111111101101··on SEC asks for emergency order to freeze Binance US assets anywhere in the world
Crypto made a mockery of the authorities and their war on drugs. A bad idea lol? No, it started a revolution.
111111101101··on GPT-4 Outperforms Elite Crowdworkers, Saving Researchers $500k and 20k hours
I'm not so sure about that. I mean, maybe not since the Snowden leaks but how do we know that governments haven't been running their own LLMs for the last five years or so? We know that they're using sockpuppets[1]. We know that they're astroturfing[2]. Integrating LLMs into their toolkits seems like an obvious move, so obvious that they would be stupid not to do it.

111111101101··on $3.3B of the ~$40 billion of USDC reserves remain at SVB
I would add one exception - religion. Having the big pay day come after death means that the fraud can never be uncovered.
111111101101··on $3.3B of the ~$40 billion of USDC reserves remain at SVB
That's the thing about frauds. They look really good until all of a sudden, they don't.
111111101101··on ChatGPT get-rich-quick schemes are coming for magazines, Amazon, and YouTube
America is relatively unique in that its culture celebrates "coaching" which is the angle that many of these get-rich-quick schemes take. I guess that it might be related to the sports centric high school education that many (most?) Americans experience.

eBay outsource their customer service to Filipino workers.
111111101101··on I created an eBay account and bought an item, today I got indefinitely suspended
No, it's because if the specific details were included then the posters would be doxing themselves. It's very easy to lookup sold listings on eBay.

111111101101··on Ask HN: Dealing with ADHD Without Medication?
Ritalin is readily available on the darknet. Not that I would advise anyone to do anything illegal! I'm sure these kind therapists have our best interests at heart and they're not just gatekeeping in order to profit from molecules they played no part in creating...
111111101101··on MDMA and psilocybin are approved as medicines in Australia
I keep hearing this but surely if you presented your prescription in court the charges would be dropped? In my experience, magistrates are usually very reasonable. Police on the other hand...
111111101101··on 80/20 Aluminum T-slot Building Systems – Build your Idea
I thought it was an Australia thing but yes, $1.50 pipes and $3 fittings are the norm here too. Fortunately, you can 3d print fittings which opens up all sorts of possibilities that don't really make sense for use in plumbing.

111111101101··on Sharing Your Netflix Account
My system is 100% automated. Sonarr + Radarr + Prowlarr + Deluge + SABnzdb FTW.

I stuck to using torrents for years but about 6 months ago I switched to Usenet and the $10 p/m for the Usenet provider and $30/year for an indexer is definitely worth the money. Now instead of having hundreds of seedless torrents in my queue, my system downloads even the most obscure media at a speed that completely saturates my connection.

111111101101··on FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried to be released on $250M bail
People say this kind of thing all the time but I'm yet to see an internet scammer get their comeuppance. That includes people who have been identified after running exit scamming darknet markets. My guess would be that when it comes to online fraud, people are more willing to swallow it because it doesn't seem so real.
111111101101··on The Rise of Sleep Tourism
Here's a proper sleep tourism idea that I had a few years ago:

Going on a long international flight? Well fly with Cloud 9 and our trained anesthetists will put you to sleep before your journey so that you can wake up at your destination, seemingly instantly. Because we don't have to worry about our passengers moving about, we can stack them vertically and pass the savings on to you.

111111101101··on Air Force, FBI raid homes in probe of Area 51 website
Most likely. As someone who was deep into the hacking and phreaking worlds when I was a kid, I've often thought that I would have had a better career if I'd been busted for some of the hundreds of crimes that I committed as a child.

111111101101··on Wii U Architecture
I always thought that the name was the cause. I don't follow Nintendo very closely so when I heard about the Wii U I just assumed it was a slightly enhanced Wii, not a separate console.
111111101101··on PayPal restores to its TOS $2,500 charge for any post they don't like
It's a lot easier to get a refund on PayPal than a real bank. The one time that I did a charge-back on my credit card, my bank gave me the 3rd degree and made me feel like I was the criminal.

You're right about PayPal helping themselves to bank debits. I have a small eBay business and back when they dealt directly with PayPal, I would have a separate account to receive the funds and as soon as they hit I would transfer the money out. It's just part of the OPSEC that's required when dealing with our new megacorp overlords.

111111101101··on PayPal restores to its TOS $2,500 charge for any post they don't like
I prefer to use PayPal to pay at random sites just because I'd rather not give my credit card number to a site that could be backdoored or even run by fraudsters.

111111101101··on An unidentified illicit drug has been discovered by Australian chemists
Except for Kava which has recently been legalised. There's even a Kava company listed on the ASX! It just goes to show that when money talks, politicians listen.

111111101101··on Tether ordered to produce documents showing backing of USDT [pdf]
Or maybe it's just the most brilliant scam to ever be conceived? A ponzy scheme with a built-in rinse and repeat function that also put the final nail in the coffin of the war on drugs. Scam or not, it was a revolutionary idea which was executed perfectly.
111111101101··on Twitch finally takes action against gambling
There are casinos aimed at children but instead of playing for money they play for game skins which can be sold for money.

I think that Stake make their own games. Or at least a company owned by the same people as Stake makes the games.

From https://www.smh.com.au/business/markets/the-secret-australia...

> In 2016, the pair set up Easygo which focused on developing games for online casinos and helped build Stake.com into an online casino powerhouse.

That's what I thought about MtGox. How wrong I was.
