yeahsure··on What Bitcoin Reveals About Financial Markets
Agreed. It's not hard to see that the fear of regulation/bans has a direct relation with Bitcoin's price, which means it's not a completely unregulated free market and thus hardly proof that free markets don't work.

He also seems to disregard other cryptos which can easily be used for regular transactions with low fees.

Just a bad article really.

EDIT: Just realized this was submitted by "Bitcoin_McPonzi", so I doubt they would care about the article's accurate depiction of Bitcoin.

yeahsure··on Decline of Rural Lending Crimps Small-Town Business
Any business will fail unless it allocates its resources responsibly. If banks don't, they'll go out of business (or get bailed out, but that's a different topic), if small businesses allocate money irresponsibly, they'll go out of business. With or without a loan.
yeahsure··on Many major websites are taking silent anti-ad-blocking measures
Not every site does it, but most of them do have tracking of some kind (at least google analytics). I refuse to give up these information in exchange for access to content.

If me blocking ads/tracking results in some company shutting down, then so be it. But maybe others will jump in to fill that gap and try something different like, say, a subscription fee, in which case I'll happily pay.

But if I/we just stop using those sites that I truly enjoy, then if/when they shut down others might be afraid to go into that market because they might think there's not enough interest in it.

All of this is just a guess, obviously.

yeahsure··on Many major websites are taking silent anti-ad-blocking measures
Going through the trouble of clicking/closing a few ads is not the same as having your information being added to an ever-growing file that major corporations have on everyone.

And you can't say "just don't visit the site" because pretty much every site does this. You might as well say "just quit the internet" which obviously is not a solution.

yeahsure··on Ask HN: What similarities might the crypto market have with the dot com bubble?
These issues have already been fixed by other crypto currencies like Bitcoin Cash.

The core development team behind Bitcoin doesn't seem to be interested in fixing these problems for the time being.

yeahsure··on Bitcoin Takes Bigger Wall Street Stage with Smooth CME Debut
Good point and I agree. That said I still don't think this would count like a true libertarian experiment because -like you point out- it is in the real world where you still have to abide by the rules of government/society.

But yeah, this is probably the closest we have gotten to a libertarian test-drive through technology.

yeahsure··on Bitcoin Takes Bigger Wall Street Stage with Smooth CME Debut
That's my point. More choices = better for business. Not everyone is scared of being scammed because they pay with a crypto currency.
yeahsure··on Bitcoin Takes Bigger Wall Street Stage with Smooth CME Debut
I'm talking about taxes distorting the market. A taxed market is not a libertarian paradise.
yeahsure··on Bitcoin Takes Bigger Wall Street Stage with Smooth CME Debut
Having a choice is always better. You are not required to accept crypto currencies.

> With a credit card, all I have to do is raise a dispute.

And that's a real problem if you're trying to run a business.

yeahsure··on Bitcoin Takes Bigger Wall Street Stage with Smooth CME Debut
But governments are limiting activities through legislation and taxes.

Say the crypto of your choice dips by 15 percent, but if you want to cash out you'll have to pay capital gains tax + the exchange fees. You then may decide to just leave the money in the market in hopes that it reverses the trend. Thus the market is not really working freely in my opinion.

When was the last time gold was traded for < $10? Not everything that goes up is surely to go down. At least not in a lifetime. Nobody really knows what's going to happen, that's market 101.

Lots of people like to repeat the "$200K" (It was actually $300K) paid to Gal Gadot. But fail to mention that she's also taking a percentage of the profits. That's what most actors are paid when starting a franchise, given that nobody knows if the project will be a success at the box office or not.

yeahsure··on How to hack a turned-off computer, or running unsigned code in Intel ME
I would rather be easily exploitable so people realize how bad this is. The alternative is only governments/powerful corporations exploiting it forever without repercussions.

yeahsure··on Equifax Faces Multibillion-Dollar Lawsuit Over Hack
No, now you need to sign up for identity-theft protection because Equifax handed all your info to the bad guys.

If it weren't for Equifax, anyone trying to use your identity would have a much harder time.

yeahsure··on Ask HN (again): What is the best affordable programmable drone?
I'm not an expert but I have quite a bit of experience in the RC world.

I haven't seen anything that fits those requirements in that price range.

Just getting a PixHawk flight controller so you can program the drone would cost that much. Same for a good radio transmitter to actually fly the drone.

I think DIY is out of the question at that price point.
