Meanwhile the free western country I live in had a million Covid death.
It's very plausible that this isn't about money, and I never said it's about money. However it's far more plausible that this is about a narcissist buying media and social influence and he wants to be able to shape public discourse that paints him in a positive light. He really cares what people thinks of him.
All of that would seem far more likely (and suits his past track record) than him doing this to "save democracy".
I appreciate you bringing new info to my eyes.
Can you point me toward where they tried to hide the outbreak?
Jesus I know it's Friday but some of you guys start drinking early man.
And? China notified WHO and US CDC about the new virus at the end of December: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_COVID-19_pande...
>"making false comments on the Internet about unconfirmed SARS outbreak.""
And he was making false comment. He was an eye doctor and he was telling people in his WeChat group that the original SARS came back.
>Sure. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/31/a-man-lies-dea...
Did you not read that article?
"AFP could not determine how the man, who appeared to be aged in his 60s, had died."
The guy literally had a shopping bag in his hand. Wuhan is a city of 10 million people, how many do you think dies from stroke or heart attacks each day?
Or it could be Covid, in which the only known case of making people drop dead while on a shopping trip is somehow captured by this reporter.
>that my communication-medium
Twitter is first and foremost a publishing platform, you should not rely on it as a private communication medium. None of the chat apps I know censor stuff, so use them instead.
Use Twitter for public communication if you want, but since it's in the public domain you can't complain too much if there is content moderation.
No. But you immediately made this into a Camp A vs. Camp B problem when in reality there could be a million different reasons for the Twitter board to not want to get acquired means you weren't trying to discuss this specific situation, you were looking to turn this into a debate on "wokeness". That's why I said you weren't discussing in good faith.
>The balance sheet speaks for itself.
Does it? Elon has seen the same balance sheet and he thinks the true value of the company is higher than what it is now as well. So obviously he thinks Twitter has the potential to achieve much higher value through implementing XYZ. The board agrees too but just disagree on what that XYZ is.
A simple visit to the Wikipedia article on Covid timeline showed that to be false.
>video on Reddit showed people dying in the streets.
That was literally just a drunk guy falling on street. Covid doesn't just make people drop dead while walking on the street lol. America suffered a million Covid deaths and we have zero videos of people just drop dead on the street from it.
But I agree with you, you can't cover up an actual pandemic in a country with hundreds of thousands of foreigners living and working there.
That sentence alone means you weren't even discussing this in good faith.
It's very well possible that the Twitter board believes that they can achieve higher value for the shareholders than what Elon offered. It's also very well possible that after talking to Elon through private conversations that you were not part of, they fundamentally disagree with his value and the direction he wants to take the company.
>I think his plan B will be to start a competitor.
Hey, maybe he would buy Parler, that would sure get him all the attention he desperately craves for. /s but maybe not.
He doesn't most of the time. Read the first link I sent you. He stays in his friend's estate.
People care about different kind of luxury.
Man you are really personally enamored with him. There is nothing that says you can't do good for the society and be extremely profit driven.
>All of them are helping to solve a problem for mankind.
And solving problems for mankind is very profitable.
He absolutely live a life of luxury. He literally used to daily drive a McLaren F1. He stays around in his billionaire friends' mansions when he travels: https://observer.com/2021/12/elon-musk-staying-at-billionair...
And he absolutely is dressed in designer cloths from head to toe for all his public events.
No seriously:

Elon is extremely vain so he doesn't put on anything by accidents.
>If anyone really thinks he is doing all this just to get rich needs to do some more research on him.
It's incredibly obvious he's doing this to be rich. He has incredibly expensive taste that goes far beyond than things like fancy yachts or private islands. He cares about money because it affords him soft power, influence, public adoration and the ability to buy things like you know... *10% of Twitter*.
He is both very well accomplished and a textbook narcissist who ties his sense of self-identity with the world's perception of him. That's why he gets incredibly defensive against naysayers and he is always pushing to "one-up" others.
So yeah, he absolutely cares about being rich because to him it's a validation of his own ego and also allows him to continue to purchase influence and power and attention.
You are saying Elon hired a bunch of dumb people to be executives for his companies.
Not sure that's what you want to imply.
But sure, he's one of us because one of the many places he stays at is a prefab house that's right next to his work.
I agree, but I don't think the disruption will go the way you or I hope it would.
Many of the companies that is "one tier" below were able to offer higher comp only because of sky high valuation from the recent bubble. Most of them aren't in the kind of cashflow positions that can sustain such high cost if the stock value correct. If we enter an economic situation where stock value go down for companies like MSFT, Google and Apple, what do you think would happen to the stock price of high flying growth companies that don't even make a profit?
And guess what, most of them are coming to the realization that you don't need to actually pay $300k+/yr to hire some IC just to build React components or spin up another Node.js microservice. I know of quite a few companies (especially the ones that took a beating on the market recently) that's already starting to pivot more aggressively to foreign developers and starting to look at engineering offices outside of the country. If anything, the past two years only made a global workforce to be easier than ever to adopt.
Basically I think given the macroeconomic that's going on, the days when barely profitable or even cashflow negative "growth" companies offering FAANG-beating compensation packages will soon be gone. The numbers just won't add up anymore.
They are literally the physical objects that's filmed for the production of animated shows/movies.
The live action production's equivalent to owning an animation cel would be owning the entire set, actors included lol.
Owning a single key frame from my favorite Anime movie has always been a dream of mine, that's why I was ecstatic to get my hands on this last year: https://i.imgur.com/WcWF7x8.jpg
According to you, as long as a piece of software isn't killing millions of people, it's totally A-ok because human are worse?
The very fact that you are able to cherry-pick failure cases from a mere fleet of 23k cars means the system is by no means ready.
In fact, you/Tesla/everyone involved should encourage people to "try your best to cherry-pick failure cases". What you are advocating is the opposite of being responsible (let's try to ignore the failure cases and focus on when it works!)
>For sure the most fun I've had behind the wheel in 25 years of licensed driving.
I'm sorry but the amount of "fun" you have behind the wheel is not remotely close to being a success criteria for a system named "full self driving".
Tornado warnings don't have pinpoint accuracy. There is just high of a chance for tornado to touch down on your car on the road. Staying in an existing build's shelter absolutely is the right thing to do. No business/organizations send their employees out of the door when there is a tornado warning. THAT, would be corporate manslaughter.
Secondly I don't know what you are suggesting here. Do you have any idea how frequent weather like this are in the midwest?
The company in this link is another one. I have no idea what MetaCompany does.
The reality is that globally, mobile now surpasses desktop in terms of times spent: https://www.perficient.com/insights/research-hub/mobile-vs-d....
And it's about 50/50 for the U.S.
It's very interesting to see how people look at relationship building with others. Many introverts on HN and Reddit see it as a mostly negative thing and equivalent people interaction and relationship building to drama, gossip, and forced friendliness.
I'm sorry none of those are direct indication of productivity per se, even profitability, which is a long lagging indicator of productivity.
For better or worse, in this country you don't get to confiscate assets, dissolve corporations or put people in jail just because you don't like them.
