>Martians building a human zoo would give us room to walk and run and explore, materials to craft with, and other humans to connect to emotionally and physically.
Suppose the happiest humans in the zoo are the ones with an understanding of their relationship to the Martian zoo staff. The most content among them would know that appeasing the Martian zookeepers means more food, stuff to play with, and even more humans to enjoy. Those who try to oppose them or hide from them will have their efforts wasted - the Martian zookeepers effectively see and know all. Any human attempts at order will have to contend with the higher order of the Martian zookeepers. Being ignorant of the Martian zookeepers has it's own risks, as it would disconnect the captive humans from the true meaning of their own existence.
IMO a deeper source of depression among modern-day humans is linked to a similar existential crisis.
The cause of depression must be rooted out. Blending it in together with other stimuli is just diluting the poison, and that poison will corrupt other facets of your life. Drowning out the source of your depression is effectively the same as running away from and burying it, which can lead to self-destructive impulses that permeate the positive signals. Those impulses will leave people confused as to why they're in emotional turmoil even when engaging in things that should feel good.
Sorry if I've rained on your parade. It is good to feel good, but it is best to feel whole. That's what I want for people who suffer from depression.
Salinger's works are referenced frequently in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - I wonder if the word choice here is a reference to that series.
Don't think that your careful wording around "people died defending" helps conceal the reach you're making. ONE "defending" police officer died of a heart attack - no court of law would hold someone responsible for a death like that. The three other deaths were pro-Trump protesters fighting for a fair election. I watched members of a certain political party mock the deaths of Trump supporters while they happened live on January 6th - who was it you were saying wanted the US to be more like Saudi Arabia?
One might argue that incompetent people are cynical because, without the insulation and support structures that foster education, they are more attuned with the one true cynical reality of the world.
Another might argue that incompetent people are cynical because, without sufficient intellectual capacity, they are susceptible to false ideas concerning the one true non-cynical reality of the world.
The hopelessness and hopefulness of reality can be endlessly debated, but ultimately, it's up to the individual to choose which of these to put their faith in. I agree that that an overall cynical view could be an adaptation to defend against the threat of being taken advantage of. One should weigh this against whether or not such a worldview truly works in your favor. Amazing advances have been made in this world over the past few centuries, and I can't accept the notion that these come about through cynicism rather than hope for the future.
Holding a position that rejects human progress requires one to believe that good is ultimately insignificant. Judging by the increasing suicide rates of young people, this seems to be a modern problem, and so perhaps the solution can be found if we look towards the traditions that have unified humanity in the past.

I wish they had been more successful. Baikal was one of the few (the only?) CPU makers willing to put ECC RAM into Desktop-class hardware[0]. If only they had taken off... as a whole, this would have been a positive shift for the industry.

Interesting work & I wish him luck. The ability to use hardware SSH certs on Windows has been around for at least a decade now, but it hasn't been a seamless experience.
The other attempt I'm aware of is PuTTY-CAC[0]. It is recommended[1] for security-conscious organizations, and approved for use at places like the US Department of Veteran Affairs[2]. Vendors[3] of smart cards also show some limited support for it.
The issue with PuTTY-CAC is that the server still needs to be configured to check the certificate against CRLs & PKI infrastructure. Over the past decade, I believe Red Hat has made some significant progress towards a workable solution[4], however, I have no experience with it.

Perhaps it is the use of teflon-coated rice cookers that is higher among Asians. Chinese/Korean grocery stores have high-end automatic rice cookers for sale, and all of them have layers of non-stick coating around the metal cooking insert that are much thicker than what you find on the average non-stick pan.
>Findlargedir is a tool specifically written to help quickly identify "black hole" directories on an any filesystem having more than 100k entries in a single flat structure. When a directory has many entries (directories or files), getting directory listing gets slower and slower, impacting performance of all processes attempting to get a directory listing (for instance to delete some files and/or to find some specific files). Processes reading large directory inodes get frozen while doing so and end up in the uninterruptible sleep ("D" state) for longer and longer periods of time. Depending on the filesystem, this might start to become visible with 100k entries and starts being a very noticeable performance impact with 1M+ entries.
>Such directories mostly cannot shrink back even if content gets cleaned up due to the fact that most Linux and Un*x filesystems do not support directory inode shrinking (for instance very common ext3/ext4). This often happens with forgotten Web sessions directory (PHP sessions folder where GC interval was configured to several days), various cache folders (CMS compiled templates and caches), POSIX filesystem emulating object storage, etc.

Using this CLI tool to simulate conversations between different historical philosophers might be insightful in addition to a amusing.
One possible angle was that Barbie's fantasy world is a product of a post-nuclear USA. I thought that maybe there was no Japanese love for this period in American history, but apparently, I was wrong:

Although I suppose it's possible that opinions have changed since those times. Personally I don't really have any direct exposure to Japan, but I see the anti-American sentiment in works by some of my favorite people in their animation industry (Shirow Masamune, Kenji Kamiyama, Hayao Miyazaki).
