Ajay-p··on iPhones were being stolen off porches right after delivery, and now we know how
Really it goes back on to the seller. Because if I don't get my item, I'm going to dispute the charge on my credit card. Eventually, someone pays, but not me.
Ajay-p··on Extracting DNA from the air – DNA evidence of human occupancy in indoor premises
Because people believe it, and courts have accepted as fact that DNA evidence is infallible. Certainly there have been cases where DNA has been successfully challenged, but those are very rare. In the overwhelming number of cases where DNA evidence is present, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy for juries and judges.

If there is DNA evidence that is almost a guilty verdict. It should be more closely scrutinized but not everyone is rich enough to afford a real defense.

Same thing happened to Barbara Mukulski of Maryland. She just stopped showing up unless her vote was absolutely necessary
Ajay-p··on Apple introduces iPad Air with powerful M3 chip and new Magic Keyboard
Remember when Steve Jobs returned to Apple and simplified the product line? I feel like Apple needs that again.
Ajay-p··on Apple introduces iPad Air with powerful M3 chip and new Magic Keyboard
I love my iPad because of the pencil. I got rid of an office overflowing with paper, and I write everything in an app on the iPad. It then gets saved up into the cloud. That alone has made iPad worth it for me. Sometimes I watch movies on it.
Ajay-p··on Federal prisons prep to move trans inmates as early as next week
this already exists in the form of medical facilities for inmates with mental and physical limitations.
Ajay-p··on The Constitutional Case Against Exclusionary Zoning
I maintain that we do NOT have a housing crisis, only a crisis of not enough housing in cities and places where people want to live. Instead, we have a neighborhood and zoning problem.
Ajay-p··on We Are Starting to Enjoy Hatred
I think you can convince just about anyone to hate given time and the right circumstances, but it's even easier IMO when it is prescribed to groups. Then in-group dynamics reinforce the behavior.
Ajay-p··on Southwest Plane Plunged Within 400 Feet of Ocean Near Hawaii
As I mentioned, older Boeing's. The Dreamliner been flying since 2011, that's an older Boeing for me, compared to the 737 Max which has only been flying commercially since 2016.
Ajay-p··on Denmark recalls Korean ramen for being too spicy
Large quantities of chili pose a risk

That may be true, but what about a small quantity of a potent chili? While I am not a fan of very spicy foods (quite mild if you don't mind) I think this is a waste of government resources and time. As long as the customer is clearly made aware the product they are purchasing is very spicy, that is enough.

It is definitely regional. I read in a book about grocery stores that the stores only stock about 10% of items that are uncommon for a given market area. Everything else is based on priory buying history, which is why you might find different items in different parts of the country for the same grocery brand; i.e. Kroger.
Ajay-p··on Tesla investors back $56B Musk pay deal
I think Musk should get the pay package. It's an obscene amount of money, but the shareholders voted for it, and it would be wrong for the court to stand in the way going forward.
Ajay-p··on Europe's biggest problem: It is falling way behind America's powerhouse economy
I thought the EU had solved a lot of this by unifying the markets.
Ajay-p··on Southwest Plane Plunged Within 400 Feet of Ocean Near Hawaii
I am ok with older Boeing airplanes. While I am skeptical of the company's current safety program, and attention to detail, I think the older planes - with many C checks done - are safe to fly. Something happened with the 737 Max, clearly a management decision, that increased risk or perhaps inattention to detail.

My opinion is that the company was run by bean counters instead of engineers, and the stock market convinced the business people that changing the way they made airplanes, made sense.

I don't trust the device, the maker, the company behind the facial recognition technology, and you. If I give software access to analyzing my face it opens the door to overt and covert acts that further erode my privacy.

But really, I don't need a reason other than I'm uncomfortable with it. I worry about people who are comfortable with it..

Ajay-p··on Please maintain eye contact for the duration of the ad
Maybe this is unrelated but I refuse to do facial ID, or any type of facial verification. I don't want my phone, or any device that I am using, to record or analyze my features. Maybe that is nit picking a little but I am uncomfortable with all of it.
Ajay-p··on Canada imposes 5% tax on streaming to fund local news, diverse content
Not enough pip movement.
Ajay-p··on Canada imposes 5% tax on streaming to fund local news, diverse content
Public funded news is a terrible idea because it's too easy to become corrupted by politics. This makes it easier for Netflix to raise prices, but it is what the people seem to want. Otherwise I guess we'll find out at the elections next year.

Ajay-p··on Extreme Climate Impacts from Collapse of AMOC Could Be Worse Than Expected
And then there's this on the front page of HN https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adh8369 which says that "Major disruption of the Atlantic overturning circulation (AOMC) is not expected"

Which is it?

Ajay-p··on Canadians are angry with their biggest supermarket
For greater insight into how grocery stores are run in America, I highly recommend the gripping book "The Secret Life of Groceries: The Dark Miracle of the American Supermarket" by Benjamin Lorr.

The author gets a job at Whole Foods and then works his way through the food chain, reporting every step of the way, and relating it back to what is seen and experienced at the store. Really excellent reporting IMO.

Ajay-p··on All individuals should be able to have and own their own domain names
For those who were just as mystified as I was when I clicked on the link:

The main goal of EU.org is to provide free subdomain registration to users or non-profit organizations who cannot afford the fees demanded by some NICs.

EU.org is not endorsed to any European Union initiative, but it's also not a TLD, only a subdomain.

How is this different from.. Geocities?

Ajay-p··on Super Heavy has splashed down in The Gulf of Mexico
Ever seen the incredible classic Moonraker? Larger satellites, larger rockets, it's about more at a lower cost. Bigger trucks, bigger ships, bigger lifters.
Ajay-p··on Super Heavy has splashed down in The Gulf of Mexico
I think it is the indelible human nature, to go the furthest we can because it's there. At first I didn't agree with going to Mars, but if you think of it as the furthest place we know we can land on, and explore, then it makes sense. If we can safely land, and return from Mars, then it makes going even further a possibility.

Ajay-p··on Dr Pepper is now as popular as Pepsi. It's still shrouded in mystery
"Worldwide, at least 2.8 million people die each year as a result of being overweight or obese, and an estimated 35.8 million (2.3%) of global DALYs are caused by overweight or obesity."

I miss Dublin Dr. Pepper made with real sugar. Sometimes Dr. Pepper will bring back the original but not often.

Biden did the same thing, it's a fertile ground for voters.
