1cvmask··on Bitcoin could become ‘worthless’, Bank of England warns
I wonder when and if they will pass an act outlawing or “regulating” bitcoin/crypto like that was passed for gold in 1934:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Reserve_Act

Hillary Clinton talks about how crypto is a threat to currencies and especially to the dollar as a reserve currency (minute 29:30):

1cvmask··on Apple removes references to CSAM from its child safety webpage
Let’s give all your data to governments under the guise of protecting children or against terrorists. It is like the John Jonik cartoon.

Maybe time to retire or go on early holiday.
1cvmask··on Rocket scientists and brain surgeons are NO smarter than you are, study claims
The test was composed of apparently:

Participants completed an online test to measure distinct aspects of intelligence, including planning and reasoning, working memory, attention and emotion processing.

The wights given to the categories is not certain. But emotion processing is probably an area they are lacking in which is why they chose those fields of study in the first place probably.

1cvmask··on Representative Cheney Reads Text Messages
Would she read the millions of texts of all the family members who got killed in the world she advocated?
1cvmask··on The battle of the computing clouds is intensifying
An article that regurgitates Gartner talking points is a tainted one to begin with. Gartner even famously said that Apple should quit the hardware business:

1cvmask··on Organizations Will Abandon Native Mobile Apps in Favor of Messaging by 2025
So Doordash, Amazon or Deliveroo or Wells Fargo will abandon their native mobile app to use FB messenger or Whatsapp??? This seems like their famous prediction that Apple should quit the hardware business.

This reminds of the prediction that the mobile web and HTML5 would kill native mobile apps as well.

1cvmask··on Is the subscription business model more ethical than ad-centric models?
You cancel ads by not going online. The subscription one is another matter all together if you forget.

1cvmask··on 90% of Bitcoin’s supply has been mined
What happens after 2140??

Excerpt:

As of Monday morning, 90% of the total bitcoin supply of 21 million has been mined, according to data from Blockchain.com.

The remainder is not expected to be mined until February 2140. Until then, miners can continue to earn bitcoins.

Bitcoin operates on a proof-of-work model, which means that miners must compete to solve complex math problems to validate transactions. It’s not an easy process — reaching the 90% milestone took 12 years.

1cvmask··on S.Korea to test AI-powered facial recognition to track Covid-19 cases
I assumed this already quite common everywhere by now. A Bay area based computer vision company is already providing this tech to many airports across the country and abroad. From what I know citizens have no rights to privacy or constitutional safeguards at the borders.

1cvmask··on Bird populations declining fast across North America
At first I thought it was the new conspiracy of the federal government replacing birds with drones:

1cvmask··on Kintsugi – Art of Repair
ESG is primarily an acronym for sustainability and not throwing away things:

Environmental, social and corporate governance

1cvmask··on Kintsugi – Art of Repair
ESG before it became a buzzword and fashionable. I know see ESG in so many pitch decks even.

I first learnt of Kintsugi from a ceramics artist. Truly fascinating.

Are there now more known hacks than crypto companies?

At one point there definitely was more hacks and scams than crypto exchanges.

1cvmask··on India's local 5G standard (5Gi) to be merged with the global 5G standard
This seems to be a case of industry versus academia, with industry quashing the sole academic option:

The COAI opposed the national standard, arguing that the 5Gi ecosystem is yet to be developed, validated and tested, and would result in technology fragmentation. In a series of letters to the telecom department, COAI said that any mandate to such standard may put the consumer at a burden since sufficient options are not available for device ecosystem, and would put an additional burden to telecom carriers that may lead to a further delay in rolling out 5G in the country.

On the other hand, the Indian academia, led by IIT Madras director Bhasker Ramamurthy, advocated that 5Gi standards should be made mandatory for Indian telecom service providers.

1cvmask··on Biometric expert shows an easy way to spoof fingerprint scanning devices
Biometrics are a convenient PIN replacement only. They are not a secret. They are not revokable. Once public the whole world has access to them. And oftentimes it is so easy to extract the biometric in question like the photo of the fingerprint of the German defense minister by the Computer Chaos Club.

1cvmask··on San Francisco parklets an insulting display of government incompetence
And yet they vote for the same incompetence time and time again. The SF political machine is more powerful than Tammany Hall ever was. An unresponsive corrupt machine that curries favor for the elite and connected with complete disregard for small businesses and individuals who are not politically connected. The definition of political virtue signaling is the SF political machine.

For some odd reason the rules never applied to the restaurant owned by Gavin Newsom, former mayor of SF and now Governor of California. Even the old smoking restrictions were off limits.

1cvmask··on Americans are rethinking where they want to live
People have always been on the move. The Dust Bowl led to the big recent migration to the west. Although the migration post covid from the Bay area is negligible in absolute terms compared to the total population versus the Twitter accounts of some famous tech and VC folk like Keith Rabois.
1cvmask··on Uber deactivated some transgender drivers' accounts for 'fraudulent' photos

1cvmask··on South Dakota teachers scramble for dollar bills in ‘demeaning’ game

1cvmask··on Apple is about to become the first $3T company
I used to find most stocks including Apple to be overvalued a long long time ago. Even when Apple was worth 500 billion. Thank god I never shorted a stock in my life. Would have probably lost my shirt especially with Tesla. This is despite the fact that I knew that the Fed printing money would lead to an asset price inflation.
1cvmask··on El Corte Inglés, Europe’s Biggest Department Store
