LastZactionHero··on Every shot Kobe Bryant ever took
If something as banal as a shoe commercial has a legitimately inspirational message about failure and success, you could argue society has reached a new high.

The recent issues over encryption has actually changed my thinking on guns. I'm not 'pro gun', don't own guns, and want nothing to do with them personally.

But as I think about my stance on the legality of encryption it sounds pretty similar to the argument for guns. Still don't want one, but it's harder for me to be dismissive of a point when I turn around and use the same point for another issue.

LastZactionHero··on How Would You Do on the New SAT?
It's an 'isolate a variable and solve' thing.

- s + d = 209

- 2d + 6.5s = 836.50

- Solve for 's'

Man, I miss math.

Wow, thanks, I was thinking about COBRA yesterday and wondering what or stood for.

Definitely not what I came up with...

Looks like the filing system is unchanged from when John Oliver hugged it to death.
LastZactionHero··on How Elmo Ruined Sesame Street
I have the same gut reaction, but as counterpoint, I know some people that grew up with parents that really restricted viewing- not 'no tv at all', but close enough.

Later, the parents conceded that the media blackout backfired, as their kid couldn't relate to a lot of the things their peers were talking about- even if it is 'pointless bullshit'. They weren't like a social pariah or anything, but to this day, they feel uncomfortable in those conversations where you recall tv/movies growing up.

Not really defending tv, but there's probably a good middle ground that lets the kid still participate in their culture.

LastZactionHero··on F.C.C. Sides with Hot Spots, and Hospitality Industry Feels a Chill
"Although Wi-Fi might work fine for checking email or conducting a brief product demonstration, activities that demand more bandwidth or more security, like transmitting a live broadcast or running credit cards, still often require wired Internet access."

Why would running a credit card require wired internet?

LastZactionHero··on How the 'hoverboards' took off in spite of laws against them
I actually see these boards in airports as lot as well.

LastZactionHero··on Show HN: Hacker News Simulator
This reminds me of reading in a dream- nonsense sentences that sound familiar.
LastZactionHero··on Why I wouldn’t use Rails for a new company
Yeah, I'm not sure what kind of new company is willing so sacrifice productivity up front on a bet that future developers might not be excited about their codebase.

"Yeah, we're going to be another 2 months to launch because we're betting developers in 2018 prefer Go."

I'll be pretty surprised if you're still in business in three years.

LastZactionHero··on Lexus Builds a Functional Hoverboard Prototype
As a guy who wore out the Back to the Future II vhs growing up, the negativity is a little frustrating.

Technical limitations? Gasp! Not practical? Such hacks! Even the movie board didn't work on water.

It's a marketing stunt. But it's also an homage to something inspirational.

LastZactionHero··on Instacat – the kitten delivery service
The second feature page allows you to rent your own cat out- could be a purfect solution.

LastZactionHero··on Show HN: Retroospect – How was your work week?
I've always found 1-10 choices to be a frustrating scale for things are subjective.

Rate your week, 1-10. I dunno, what is 1 even like? Are you asking me to compare to the worst possible week? Yeah, my week sucked, but I'm not in work camp or anything.

This has been the most straightforward way of asking this kind of question I've seen.

LastZactionHero··on Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Graphics Study
Wow, that ceilings link is really cool.

I was also recently listening to that soundtrack. Kind of excited to see this thread, sometimes I think I'm the only person that loves this game.

Does anyone know how to turn on automatic suggestions for non-supported languages? Syntax highlighting works great for Ruby (not officially supported), and good suggestions appear with "Ctrl-Space", but not automatically. Haven't had much luck with the settings JSON.

Pretty neat, though!

LastZactionHero··on Nintendo Opens Door to Smartphone Games
I'm pretty tired of the 'free to play' revolution. I can't really wrap my head around why this is something consumers want.

"Your imaginary software racecar needs repairs! Wait 45 minutes or pay $2.99 and we'll set the 'repaired' variable to true."

People really do this?

LastZactionHero··on RentABuild – 3D Printer Rental
Thanks! We're running our pilot program now in the Denver/Boulder area, renting a Makerbot Replicator 5 for $150/week. This is all subject to change as we figure out the market.

Your comment is already super helpful, but feel free to sign up and help us gauge where people want to rent, and for how much. It's definitely not wasting our time.

LastZactionHero··on San Francisco system font replacement for Yosemite
After looking over the Yosemite change logs, as a non-iPhone user, it looks like a new font was all I had to look forward to. Every other update seems to concern sharing content between the desktop and iOS devices.

And now I'm finding out this new font- my only real reason for a 5GB update- is so unpopular that a hack to replace it is front page on HN.

Mixpanel is service for tracking app and site usage, similar to Google Analytics. It can track app actions and user behavior, along with stats like device, region, etc.

This is probably an aggregate of device usage among all of their customer's data.
