HardwareLust··on Readers noticed updated pop culture references on Kindle
I can understand editing the Kindle version for typos, but inserting a TikTok reference into a book from 2006 is going a bit too far.

In the late 90s/early 2000's, AA was lit. Really good competitive shooter for free.
HardwareLust··on The Appalling Stupidity of Spotify's AI DJ
I've tried it, and it's completely useless. I wish I could just remove it from the ui, it's just taking up space.

I just don't understand how it can be so bad. It literally has a database of every song I've ever streamed, it should not be that difficult to figure out what I like. Last.fm's old algorithm did a great job of recommending new tracks with zero AI.

HardwareLust··on Japanese firm Space One plans to launch Kairos No.3 rocket on Sunday
If Sunday's liftoff succeeds, Space One will become the first private Japanese company to put satellites into orbit on its own.
HardwareLust··on Dear Time Lords: Freeze Computers in 1993
In 1993 I was using a Mac IIvx running (I think) System 7.5. I'd be OK with this.

HardwareLust··on A 26-Gram Butterfly-Inspired Robot Achieving Autonomous Tailless Flight
"Their non-invasive maneuverability is ideally suited for real-world applications, such as confined-space inspection and ecological monitoring, inaccessible to traditional drones"

I'm having a hard time imagining a situation where flapping wings would be superior to a rotary winged drone. Anyone have any insight?

HardwareLust··on Why does the Hacker News UI never get updated?
It's clean and it works. There really is no reason to update it.

The only meaningful improvement I would want is a dark mode, which they have steadfastly refused to provide.

Just switch to 6 letters. That would increase the possible number of answers by millions.
HardwareLust··on Men in their 50s may be aging faster due to toxic 'forever chemicals'
If this were true, would we not see a corresponding drop in life expectancy?
HardwareLust··on Bcachefs creator insists his custom LLM is female and 'fully conscious'
Sometimes a lie is so egregious that we actually consider it might have some truth to it just simply because it's impossible to imagine that someone would be bold enough to utter it.
HardwareLust··on Japanese Death Poems
Yes, some of the translations are inexact, but what gets me is how many of these are still beautiful and even profound even after they are translated.
HardwareLust··on New accounts on HN more likely to use em-dashes
I'm just going to continue to mis-use the en-dash like I've always done.
HardwareLust··on Half million 'Words with Spaces' missing from dictionaries
I disagree these belong in a traditional dictionary.

I could, however be convinced these could be documented/defined in a separate document, especially from the perspective you are coming from (word games).

HardwareLust··on What Happened to Fry's Electronics
I know it's a damn shame. Back in the day when we actually went out shopping in stores that was always one of favorite places to go, even if just to walk around and check out all the cool shit they had.
HardwareLust··on Ask HN: Where do you save links, notes and random useful stuff?
Google isn't exactly famous for maintaining their products. They'll kill it eventually, just a question of when.
