Yeah it even admitted that Biden won the 2020 election. I'm honestly surprised haha.

That "training cost" is just live revenue count for Anthropic/OpenAI API calls!

2.6-pro just reached 63.7% by step 10, it's on step 11 right now.

Even flash reached 60.7% by step 12, and it's on step 16 now.

This is so exciting lmao.

> much less protections in terms of well-being (no federal minimum wage, absurd work hours as standard, etc)

There absolutely is minimal wage but is set by local governments, because different places have different cost of living.

There are better protections for work hours for salaried workers than America. Anything above 40 hours get paid at 1.5X and anything above 60 hours get paid at 2x.

For layoffs in China, you have to pay N+1 of months of salary in terms of severance. N being the number of years an employee has been there.

And talking about absurd work hours, SK and Japan aren't better than China.

So China overall has far better labor rights protection than the U.S.

But not all machines are the same?

If you were ever trapped on the top floor of a burning building, should we just send a car up there?

Nobody is surprised by advancement like this, but there is still a lot of engineering that went into it, not talking about how it’s now almost consumer grade tech that you can buy.

Hint: It's not the U.S.

If that’s the case businesses would be seeing millions to billions of profit gain (or cost reduction) in the past 4 months as they went from Opus 4.6 to Fable 5.

But that’s simply not the case. It’s very clear that vast majority of the business do not generate additional value from incremental intelligence gain from these models.

There is a reason why Chinese open weight models are now popular even in American enterprises, because CTOs realize that they are indeed good enough.

Cookingboy··on DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731
Except Fable won’t be costing $100 for enterprises that will be considering the Chinese models.

If $100 Claud Max subscription works for you, then great.

But you have to remember your pricing is subsidized by enterprises that pay hundreds of thousands of dollars each month, if not more, to Anthropic.

For those companies, a Chinese model that can cut their AI spend from $1M/month to $200k suddenly seems attractive.

And unfortunately for the American tech industry, the valuation is based off those enterprise deals, not your $100/month Claude Max subscription.

Cookingboy··on Qwen3.8 Max now ranked as the best overall model by agentic index
That’s the thing, the difference is so small that you won’t be wasting an hour per day with a model that’s 95% as good. In fact, you’d notice zero difference most of the days and when you do, maybe it’s an extra 30 minutes.

And the price difference is far greater than $2k/month once the API cost is no longer subsidized.

Would your employer be paying an extra $20k/month to Anthropic if it can save you 2 hours a month?

Cookingboy··on DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731
That doesn’t make sense. It’s not like SOTA models are error free, yet we still use them.

You use Fable 5 right? If that’s good enough for you now, why wouldn’t a Chinese model that’s as good as Fable 5 but at 10% the cost be good enough in 6 months?

Cookingboy··on Qwen3.8 Max now ranked as the best overall model by agentic index
>So why would I want to switch to even worse model?

There would be no reason to if you are in the privileged position where cost isn't an issue.

For the rest of us something that's 95% as good for 20% the price is a hell of a value proposition.

Cookingboy··on Our position on open-weights models
According to the U.S. State Department, they literally do not:

https://law.stanford.edu/press/state-department-lawyers-conc...

That whole thing was a very successful propaganda campaign, making people believing China has been mass murdering Uyghurs.

Cookingboy··on Our position on open-weights models
>The claim is they don’t engage in warfare when they do, just exclusively in the digital domain for now.

Come on, are you seriously equating hacking to literally bombing and killing people? That's just arguing in very bad faith.

Calling hacking "warfare" is just intellectually dishonest, if not downright disgusting toward the actual victims of American wars.

Cookingboy··on Our position on open-weights models
Like half of the world are now struggling with energy prices due to an unprovoked war started by U.S. and Israel and somehow an American billionaire is here criticizing China of being a threat to world peace.

It's kinda gross.

Cookingboy··on Our position on open-weights models
I mean in the Bloomberg interview he has made it very explicit that he fully believes in American Exceptionalism. He literally said AI being involved in bombing school girls in other countries are ok because he trusts the American military leadership.

According to him the safety and morality rule of the whole world should be written by America alone.

Which is why in the same interview he said he supports the U.S. foreign policy while calling China "an aggressive and war mongering regime".

