You can’t verify that iOS is doing what Apple says that it’s doing, because you can’t read the code. You can’t trust that Apple perfectly understands their product, because it’s extremely complicated, and therefore you can’t just take their word for it. I’ll state that the check here, although it’s painfully obvious, is that exploits happen. Researcher opinions are fine, but facts are better.
None of this is in any way contentious or new, it’s the exact debate about open-vs-closed that we’ve been having since the beginning of software.

The bug bounty is pretty hard to actually get access to, there’s still no source outside of the kernel, and the Security Research Devices are really hard to get access to. You have to be someone they’ve heard of, in a country they approve of, you can’t move the device around, and you have to sign your life away to get it for 12* months.
This was not the worst possible result.
If you stand (and especially walk) in a fast current, you’re asking to get your foot caught and then drowned.
All of this delightful nuance goes to my previous point; there’s plenty to debate and discuss here and the whole idea of an absolute right to privacy in public is comical.
And yet here we are. You’re not in charge, and telling other people what they are and aren’t allowed to do just to meet some arbitrary desire of yours is being a dick. Do you really expect everyone not to take pictures and videos of games you’re at? Museums you’re in? Concerts you attend? Come on.
It can simultaneously be true that major gains are made after downturns and that there has historically been a strong correlation between downturns and unemployment.
They’re not suggesting deleting individual files or mucking with the registry, they’re talking about using a clean, user-facing tool just in a more surgical and thoughtful manner.
Turns out lots of people have decided what the conclusion is and are taking that conclusion and the data, and then blindly munging until they get a path which connects them.
