ypeterholmes··on The lifecycle of a code AI completion
Fantastic article and impressive work by this company. They're basically wrapping LLM's with a working memory, and tying it to user input. And thus we step a little closer to AGI/ASI.
ypeterholmes··on Evolving the Infinite Canvas
The feature is pretty easy to use- at what point do we just accept that some people shouldn't be using the tool? If we always design for the least capable user, we will be unnecessarily handcuffing ourselves.
ypeterholmes··on Is AI the next crypto? Insights from HN comments
As if money was going to be replaced overnight? The amount of stablecoin and CBDC and blockchain activity in general is massive. I frankly don't understand people who think the tech has no use case. It flies in the face of existing adoption, and also imposes an unrealistic assumption of how fast the entire world was going to change.
ypeterholmes··on Lab leak fight casts chill over virology research
That's what happens when you release an endemic virus that kills millions of people.
ypeterholmes··on Driver hits woman in SF, then Cruise driverless car runs her over
Note that I was being sarcastic. The headline was extremely misleading, to the point of propaganda. I'm not actually saying it should be illegal- lying is legal.

ypeterholmes··on Personalized learning can feel isolating. Whole class learning can feel personal
What about all the tutorials online that have taught countless people countless skills? Did that just never happen?

If I understand, the core argument in this article is that there is a social layer of learning. And that's probably true to an extent, but how does that completely dismiss the value of self-directed learning?

ypeterholmes··on Kansas police chief who led the raid on the Marion County Record has resigned
Now arrest him.
ypeterholmes··on Driver hits woman in SF, then Cruise driverless car runs her over
This headline should be illegal.
ypeterholmes··on How China's “debt traps” work
They ended up with ownership of a port and a lot more though. The point of the article is that they are being short-sighted by angering everyone, but you saying that they did the opposite of predatory lending is wrong. It was absolutely predatory lending, just not well executed.
ypeterholmes··on What will LLM-powered software look like in the medium-term future?
I write on Medium and there's no paywall. The paywall is a choice to monetize.
ypeterholmes··on Barstool built an empire by swiping sports highlights
Reposting from burner accounts is illegal, but also kinda smart. This is hustle culture in a nutshell, and Trump is their messiah.
ypeterholmes··on A protein that disrupts cells’ energy centers may be a culprit in CFS/ME
There was also a study out of Yale showing effectiveness with a combination of guanfacine and N-acetylcysteine (NAC), an anti-oxidant also used for the treatment of TBI.

ypeterholmes··on Why is c the symbol for the speed of light? (1997)
Yes. Although the beginning quote is immediately contradicted by the short answer. So that was confusing.
ypeterholmes··on The Conscious Computer
I wrote this in case anyone wants to ask questions. Thanks!
ypeterholmes··on Instagram Threads: The problem with the “everything for everyone” approach
Twitter has the same "problem" but has been wildly successful... The odd thing about twitter is that nobody could ever figure out what is really was. Still haven't.
ypeterholmes··on Threads isn’t for news and politics, says Instagram’s boss
Good luck policing what people decide to talk about...
ypeterholmes··on Making Figma better for developers with Dev Mode
Hi Emil. My question is about the prototyping. The proto tooling is improving but still pretty limited. Right now the approach seems somewhat disjointed, meaning some interactions utilize variants for state change, while others work across frames with the "onclick" interaction. But that could get really messy as this grows. Question: have you considered using a "dynamic panel" approach similar to what Axure does? That model was my favorite among the proto leaders.
ypeterholmes··on The greatest risk of AI is from the people who control it, not the tech itself
"The history of technology to date suggests that..."

This logic fails because we have never had something quite like AI.

ypeterholmes··on Kissinger's killing fields
He's the Wembanyama of the afterlife draft- devil is salivating.
ypeterholmes··on The Offshore Networks of Oligarchs
The premise here is very solid- shut down the small number of people that the Oligarchs depend on, and their ability to operate is curtailed much more effectively than trying to attack the oligarchs directly.
ypeterholmes··on IRS builds task force to explore running its own free e-file system
The government should send everyone an itemized bill that you can correct. The idea that we have to figure it out ourselves is unnecessary and has created significant emotional/financial pain and an entire cottage industry of nonsense. Of course when this was being piloted, guess who paid to squash it? The cottage industry.
ypeterholmes··on Ask HN: Something you’ve done your whole life that you realized is wrong?
For me wearing superfeet inserts completely fixed my knee pain.
ypeterholmes··on Why I'm less than infinitely hostile to cryptocurrency
Fantastic piece. The space program analogy is particularly apt. People say crypto is a worse way to replace functions that already exist, like the space program inventing a pen, say. But the fact the pen can work in space is actually rather important. The fact that decentralized systems can't be shut down or centrally manipulated, is also rather important.
ypeterholmes··on Huawei phones automatically deleting videos of the protests?
I built an iOS app for location-based sharing that that nobody uses lol. But it works in China too. So if anyone knows anyone over there, send them this:

ypeterholmes··on School of Haskell: Basics (2013)
That's what they used to say about the internet. But maybe, just maybe a layer of verifiable truth that disintermediates the need to "trust" someone could be useful?

Looks out at SBF, Liz Holmes, Voting Controversies, etc.

Nahhhh, this is working well!

ypeterholmes··on School of Haskell: Basics (2013)
Quite a few well capitalized projects launching on the Cardano blockchain looking for Haskell devs right now.
ypeterholmes··on Big data is at least four different problems (2015) [video]
Thank you for parsing out this data
ypeterholmes··on There are only five media stories
Given the conclusion of building something new- I actually did. I built an app for posting based on location to boost local communities: https://radiusreport.news/
ypeterholmes··on Can brown noise turn off your brain?
Glad to see more attention being paid to the psychological impacts of noise. Our cities are full of noise pollution- car alarms, motorcycles with tricked engines, the list goes on. These things are detrimental to health.
