AkshatJ27··on Hengefinder: Finding when the sun aligns with your street
Not sure if this is the app you were referring to, But Stellarium does exactly what you're describing.
AkshatJ27··on Honey's Dieselgate: Detecting and tricking testers
The youtuber MegaLag released part 1 of his investigation roughly 1 year ago: https://youtu.be/vc4yL3YTwWk

Recently, he released 2 more parts with more new information that paints Honey in a pretty bad light: https://youtu.be/qCGT_CKGgFE https://youtu.be/wwB3FmbcC88

AkshatJ27··on Our new SAM audio model transforms audio editing
You can try it out in the playground: https://aidemos.meta.com/segment-anything/gallery/ There seem to be many more fun little demos by meta here like automatic video masking, making 3d models from 2d images, etc.
AkshatJ27··on NPM debug and chalk packages compromised
Isn't the intended behaviour of original comment checking the node_modules folder for the "infected" string.

AkshatJ27··on Famous chef wants to open a Bay Area restaurant. A gas stove ban may prevent it
Electric stovetops do not work for all applications, try using a wok or any other round bottom utensil on an induction stove
AkshatJ27··on I downloaded all 1.6M posts on Bluesky
Everyone gets an invite every 2 weeks. The staff can give anyone more invites as per their will
AkshatJ27··on Bluesky Overhaul: the UI enhancement browser extension

AkshatJ27··on Netflix loses 1M users in Spain over password policing
Netflix is only slightly more convenient than piracy. If they push too hard, many people will take the other route.

AkshatJ27··on Ask HN: What US bank post-SVB would you recommend?
Maybe because it looked like you were only suggesting the app for monetary gain?
AkshatJ27··on Ask HN: What US bank post-SVB would you recommend?
Your original post was probably downvoted because of the referral link.
AkshatJ27··on Infinite-Storage-Glitch – Use YouTube as cloud storage for any files
Most platforms compress uploaded images, which would result in the appended data being removed.
AkshatJ27··on Yark: Advanced and easy YouTube archiver now stable
Bandwidth is expensive and videos take up way more bandwidth than text. I'd say it would be pretty much impossible to run something like YouTube, on that big of a scale, solely on donations.
AkshatJ27··on How do I draw a pair of buttocks? (2014)
why are you so personally offended by these jokes? You have spammed the exact same reply at least three times on this thread.
AkshatJ27··on [dead]
I think that is the joke, Implying most of the HN content nowadays is AI generated.
AkshatJ27··on Pomsky – A portable, modern regular expression language
> If you know RegExp's, the syntax will immediately make sense

If I know RegEx, why would I use pomsky?

AkshatJ27··on Stone tablet shows Babylonians able to approximate √2 with 99.9999% accuracy
The only thing extra in the post is the relation between this method and the Newton-Raphson method. You can find the method here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton%27s_method#Square_root
AkshatJ27··on Bitmap Logic Simulator – Game
Neat game, Works fine on chrome/firefox but is unplayable on edge due to lag.
AkshatJ27··on Enhance Speech from Adobe – Free AI filter for cleaning up spoken audio
Sound takes lesser time to travel in smaller rooms, hence the difference in time is not very large between the original sound wave and the reflected one which makes it harder to distinguish to human ears.
AkshatJ27··on Show HN: Domain Name Search with AI
Might be good to let people know you are the Founder of the above mentioned service.

Also, I couldn't find any information about the data it was trained on, and comparison with OpenAPI since you are offering yourself as a replacement for their API.

edit: found the following blog post: https://text-generator.io/blog/over-10x-openai-cost-savings-...

I can't see how its a 10x saving when your API performs worse than davinci (according to the blog post), and is 0.01$ per request. Assuming each request to use up 1000 tokens, the next OpenAPI model Curie is just 0.002$ per request.

AkshatJ27··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
Were the typos in the readme intentional?
AkshatJ27··on Building an interpreter for my programming language with ChatGPT
As explained by GPT:

> The comment seems to be expressing the idea that developers are similar to horseshoe makers in that their work, like the work of horseshoe makers, is becoming increasingly obsolete or irrelevant.

AkshatJ27··on Building an interpreter for my programming language with ChatGPT
Instead of optimizing the original prompt, if it spits out something wrong, try and point out the mistake, it is pretty quick to fix it in most cases.
AkshatJ27··on Lastpass Security Incident

AkshatJ27··on Biotech firm uses tiny worms in test for pancreatic cancer
> In the latest version, the company tweaked the genetic code of the nematodes so that they would swim away from pancreatic cancer samples. Hirotsu Bio started with pancreatic cancer due to its difficulty in diagnosis and speed of progression.

I'm kinda amazed that we are able to change the genetic code of the organisms to make them do something

AkshatJ27··on Using a date-modified header to detect unique visitors without using cookies
what is the problem with letting a website know how many times I have visited the page? How is it better for a website to only know if I have visited earlier or not?
