yosef123··on The Google Play app review process now regularly takes longer than a week
And what do windows / linux / macos do about apps getting hacked to billions of pc's simultaneously? How is that a new problem?
yosef123··on Did Meta's Big Settlement Actually Help It?
Still, even in the examples given, cars allow you to drive fast, but you can still sue a car manufacturer if they sells cars without airbags and a seatbelt. Doritos can make you fat, but you can still sue Frito Lay if they put overly addictive and harmful chemicals to keep customers coming back. Isn't this the same?
yosef123··on Show HN: Performative-UI – A react component library of design tropes
This needs an additional subscriptions service tier, that's even more performative and even more AI
yosef123··on Make some art with your phone sensors
I did NOT know the motion sensors on my phone were THIS precise, that’s surprising
yosef123··on The economics of software teams: Why most engineering orgs are flying blind
You can spend a lot of time perfecting the test suite to meet your specific requirements and needs, but I think that would take quite a while, and at that point, why not just write the code yourself? I think the most viable approach of today's AI is still to let it code and steer it when it makes a decision you don't like, as it goes along.
yosef123··on Show HN: Tusk for macOS and Gnome
Had the same thought, I can suggest JetBrains Datagrip (paid software), works really well for me
yosef123··on Dead Internet Theory
As much as many are against it, couldn't this be yet another argument for social network wide digital identity verification? I think that this is an argument that holds: to avoid AI slop / bots → require government ID
yosef123··on OpenAI Set to Challenge Google with New ChatGPT Atlas Browser
This reply is actually so funny lmao. But yeah, agreed
yosef123··on Apple typewriter memo (2020)
Personally, I don’t see this move as a negative. It implies that a company believes in its product and potentially wants to improve it. Usually, you can tell when a product is not used by its creator(s), and it’s not a good experience.
yosef123··on AnimeJs v4 Is Here
Don’t want to sound repetitive, but yes
yosef123··on The State of Vim
Strange, this is the first time hearing Treesitter is slow. From experience, Treesitter has been incredibly fast for me (when running its core functions). I’m not discrediting your observation, but it might be something else in the pipeline.
yosef123··on Guide to mechanical keyboards
That is true, however, one thing to keep in mind, is that these tools like Via / Vial, will always be limited compared to a fully fledged programming language like C with and its QMK framework. Something that I only realized after the fact.
yosef123··on Apex Legends is taking away its support for the Steam Deck and Linux
Wall hacks might be funny, but when you get killed on sight in .25 sec it’s not so fun anymore…
yosef123··on Ask HN: I want to create IMDB for open source projects
Something like https://www.opensourcealternative.to/ ?
yosef123··on Saving cloud costs by writing our own database
I doubt he meant « two engineers full time », I suspect it’s more like a role of maintaining / improving when necessary.
yosef123··on Show HN: macOS Reminder Sync for Obsidian Tasks
For anyone looking for a simple markdown editor (nothing more), I would recommend Typora. It's closed source, and the plugin system is lacking, but it gets the essentials basically perfect.
yosef123··on Scammed by the top result for 'Bitcoin wallet' in Apple App Store
So much for Apple "security"
yosef123··on A coder considers the waning days of the craft
Just like the author suggests, sometimes you have to tailor your question to ChatGPT, for it to succeed.
yosef123··on Forty years of programming
It’s crazy to think that even a rock climber can suffer from RSI. Goes to show it can happen to anyone.
yosef123··on I got robbed of my first kernel contribution
It doesn't matter what the intent behind the fix is, even if it is 100% for personal gain. In my opinion, it should be treated fairly, like any other commit and given credit where credit is due.
yosef123··on PyCharm 2023.1
I don't mind the changes
yosef123··on Apple doesn’t want you developing hobby apps
I meant installing 3rd party apps through other means than the app store
yosef123··on Apple doesn’t want you developing hobby apps
They do this to discourage users from installing 3rd party apps. I know it is still greedy, but that's the reasoning behind it.
yosef123··on Supporting the use of Rust in the Chromium project
Like Kotlin? Can you please elaborate?
yosef123··on Exception Patterns (2013)
I agree, this also breaks the reader feature on iOS
yosef123··on Atlas OS: A Windows version designed for gamers
For anyone not interested in installing foreign OS, I like to use Chris Titus' tweaks. https://christitus.com/windows-tool/
yosef123··on Affinity 2
Great value indeed
yosef123··on Nobody wants touch-screen glove box latches
The reason they do this is simple, money. It is much easier for a manufacturer to produce a single screen that contains all the functionality that can be adjusted on the fly using software. The alternative (and the way it has always been) is early in a car conception, to design the cabin with the buttons layout, design the switches, find a manufacturer, test the switches, test the layout, repeat, etc… Plus if they find a flaw in the cars button design / layout late in the process, it becomes even more expensive to fix. Nowadays, car companies have an excuse to use screens, not only does it save them money, but they can disguise it under « modernism ».

Disclaimer, this is from what I heard and using common sense, but in might be completely wrong.

yosef123··on Android 12 forces you to choose a default browser unless you disable Chrome
This has been happening for a while, my solution was to disable google chrome, and install chrome beta instead just to have a "chrome"
yosef123··on Why is it difficult for developers to learn another programming language? (2020)
It isn't necessarily difficult, but one of the aspects that makes it challenging is the lack of resources to learn a new language from the POINT OF VIEW of a programmer. When learning a new language I don't need to go through all the basics again like, if statements, loop types or variables, it just makes learning tedious, and I can't just skip that part, or I might miss out on nuances of the language. Again, tedious, not difficult.
