2big2fail_47··on DeepSeek OCR
I find it interesting that there's all these independent AI-OCR Projects but still no commercial offering. Is it still too inaccurate, too complex or simply too expensive?
2big2fail_47··on Home galleries are hiding in plain sight across Canada
great analysis! thank you
2big2fail_47··on DJ With Apple Music launches to enable subscribers to mix their own sets
for that case i'd just go with plexamp and self-host the music.
2big2fail_47··on Show HN: Metacheck – preview how any link appears on social media and chat apps

2big2fail_47··on A Letter to the American People
I also got that from the subtext
2big2fail_47··on Watt The Fox?
why do you have a record player with bluetooth in the first place. isn't that against the very concept of an analogue medium?
2big2fail_47··on Show HN: Hacker News frontpage as a print newspaper that you can personalize
i think the nytimes landing page does a good job at looking and feeling like an analogue newspaper
2big2fail_47··on The lie of music discovery algorithms
Love NTS. Human-curated radio is still the best way to find new music :)
2big2fail_47··on A personal music streaming server that works
plexamp (in combination with tailscale) works very well :)
2big2fail_47··on A personal music streaming server that works
i use rsync from my itunes/music.app library to the smb synology drive that acts as my plexamp library. works very well :)
2big2fail_47··on A personal music streaming server that works
Whats the main advantages to plexamp? From what i can tell from the screenshots, the UI looks very clean.
2big2fail_47··on Nicotine patches as a possible treatment for long covid and me/cfs
Yeah it's a very small study. But there's a huge online community of long-covid and me/cfs sufferers (10k + people) who tried it out and report back in form of a facebook group. And there's actually quite a success rate. Which again is hard to quantify but nevertheless...
2big2fail_47··on Nicotine patches as a possible treatment for long covid and me/cfs
„In contrast to the well-known addictive potential linked to the chronic inhalation of nicotine, none of the trials could show a nicotine dependency after the withdrawal of transcutaneous nicotine application at the end of the investigations“
2big2fail_47··on The Vienna Secession: A History
still one of the best (if not THE best) places to discover contemporary art in vienna.
2big2fail_47··on No joke: FTC boss goes on the Daily Show and is told Apple tried to block her
Such a nice interview though. It's cool that something like this is happening on a mainstream platform like Jon Stwarts Daily Show
2big2fail_47··on Minimal phone gets back to basics with E Ink display and real keyboard
which is not a bad thing
2big2fail_47··on 93% of U.S. households' stock market wealth is held by the top 10%
what are you talking about
2big2fail_47··on macOS Sonoma is setting records for update size
Fully agree. I started to install the newest iOS & MacOS releases just before the next major version is being released. I'm always one version behind but kinda works well this way.
2big2fail_47··on Music-Map – Find Similar Music
haha nice tested with similar artists (eartheater, doon kanda, dean blunt...) :)) works really well. i'm impressed!
2big2fail_47··on Music-Map – Find Similar Music
Def. NTS-Radio Love it
2big2fail_47··on 26% of the top websites are now blocking GPTBot
fully agree. AI should cite and reference the material it's using
2big2fail_47··on macOS Sonoma is available today
Can confirm Rectangle works really well and consumes close to none ram or cpu. You can even disable it from the menu bar so it feels very native
2big2fail_47··on Index of Aesthetics
i can very recommend Mina Le:

2big2fail_47··on Ask HN: Are there any AI-enhanced solutions for converting PDFs to ePub?
Thanks. That sounds like a nice webapp. In my case it's easier to copy the text from the Mac Preview. Since M1 it does OCR quite well. This way I don't have to convert the pdf to png. Still i'd love a fully automated way.
2big2fail_47··on Johnny Decimal: A System to Organize Projects (2015)
i've been using an adopted version since about 6month now and it's actually works great. I really like that every file now has a specific place. I even transferred the concept to my offline documents and folders.
2big2fail_47··on Ask HN: Are there any AI-enhanced solutions for converting PDFs to ePub?
When the PDF is very clearly structured it's working just fine. But let's say the layout consists of multiple columns and complex formatting the output gets very imprecise. If the material is scanned it won't function at all.
2big2fail_47··on Index of Aesthetics
Very interesting, thank you! Do have more resources on that topic (not just the genx aesthetic but more in general)?
2big2fail_47··on Index of Aesthetics
i think it’s a super cool concept. my favourite aesthetic must be the Gen X Soft Club
2big2fail_47··on Alexandria: A minimalistic cross-platform eBook reader
does anyone know a good way to convert pdf's to epub. I tried calibre but the inconsistent formatting of pdf's make this really buggy. Is there any OCD / machine learning solution out there? :)
2big2fail_47··on Artists have forgotten how to draw
But that's exactly the point. Contemporary art is not about taste, it's about reflecting on the world we are living in. Economy, politics, technology...

Just look at artists like Simon Denny or Hito Steyerl
