I'd appreciate any and all feedback, particular wrt market positioning and differentiation.

Yak will have the classic chicken-and-egg problem of being kinda lame prior to having a critical mass of users. Any ideas of how to jump-start growth are welcomed.

I've tried several of the wireframing tools you list, and I prefer Mockflow (http://mockflow.com) to them all.

We did with Yak, which has many features of Reddit plus several original ones and different positioning. Agree that hotness and un-sucky comment surfacing are the "secret sauce" of Reddit. Not quite ready to open the doors, but taking emails at http://yak.to

I reached the end of this story and thought, "they're following their heart and building something they'll personally use every day." ("We’re really excited about this app because it’s very useful to our daily life.")

Some things are more important than commercial success, and taking the exit door when presented with a base hit or standup double, especially when it's a product your heart's not in, doesn't sound like that bad of a choice to me. I'm in a very similar situation atm.

My theory: because each unit of time is a smaller relative percentage of our existence to date.

For example, to a 5-yr-old, one year is 20% of their lifespan, and seems to last a loong time. But to a 50-yr-old, one year is only 2% of their lifespan, and flies by.

I call sampling error. Bing users are easily pleased with results, take anything they're shown. Google users look harder, and often refine a search.

I'm not a scientist, but isn't it super cold in space, just above absolute zero? If you can keep the (direct and hot) sunlight off the boxes with reflectors, I'd think the ambient temperature would be far lower than anything attainable by earth-bound datacenter cooling systems, so therefore radiation would be a most excellent cooling system. In fact, you might have the opposite problem, and have to figure out how to reliably prevent the boxes from freezing when not exposed to sunlight.

"Growl for browsers." Sounds like a good startup pitch. Tough to monetize, perhaps (tiny ads?).

Boxcar is doing it for iPhones/iPads.

Love my 13" MBA (2nd gen) with 2GB. Gave up a $4K 15" MBP with 8GB and SSD for it, and haven't regretted the decision once in 3 months or so.

MBA is much quieter (fan rarely runs, when it does it's much quieter), way more comfy on the lap or in bed, much cooler, and has a strikingly better display (brighter, crisper, slightly smaller size no big deal since rez the same).

I work in a Rails + MongoDB stack plus do a lot of design, so I'll routinely have RubyMine, Photoshop, Illustrator, mongod, mongrels, 3 browsers, and a few dozen browser tabs open at once.

If I had to make the purchase again, I'd get the 4GB model, since it's RAM that usually limits me, even though the swapping is fast with SSD.

Miss the Firewire occasionally since I like to use a Duet to lay down guitar tracks in Logic, but will probably get a dedicated iMac for the studio soon.

Sounds like a giant Gameboy.

While riding your Segway? Just don't see it happening (average folks holding a tablet-size device in front of their face, running AR apps).
