Probably.
Wikipedia is an ok MMORPG but a failure as a reliable repository of useful knowledge.
"....Another editor cheerfully tutored me in what this means: "Wikipedia is not 'truth,' Wikipedia is 'verifiability' of reliable sources. Hence, if most secondary sources which are taken as reliable happen to repeat a flawed account or description of something, Wikipedia will echo that." http://chronicle.com/article/The-Undue-Weight-of-Truth-on/13...
I'be had discussions with subreddit moderators and reddit admins. The majority of them dislike my political opinions, thus the active censorship.
To restate my point: reddit has been actively deleting unpopular political opinion long before they thought about restricting kiddie porn.
That kind of prioritizing is what's been instrumental in the herd of geniuses that now inhabit reddit.
Agreed. Equating free speech with the ability to trade in sexual images of children is about the low-water mark for political philosophy applied to communications tech.
All that being said, I miss the pre-AOL usenet.
Probably in the same place as the liquid fluoride thorium reactors.
The below article was deleted from the queue in r/politics and I've been unable to post articles in politics and a few other subreddits ever since, using a particular handle from a particular IP.
Ron Paul’s Challenge to the Left: http://dissidentvoice.org/2011/07/a-question-of-morality-ron...
My point stands: reddit has been complicit in silencing political opinion long before it began worrying about whether child porn should be allowed or not.
> Reddit is a private organization, and they don't have to give a damn about freedom of speech.
Agreed. They should stop acting like they care when they don't.
NNTP is still alive. : )
My point? Reddit began banning political opinion long before it banned kiddie porn. Reddit's admins don't give a damn about freedom of speech and opinion.
Speaking as an interested outside observer, my opinion is that the personal connections between a few of these subreddit owners and reddit's admins were a stumbling block. Business and PR is now overwhelming those friendships.
Tesla Plunges After Morgan Stanley Reduces Automaker’s Price Target by 37%

As Morgan said, "If anyone can draw on the power, where do we put the meter?" Tesla's mistake, as brilliant as he was, was his inability or unwillingness to see how the Dogs of Money keep all the good scraps for themselves. I know many brilliant people today with the same difficulty.
I have no more interest in monetizing my connections for the benefit of a small group of people I don't even like or respect.
Every government, legitimate or not, has the power to decree who may or may not enter the country.
There's a huge difference between a power and a right.
Except that Hollywood is making more money than ever.
This is about cultural hegemony and economic gatekeepers. Please don't be deluded into thinking it's about law.
"Today I urge everyone to make sure that the entertainment industry does not profit from them anymore. Stop seeing their movies. Stop listening to their music. Make sure that you find alternative ways to culture. I’ve founded Flattr.com, which allows you to support people that create directly instead of going through the corrupt entertainment industry. Use it in solidarity to the creators, and to your fellow citizen. Or start a competitor. Spread and participate in culture. Remix, reuse, use, abuse. Make sure noone controls your mind. Create new systems and technology that circumvent the corruption. Start a religion. Start your own nation, or buy one. Buy a bus. Crush it to pieces.
Always act with intent and maintain hardline kopimi."
This is akin to Metallica's BS move regarding tapers after gaining their position because of tapers. You can't ever really trust people that forget where they come from.
I'm an artist, a musician to be precise. I've done ok for myself without Hollywood. I've known many artists that have been wrecked by Hollywood's promises of wealth and fame, far more than have benefited from it.
Hollywood needs to die and let the next model(s) of the marriage of art and business thrive. I actually envy the younger generation of musicians that have been raised to think of producing and distributing their own work rather than depend on a larger, centralized entity for their livelihoods.
"Anonymous" is so handy, if they didn't exist the government would just have to invent them.
I prefer the word "synarchism", as used by Fairbank and King:
