jack Dorsey is giving Andrew Yang $5M to build the case for a basic income
so by that logic, if we took money away from people the rent would go down? The answer is yes, it probably would, but not enough to negate the effect of the wealth change. With a UBI of $1,000 I would expect rent might go up in some areas by maybe up to a few hundred but this idea that rent would somehow skyrocket to the point that it would nullify any benefit seems a ridiculous assertion to me.
Passthepeas··on Brave Isn't Bad
Not only that, but the token they use was distributed via ICO, meaning it is highly centralized and potentially will be subject to securities legislation in the future. Completely ignores the ethos crypto currencies started with.
Passthepeas··on The Calorie Paradox of Raw Veganism (1999)
personally I would classify this as malpractice. The inflammatory effect of polyunsaturated oils is common knowledge at this point.
Passthepeas··on We Need Chrome No More
It happens both on my Mac Book Pro and my Windows 10 desktop. I don't have the problem as much with pre uploaded videos but with live streaming sites like twitch.
Passthepeas··on We Need Chrome No More
In my experience I can't stream video on firefox without the video freezing within the first 5 minutes, and it feels clunky even with non video webpages. I really hate google the company, and I'd love to stop using their software, but so far I have yet to see a browser that even comes close to chrome.
Passthepeas··on Why do Americans claim to be more religious than they are?
While I am an atheist myself, I grew up going to a Unitarian church. They held food drives and other charity events, and was a social staple of our community. Religion can give a person's life structure, give them a social support network they might not have otherwise. I have met religious people that quite simply could not get out of bed without it, and as long as they don't become too dogmatic I see no issue with it.

What many atheists seem to miss is this, god doesn't need to be real for religion to have massive benefits for an individual. I will never fault anyone for believing, nor will I fault anyone for playing up their level of belief to be able to participate. I will not overlook the excesses and corruption of large scale organized religions, but on a smaller scale it can be of great benefit for a community.

Passthepeas··on 50 Years Ago, the Sugar Industry Paid Scientists to Blame Fat (2016)
except a low carb diet is completely possible without the use of animal products, so that point doesn't really hold water.
Passthepeas··on U.S. Now Says All Online Gambling Illegal, Not Just Sports Bets
It has always perplexed me why there is a desire to deal with kind of thing at the federal level in the first place. States being able to decide these things for themselves is supposed to be what makes such a massive country stay functional.
Passthepeas··on The richest families in Florence in 1427 are still the richest (2016)

Passthepeas··on Crypto Market Crash Leaving Bankrupt Startups in Its Wake
Sia is actually, at least in theory, cheaper. Long term Sia or something like it will dominate cloud storage. Right now though, it is not big enough for large enterprise investors, nor user-friendly enough for small scale/individual use.
Passthepeas··on Intermittent fasting: No advantage over conventional weight loss diets
In addition to this, some studies have shown intermittent fasting increases muscle mass (or in some cases, has less muscle loss than other diets), focusing on weight instead of BMI (or some other measure of body fat %) is a huuuge mistake. If a person gains 10 pounds of muscle but loses only 5 pounds of fat, it could be spun as a bad thing if you only focus on weight.
Passthepeas··on Largest brain imaging study identifies drivers of brain aging
I'm sure it sounds like a broken record at this point, but "correlation =/= causation". It is possible that many that abuse cannabis are also more likely to engage in other activities that could contribute to brain aging. Of course it does not mean there is not causation either, but nonetheless more research is needed to be able to say definitively that it contributes more to brain aging than alcohol. Also as others have pointed out, the researchers definition of "abuse" is not defined.

Edit: also would like to add that it is quite common for people with mental illness to self medicate with cannabis, there are enough variables here to make one want to pull their hair out

Passthepeas··on Show HN: Cost of a 51% Attack on Popular Cryptocurrencies
yeah Im confused as to why a proof of stake currency is even in the list
Passthepeas··on What Do CDC’s Surveys Say About the Frequency of Defensive Gun Uses?
why has this been flagged?
Passthepeas··on Fact-checking the Tor Project's government ties
Simple, there aren't any. Never, EVER, assume anonymity on the internet. Also I'll add the fact that if you even so much as download Tor, you have made it on a watch list; also exit nodes are a massive vulnerability. With those two things plus government involvement, it is unwise to assume Tor is anything but a honeypot. You want anonymity? Keep a low profile and try to hide in plain sight, maybe check out some add-ons recommended on privacytools.io
Passthepeas··on China’s web censors go into overdrive as President Xi Jinping consolidates power
I think it does more to illustrate hypocrisy and priorities than anything; it's like worrying about another driver's flat tire, when your own car is literally on fire. Though I do understand and agree with your overall sentiment.
Passthepeas··on Vitalik Unveils Ethereum 2.0 Roadmap
stocks are securities, while crypto projects are trying to be currencies, two very different things.
