Choco31415··on HH70, the first high-temperature superconducting Tokamak achieves first plasma
High temperature superconductors don't have to work at room temperature. As it doesn't require liquid nitrogen cooling, it's a lot easier to maintain and run.
Choco31415··on Apollo 8 astronaut William Anders ID'd in WA plane crash
Even if we stretch out and look at how fast the Earth orbits the sun, it still doesn't explain the 4 mile figure.

Earth's orbital speed: 66,200 mph

66,200 mph / 3600 s/h = 18.38 mps

18.38 * (1/250) = 0.07 miles

Choco31415··on Bluesky announces data federation for self hosters
If storage is a problem, couldn’t Blusky add a size limit to video uploads?

I have! It was a light and fun level. c:
Choco31415··on Echo Chess: The Quest for Solvability
Are you sure that level 13 is possible?

There doesn't seem to be a way to both take the f2 king and the a1 pawn. The b6 bishop can't reach either. The d1 pawn can only reach one or the other.

Choco31415··on Techdirt has been deleted from Bing and DuckDuckGo [fixed]
To form a bit of common ground, yegg hasn’t talked much about the specifics of the TechDirt case. I think bufferoverflow is wanting those details.

Just because delistings can happen because of Bing doesn’t mean that’s what happened here.

Choco31415··on Techdirt has been deleted from Bing and DuckDuckGo [fixed]
There’s a “Share Feedback” button at the bottom of the search page. Yegg said it’s read by humans too.
Choco31415··on Techdirt has been deleted from Bing and DuckDuckGo [fixed]
Actually it’s a fairly easy process to contact DDG. There’s the “Share Feedback” button on every search page. It may be a little less visible, but there’s also a contact email listed on the Press page.
Choco31415··on Techdirt has been deleted from Bing and DuckDuckGo [fixed]
Like photonerd mentioned, yegg (The Founder of DDG) is answering that and similar questions in this thread:

Choco31415··on Twitter has officially changed its logo to ‘X’
I hate to say this, but is there a good way to remove Musk’s ownership of the platform?
Choco31415··on Twitter now requires an account to view tweets
That doesn't make sense. Why is Twitter forced to hold the debt for being purchased and not Elon?

Looking at the numbers that is a lot of debt:

https://www.wsj.com/articles/elon-musks-twitter-takeover-see...

"As part of the deal, Twitter will add about $13 billion of debt. Analysts estimate, based on terms previously laid out in documents related to the transaction, that Twitter would be on the hook for annual interest payments of more than $1 billion, compared with some $51 million in 2021."

Choco31415··on Twitter now requires an account to view tweets
I’m learning more about the Twitter situation slowly. Why did it take on massive debt?
Choco31415··on What is driving the high suicide rate among farmers? (2022)
How do we know that current day pesticides are safe as well? What sort of testing, etc happens?
Choco31415··on 33-46% of workers on MTurk used LLMs in a text production task
You could potentially introduce an occasional prompt and check the answer against a few LLMs to see if they match.
Choco31415··on Reddit Strike Has Started
Just the title. The page itself acknowledges that the strike is scheduled to start tomorrow:

“These subreddits are going dark or read-only on June 12th and after. ”

Choco31415··on Covid-19 vaccination-related myocarditis: A Korean nationwide study
Wasn’t the goal not to prevent infection, but instead to reduce the spread of the disease? If I remember correctly hospitals were overburdened at the time.

Also no I (personally) have not seen anyone have any sores or issues with wearing a mask, medical professionals, students, or otherwise.

Choco31415··on Researchers treat depression by reversing brain signals traveling the wrong way
I went through a few different versions of depression myself and it absolutely feels that way. Each was caused by a different trigger, and the strangest thing is, despite all the tests doctors ran, everything came back normal. They couldn’t figure out what was happening.
Choco31415··on Discord’s username change is causing discord
If a person or a group needs a unique username, then give them the #'less version of it.

Outside of that, the issue isn't a problem.

For a community based platform like Discord it's valuable to let people have the name they want and if that means people make typos from time to time, then that's necessary.

Choco31415··on U.S. regulator set to take over First Republic
I understand that these are things to be avoided, but don’t understand how they impact small/large businesses. Do you have some resources to better understand the subject?
Choco31415··on Chemists tackle the tough challenge of recycling mixed plastics
One of the things I’ve seen at universities a lot are signs on the recycling and garbage bins saying what is allowed and not. Maybe recycling bins could have more of that to help people know what’s okay or not.

Do you think it’d help if the plastic type label was color coded too? Say yellow for PET, red for HDPE, etc, to help people recycle only the right plastics.

Generally I’ve seen that it’s not that people don’t understand recycling, it’s that it takes energy and effort to figure out what to do and it’s not always easy.

Choco31415··on U.S. regulator set to take over First Republic
Is there a way to help small businesses avoid failing in these situations?
Choco31415··on Microsoft to change PrintScreen button to open the Snipping Tool in Windows 11
If they’re programmatically pressing the PrtScr button, then hopefully it’s not too difficult to write or find a library that takes a screenshot too.
Choco31415··on Alaska’s Fisheries Are Collapsing
Did the NE manage to address the fleet efficiency problem?
Choco31415··on Alaska’s Fisheries Are Collapsing
It was an enjoyable read for me. I got to learn about the fishing industry and it seemed well written.
Choco31415··on Chemists create methane fuel from sun, carbon dioxide and water (2022)
> Nature overcomes this with unbelievably complex protein repair structures that literally swap out defective proteins for new ones.

Interesting. Mind if I get a link to read up more on the subject? c:

Choco31415··on U.S. military shoots down suspected Chinese surveillance balloon
I poked at the website a bit and the fastest wind speed I could find in the world was roughly 360 km/h. Over the US there were some 250 km/h winds.

That is interesting!

Choco31415··on Long Covid: major findings, mechanisms and recommendations
I suffered severe depression after getting the J&J vaccine - it wasn't even an mRNA vaccine. It became significantly harder to code and my brain felt like it had been dragged across concrete. Later it'd be stinging and I was dry heaving. Not fun.

I hate to ask - but what sort of research is available so far?
