zotz··on Nikola Tesla Wasn't God And Thomas Edison Wasn't The Devil
> Frankly I doubt Morgan ever explained his real reasoning to any journalists or authors

The proof is in the pudding, imo. Morgan also backed Edison's company (Edison General Electric, which later became General Electric). Morgan, via Edison, was going for ownership of the new electrical grid that was growing in the US 100+ years ago.

There's no way Morgan would ever allow Tesla's work with wireless to gain any traction in his lifetime.

The discussion was about wireless transmission of power. It was stated that it was impossible. It's a reality.

I'm refraining from further conversation. Good evening.

The claim was that wireless is "junk". Soljačić proved it's not.

Marin Soljačić might disagree.

You've read enough of Tesla's diaries to know that?

"If Edison had a needle to find in a haystack, he would proceed at once with the diligence of the bee to examine straw after straw until he found the object of his search. ... I was a sorry witness of such doings, knowing that a little theory and calculation would have saved him ninety per cent of his labor." -Tesla
zotz··on Nikola Tesla Wasn't God And Thomas Edison Wasn't The Devil
Tesla was far smarter than Edison was. Tesla's biggest mistake was allowing himself to work for JP Morgan. Morgan didn't want that wireless junk ("Where do you put the meter?") and was happy to let Tesla work himself into obscurity while the metered, wired system we know today was put into place.

Tesla became aware of the position he had placed himself in and his work became focused on leaving his research to us, the future. I hope we listen because he knew what he was doing.

Tesla used to work for Edison.

Security and its abuses, in all forms, should always be of interest at a place called Hacker News.

I must disagree. Altucher belongs on HN.

"I do this with all sincerity. I priced the book as little as I could (99 cents) and it’s even free for Amazon Prime members. Any meager money I make on this will be donated to whatever foundation I can find that can keep people from going to college. Nothing in my career has anything to do with this. It did not help me in any way to spend 100s of hours getting this book ready and available to you and your children.

I am shamed by the indentured servitude that our 22 years olds find themselves in when they graduate. Student loan debt just topped a trillion dollars for the first time. I am ashamed by an America that let this happen. I describe in the book the groups who benefit from that trillion dollars. They don’t care about 18 year olds. They care about their own egos. They care about money."

zotz··on Sociopathy Is Running the US - Part Two
Up until recently, us non-sociopaths used to have a little more recourse, in the US anyway.

The past ten years have changed all that. Very little wiggle room to escape them conventionally anymore. We have to resort to more and more extreme means to be able to find some small escape from them. That's why I no longer use commercial airlines, for instance.

zotz··on Facebook supports horrible proposed Internet bill CISPA
The vagueness of this bill IS the problem. Vagueness in the law makes for really bad laws.

Give me one reason I should support this bill.

zotz··on Facebook supports horrible proposed Internet bill CISPA
If one is a fan of the National Security State, this is a great bill. For the rest of us, not so much.

https://www.cdt.org/blogs/greg-nojeim/112cyber-intelligence-... :

- The bill has a very broad, almost unlimited definition of the information that can be shared with government agencies notwithstanding privacy and other laws;

- The bill is likely to lead to expansion of the government’s role in the monitoring of private communications as a result of this sharing;

- It is likely to shift control of government cybersecurity efforts from civilian agencies to the military;

- Once the information is shared with the government, it wouldn’t have to be used for cybersecurity, but could instead be used for any purpose that is not specifically prohibited.

P2P is here to stay. RIAA and MPAA aren't.

It's not a destruction of property rights. It's the beginning of something new for people that make a living creating things people like to hear and watch.

Speaking as a musician who has had dealings with the RIAA, I won't miss them even one little bit.