>This is clearly false to the rest of the world.

It's clearly false to more and more Americans too. But since the oligarch class benefits first and foremost from U.S. government policies the propaganda will continue to go on.

Cookingboy··on Our position on open-weights models
>the belief that AGI is too dangerous to be controlled by OpenAI/Sam Altman.

I agree with that assessment. But the Dario's jump went from "AGI should not be controlled by OpenAI/Sam Altman" to "AGI shoudl be controlled by Anthropic/Dario", which is definitely a better scenario for him, but not the rest of the world.

>It naturally follows that it would also be too dangerous to be in the hands of literally everyone on earth.

In fact, you can argue that in a world where all countries have nuclear weapons is actually a better scenario than a world where nuclear weapons are owned by 1 or 2 American billionaires/trillionaires, no matter if those people believe they are the "good guys".

Cookingboy··on Our position on open-weights models
Yeah Dario is just flat out disgusting in term of how shamelessly hypocritical he is.

Do people actually believe that he gives a shit about the well being of the Chinese people? If the U.S. starts a war with China start bombing Chinese cities Dario would absolutely jump onboard supporting it. He'd probably make Claude to add DeepSeek and Moonshot HQ to the targeting list lmao.

He is super pro-Israel as well, and never once has he brought up the risk of the Israeli government using AI to control and repress people in other countries.

He is also 100% onboard with working with Palantir, who has the explicit goal of using AI for population control and repression and building out a surveillance state.

Meanwhile the world's most repressive government is North Korea, and obviously they don't even need AI to achieve that.

If you talk to people in China they'd laugh their ass off at Dario's notion that somehow they are all getting oppressed by DeepSeek or Kimi.

Cookingboy··on There is a shadow hanging over this Fable thing

Cookingboy··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
>the act of organizing and strategically disseminating the speech is not speech

It is, and the court acknowledged that editorial control is protected speech.

The ruling was made based on data privacy ground, not First Amendment Speech ground.

Cookingboy··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
>owever, in a great act of self-incrimination, Bytedance (de facto controlled by CCP) has decided to not divest and would rather shutdown instead.

How is it self-incrimination? That logic doesn't work.

80% of TikTok's users are outside of the U.S., why would they sell the whole thing?

And the law is written in a way that there is no value to just sell the American operation without the algorithm, they have to sell the whole thing, including the algorithm, in order for there to be a serious buyer.

It's technology highway robbery. Imagine if China told Apple "sell to us or be banned", we'd tell them to pound sand too.

Cookingboy··on TikTok preparing for U.S. shut-off on Sunday
> I think it is about banning a propaganda

The problem of allowing government banning propaganda is it allows government to ban anything they label as propaganda. There is no law defining what's propaganda, so you just end up with the government being able to ban any information they don't like.

Imagine the government drums up for another illegal war like Iraq using fake evidence, and we ban all counter evidence as "foreign propaganda". Do you not see how dangerous that gets?

>That, for me, is enough of a reason to ban it and justify it under our constitution

The Supreme Court has explicitly ruled in the past foreign propaganda is protected speech under First Amendment.

You cannot strip American citizens' rights to receive foreign propaganda if they choose to do so.

Cookingboy··on US lawmakers tell Apple, Google to be ready to remove TikTok from stores Jan. 19
>There are a bunch and they are very easy to find.

Really? Because the U.S. government, in their own court filing, have openly admitted that there is no evidence of TikTok's wrong doing in terms of manipulating information.

I don't think it gets much more authoritative than U.S. government's own court filing.

The link you provided has been debunked over and over again. It was a paid-for study aimed to generate certain conclusion.

And its methodology is silly at best, insane at worst (uses U.S. social media company as a control group for neutrality on China lmao).

Cookingboy··on US lawmakers tell Apple, Google to be ready to remove TikTok from stores Jan. 19
If you do understand First Amendment then you should also understand that foreign propaganda is protected speech, and is not treated as yelling fire in a crowded theater:

Cookingboy··on US lawmakers tell Apple, Google to be ready to remove TikTok from stores Jan. 19

Good. Because ByteDance has never tried to hide the fact that it's a Chinese company. So that argument wouldn't matter even if there are evidence of them pushing Chinese propaganda.
