z3n0n··on OpenLogi
it's pretty much "load bearing" at this point.
z3n0n··on Make Your Own Spotify, with Blackjack and Hookers
thanks! I have samba running on my dietpi. When picard saves -> staging folder -> dietpi. done. EDIT: not fully automated yet, because picard needs manual intervention at times (classification mix-ups), but pretty pain-free overall.
z3n0n··on Imapsync
bought this a few years back to handle some cpanel imap <-> Gmail sync. Simply gets the job done. No nonsense tool that makes do without overhyped promo and flashy website, a rare breed these days. Highly recommended.
z3n0n··on US and UK refuse to sign AI safety declaration at summit
entertaining podcast about all this "rationalist" weirdness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e57oo7AgrJY
z3n0n··on Firing programmers for AI is a mistake
Been heavily testing Cursor, Windsurf and VSCode w/CP lately. Most low level stuff works surprisingly well. But for anything slightly more complex I just end up wasting 90% credits watching the AI chase its own tail.
z3n0n··on DeaDBeeF: The Ultimate Music Player
My favorite Linux one these days: Gapless. (simple but beautiful) https://flathub.org/apps/com.github.neithern.g4music
z3n0n··on Storytelling lessons I learned from Steve Jobs (2022)
Pet peeve: I hate how the term “storytelling” is being used in marketing. No you are not “telling a story”, you are selling fucking shampoo and paper clips. The real art of storytelling in a literary sense has absolutely nada, zilch to do with this stupid framing of promotional language. Pray tell, does good literature “solve problems”? No it fucking doesn’t. In fact, one of the first rules of fiction is to always create more problems to move the tension along. It’s what makes a story interesting. So yeah, you’re just slimy advertisers, stop having Shakespearean allures.

might wanna look into yabai: https://github.com/koekeishiya/yabai
z3n0n··on Europe's Banks Launch Wero Payments to Dislodge Visa, Mastercard
Literally every bank to bank transfer in Europe? Edit: apparently there are some complexities https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_Euro_Payments_Area (sees Charges) but personally I've never paid a single cent either
z3n0n··on PHP in 2024
One (hacky) way to learn is to just install WordPress (apparently not fashionable these days, but I love it) and start messing around with the PHP in theme files. Turn on error reporting and just start breaking things.
z3n0n··on Veloren, an open source game, release 0.16
Wow, this is fun!
z3n0n··on Ask HN: What non-AI products are you working on?
Thanks! I'd say it depends a bit on your mother-tongue and general sense for languages, but yes, this is based on a very intuitive approach to language learning where you infer meaning from context, and even absolute beginners should be able to pick up some basic phrases.
z3n0n··on Ask HN: What non-AI products are you working on?
Been working on making learning German just a little bit more fun with interactive stories: https://learnoutlive.com/stories/
z3n0n··on Why do east Asian firms value drinking?
As a German-Israeli, both of which are extremely direct cultures (in different ways), I feel there’s a lot of “dancing around” in American communication culture that seems silly.
z3n0n··on LinguaCafe: Self-hosted software for language learners to read foreign languages
Looks really promising! Well done. Would love to host an installation for our local learning community. Hopefully we’ll get multiple user accounts soon.
