yonibot··on AI helps ship faster but it produces 1.7× more bugs
How useful is this metric if we don't know which LLM produced each MR?

There could be massive differences in quality between LLMs.

yonibot··on Standing desks may be bad for your health, study suggests
I’m not convinced by this study at all. I’d like to know whether the risk of circulation-related issues was more applicable to people already at risk for those issues. I use a standing desk almost daily and it’s really alleviated my spinal issues, along with making me feel more energised throughout the day.
yonibot··on Pixel 8 Pro
Safari for iOS also has adblockers
yonibot··on Israeli startups are moving jobs and money out of the country
The country is neither fascist nor a dictatorship.

However, the legal overhaul does curtail the court's ability to assert a more libertarian, liberal agenda. The government is pushing a religious agenda that will change the nature of the country, and that causes significant consternation to the largely secular population that makes up the hi-tech nation.

yonibot··on Ask HN: Why did the Turks re-elect Erdogan given his interest rate policy?
The foreign actor point is a good one. But I’m still confused as to why right wing nationalists would not have gotten the information from the internet that Erdogan’s policies are destroying their economy. Is his voter base largely less educated?
yonibot··on The lost art of stovetop coffee roasting
Is it not an ad, just a short piece I wrote on coffee roasting.
yonibot··on Time-restricted eating reshapes gene expression throughout the body
N=1 and also probably too many variables to learn from this - keto itself is already a massive lifestyle intervention. Did you restrict calories as well? Exercise?
yonibot··on Diabetes drug leads to notable weight loss in people with obesity – study
That would be true of any medication, so long as the laws of thermodynamics remain true
yonibot··on Fire Ants Form Rafts (2017)
loved this - thanks for sharing!
yonibot··on I'm Peter Roberts, immigration attorney who does work for YC and startups. AMA
I’m a Canadian software engineer but my degree is in law (I’m a self-taught developer). Do people in my situation manage to get H1B or TN visas despite not having a technical degree?

Thanks a lot!

yonibot··on Blood pressure drugs could prevent type 2 diabetes
Can someone explain why this would be the case?

I could understand lifestyle changes causing a reduction in both, but not why reducing blood pressure via medication would reduce T2 risk.

yonibot··on I live alone at sea. Here's how to be happy in isolation
I kind of feel like people romanticize isolation these days. Human relationships can be challenging but can also provide immense benefits for human development and wellbeing.
yonibot··on Berkshire sold $390M worth of Delta and Southwest shares this week
Can't imagine dividends have much importance for Berkshire - they'd rather money be re-invested in the business as a rule.
yonibot··on United Airlines Borrows $2B
If the situation doesn't improve by March 2021, they will be up the creek.
yonibot··on Hippy: React Native Alternative by Tencent
Looks like they haven't put up much documentation yet - hard to say what this is really.

How do you work with different platforms? How does the performance compare to React Native? Can we see examples? What APIs exist to access native functionalities? How complete is the Flex implementation?

yonibot··on I interviewed at six top companies in Silicon Valley in six days
This is correct.
yonibot··on Can you predict a recession by looking at pregnancy rates?
Anyone know what kind of data is publicly available on pregnancy rates?
yonibot··on Ask HN: Best platform for creating an online course?
Thanks, they seem to have strong pre-sales support.
yonibot··on Ask HN: What was your best passive income in 2016?
Nice blog, but watch out for advising people that putting money in index funds 'pretty much assumes an 8% return'. Returns can vary wildly year by year even if 7-9% annual is accurate over the last 20-30 years or so. Bogle (and others) is estimating the coming year's returns to be lower than 7.
yonibot··on Ask HN: What was your best passive income in 2016?
Nice to hear :)
yonibot··on Ask HN: What was your best passive income in 2016?
This book taught me the fundamentals of passive investing (https://www.amazon.com/Random-Walk-Down-Wall-Street/dp/03933...) and this website is THE online community for Bogle-style, passive investors (https://www.bogleheads.org/), once you understand the basics.
yonibot··on Ask HN: Any good resources for finding software jobs abroad?
Any advice on landing remote freelance gigs? I assume you don't use lowest-common-denominator sites like eLance.
yonibot··on Carl Icahn is Betting on a Stock Market Crash
To badly paraphrase the words of Jack Bogle - "I don't know anyone who can successfully time the market, and I don't know anyone who knows anyone who can either."
yonibot··on Google Calendar for Android: Find a time for my meeting
Am I the only one concerned about privacy implications here?

Google is revealing private calendar data without any ability to control what is shared and what is not. This is another example of sacrificing personal privacy for a "cool feature". No thanks!

yonibot··on Ask HN: How did you learn about stocks and the market?
This was my intro as well, and I've already recommended it to a number of people.

Malkiel believes in investing over gambling/speculating. That means trying to obtain market returns rather than trying to beat it, using very-low-cost funds like those offered by Vanguard. A great place to read more about this philosophy, when you finish Random Walk, is the Boglehead's forum.

yonibot··on Why I Wear the Exact Same Thing to Work Every Day
Curious what kind of things you found intriguing about this article.
yonibot··on Rongorongo: The Ancient Easter Island Alphabet That Has Never Been Deciphered
I think this alphabet (or proto-alphabet) is exceptionally beautiful, with its representations of sea creatures, flora, and objects.
yonibot··on Show HN: The Xing Framework, Rails API and Angular, Simplified
Interesting (unusual?) choice of a hypermedia API structure. Were you having a lot of issues with RESTful APIs?
yonibot··on The Rich Are Already Using Robo-Advisers, and That Scares Banks
Rebalancing does not necessarily require selling shares - a different strategy is to rebalance at the same time that you want to add money to your portfolio by buying the shares necessarily for rebalancing. This would prevent the taxable event of selling.
yonibot··on Ask HN: Is java technology not suited for web based applications?
I think you will find Java less often among startups because initial development can take longer, and startups are often strapped for cash. Some companies eventually switch to the JVM (Java, Scala, etc.) for performance reasons, and many don't. I personally have never worked as a Java developer, so take this with many grains of salt.
