LIV2··on Doom (1993) Encryption
Is there a reason someone can't just ramble in a blog post?
LIV2··on U2F Support in OpenSSH Head
You can use it as a second factor by configuring the server to require both password & key with the "AuthenticationMethods" directive

You can also configure it to require public key + U2F by specifying pubkey auth twice which will require two different pub keys but I suppose that would depend on the user having only 1 regular pubkey and one U2F pubkey in their authorized_keys file

https://man.openbsd.org/sshd_config#AuthenticationMethods

LIV2··on U2F Support in OpenSSH Head
Neat, Can you update us with their reply? :)
LIV2··on Some Blizzard employees are dreading BlizzCon
Digging a game out of the archives is pretty stale imo
LIV2··on Containers in 2019: They're Calling It a Hypervisor Comeback
This is kinda where VMware is going with project pacific & vSphere integrated containers; containers running as individual VMs on a hypervisor. I wonder if we will see others following the same pattern?

I’m not sure what the drawbacks might be though

LIV2··on Letting Bird’s scooters fly free
Probably because the business risk is minimal, it's not likely to impact their bottom line so it doesn't have to be Fort Knox
LIV2··on The Demise of Physical Comedy
"We shan't be telling your mother this, shan't we" I lost it when I saw that https://youtu.be/tt8Iwf_87eY
LIV2··on NordVPN confirms it was hacked
When someone gets notified by their monitoring system that a server was unavailable (because it rebooted) they might investigate and see that the IPMI logs don't mention power loss

Power failure would require both of the power feeds in the DC failing simultaneously and would be easily verified by contacting the DC and asking if they had any power outages reported at the time. Of course there are cheapskates who don't go for redundant power supplies so it's possible but would be indicated in the IPMI logs

LIV2··on NordVPN confirms it was hacked
It doesn't make much sense to me, even with iDRAC/some other console access you don't really have access to OS unless you reboot & go to single user mode etc at which point they should be noticing their servers rebooting etc. would love more info
LIV2··on Australia Newspapers Redact Front Pages in Media-Freedom Protest
If they get their special treatment they will stop talking about it. If they don't get what they want they'll keep bringing it up and it'll hopefully become an election issue leading to freedoms for everyone
LIV2··on Australia Newspapers Redact Front Pages in Media-Freedom Protest
I'd be happy to support them if they were campaigning for all Australians to have the same rights to freedom from government spying etc but they're not.

Making journalists a protected class is not the answer, it just means they'll continue to push the agenda down our throats.

LIV2··on Australia Newspapers Redact Front Pages in Media-Freedom Protest
I would probably care more had the Aussie media not spent the last decade telling us that government backdoors, spying, censorship etc were good things. The Aussie media are boot lickers and only mad now that the government is going to treat them like they treat everyone else
LIV2··on DNS 101: An Introduction to Domain Name Servers
Yes, registrars have an agreement with the TLDs and have API access that allows them to submit requests for DNS delegation, transfers, registrations, creating glue records etc.

The registrar will send a request to the TLD to essentially ask that they delegate your domain to a specified nameserver which will add records to the TLDs zone for your domain

LIV2··on .NET Core 3.0 Concludes the .NET Framework API Porting Project
Powershell is shit for discovery & not useful at all for the majority of Windows consumers i.e regular users. You shouldn't need to learn powershell to switch your audio output
LIV2··on The complicated ethics of Tesla’s Autopilot
Pretty much what I was trying to get at
LIV2··on The complicated ethics of Tesla’s Autopilot
If your wife or child got mowed down by an autonomous car would you be thinking "Oh well, that's progress!"

Is it ethical to build something knowing it will definitely kill random people until you perfect the technology? Will auto makers be held accountable for any wrongful deaths caused by bugs?

LIV2··on Most first-time visitors to Japan are struck by how clean the country is
Which part of Denmark? I am an Aussie living in Sweden but travel to Copenhagen every now and again and haven't noticed any mess

LIV2··on Why Apple “Killed” the MacBook Pro
> Yes I know there have been issues with the keyboard but they are resolving that.

They've said that a couple of times. I'll believe it when I see it.

> I always feel bad for my co-workers who have to use Linux on ThinkPads

Why? I mean I've worked as a sysadmin using macs since they switched to Intel but at this point I'd switch to an X1 Carbon running Fedora if my 2013 Retina died. (And yes I had one of the newer ones at my last job)

LIV2··on Why It’s Hard for Startups to Create Wealth in Europe
Sweden does, if you're a non-EU citizen at least and love to deport tech workers.

You can be deported for having been paid too little, if your company didn't contribute enough pension or if you didn't take enough holidays.

LIV2··on I Can Eat Glass
US English?

To an Aussie bogan like me I'd pronounce the two the same usually, I have to think of the difference as how an American says glass vs how an Englishman/Aussie might say glass

I haven't had the balls to try speaking Swedish yet so haven't asked to eat some glass yet

LIV2··on DevOps Topologies
Collaboration requires empathy, which rarely happens when developers think ops are subhuman filth.

In my last Organization the devs largely treated ops like trash, it was only the dev teams on the most business critical and performance sensitive apps that really worked well with ops because it necessitated a close working relationship through the good times and through the hard times & they natuarally came to respect each other's skills

LIV2··on Apple is evaluating new keyboard mechanisms to make thinner MacBooks

LIV2··on Apple is evaluating new keyboard mechanisms to make thinner MacBooks
Idgi, I used Macs for 10 years until the end of last year working as a Linux sysadmin/Devops kinda workflows and WSL is good enough

I prefer my Mac with iTerm etc etc but I still work with WSL just as well today

LIV2··on Apple is evaluating new keyboard mechanisms to make thinner MacBooks
If you prefer a computer with a non-functional keyboard buy an iPad
LIV2··on Apple is evaluating new keyboard mechanisms to make thinner MacBooks
> IMO the 2015 MacBook Pro is the best Mac out there, mainly because of its beautiful retina display, perfect weight, and most importantly, a good keyboard.

Yep, I have a Late 2013 Retina still going strong, the only thing is I've had to replace the battery a couple of times which is a pain in the ass but it was used as my daily work machine for half of its life and still going strong.

My old work laptop was one of the more recent MacBook models and I never got used to the keyboard or having to use dongles for everything.

LIV2··on Arduino MKR Vidor 4000 – Arduino, Cyclone 10 FPGA, MiniPCI Express, MicroHDMI
Title is slightly misleading, it isss the mini-pci express connector but the FPGA itself can't talk pci-express as it lacks the necessary transceivers
LIV2··on Ask HN: Do any companies not do coding challenges?
"Hire fast, fire fast" is something I used to think was a good idea but it relies on management having the balls to fire, in the case I saw they never did grow the balls and the competence of the team cratered as incompetence became the new team culture
LIV2··on Realtek RTL836x series of Ethernet switch ICs has a 8051 hidden inside
Probably the same reasons the 6502 core is being used so much.

Well known cores that are proven reliable over several decades, very well documented and seemingly any bugs are known already. Also cheap

LIV2··on Chef-sugar stands its grounds against ICE contract
