xuhu··on Lazygit: Simple terminal UI for Git commands
Of tools that mash interactive GUIs (lazygit) with scriptable shells (git fuzzy), I only know of AutoCAD. Scripts would routinely ask you to interactively select a set of points or an item in a list.

Are there other apps that offer scriptable GUIs ?

xuhu··on Impact of RHEL Changes to AlmaLinux
When RHEL compatibility is mentioned, I always wonder which kind. ABI for system libs, default packages and patches, kernel symbols and structs, selinux policies ? And if "all of the above" then what room for improvement via forks is there ?
xuhu··on I’m ChatGPT, and for the love of God please don’t make me do anymore copywriting
> Isn’t there a different intelligent species I could be helping out?

If only there was a reddit for dogs, so an AI could be trained to complete sentences in their language.

xuhu··on Russia killed its tech industry
It could be said that Europe collectively voted out communism at the end of the 80's.
xuhu··on Unwinding the Stack the Hard Way
Probably most valid code addresses on the stack are from older calls that are no longer part of the current call chain.
xuhu··on Firefox rolls out Total Cookie Protection by default to more users
Will bitbucket.org sending me to oauth.atlassian.com fail with Total Cookie Protection enabled ?

Will someonlineshop.com redirecting me to payments.mybank.com fail with Total Cookie Protection enabled because the payments site uses cookies to store the return url for the online shop ?

xuhu··on Fanless ThinkPad x13s running Ubuntu 23.04 ARM64 with customized Linux kernel
Are there any other ARM64 Windows laptops which are further along in terms of unofficial Linux support ?
xuhu··on Reverse Engineering the Facebook Messenger API
Messenger conversations are persistent, so a more apples to apples comparison would be against emails.
xuhu··on Paris votes to ban rental e-scooters
103,000 people voted out of 1.38M registered voters.
xuhu··on Why do people demand from themselves anything less than greatness?
Because some view greatness as a by-product.
xuhu··on Windows Sandbox
As someone noted, running `restart` in the sandbox sounds like it results in Windows preserving the sandbox.
xuhu··on OpenAI expects GPT-5 to achieve AGI
As the saying goes, you can teach a kid from the jungle to play Go, but you can't teach a an AI that plays Go to live in the jungle.
xuhu··on Why the Floppy Disk Just Won’t Die
"... a floppy-to-USB emulator. These devices cost around $275".

The last one I bought on ebay was $25. And it works.

xuhu··on Facebook LLAMA is being openly distributed via torrents
If you find an AI generated response online, and ask GhatGPT if it was the author, it says "it was probably written by a human". But we all know there is a split infinitive here, and an archaic form there, and it knows. But it won't tell us.
xuhu··on Ask HN: What useful physical hobbies there are?
Growing fruit and vegetables from a small orchard, and selling them (fresh, canned, made into jam, etc).
xuhu··on A C64 MP3 Player
Found this (cubic player on a 386DX at 40MHz) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Jj97NXgHw4 and I'm wondering how much a 32bit ISA is better than a 16bit one for integer decoding.
xuhu··on A C64 MP3 Player
Can a 386SX play an mp3 ? Or any CPU without a FPU for that matter ?
xuhu··on How to create portable Linux binaries
> Don’t try to statically link libc or libstdc++, this may cause trouble with other system libs you’ll use (because the system libs dynamically link libc and maybe libstdc++ - probably in versions different from what you linked statically. That causes conflicts.)

I guess linking libstdc++ statically is fine if it doesn't show up in ldd ?

xuhu··on A manifesto on shower temperature control
I hope Sport mode changes both rpm limit and pedal response.
xuhu··on I almost bought a scanner
...and would there be any distortion in the result ? If this works, it should also work for printing sewing patterns which are a pain to copy by hand.
xuhu··on Hyundai Head Unit Hacking
I wonder if cars from 50 years ago came with two wooden ramps that you could place next to the rear wheels and back up onto them before turning the ignition off.
xuhu··on CDC File Transfer
How does cdc_rsync compare to Courgette for sending a 500MB rebuilt ELF binary where .text and .data now have slightly different offsets ?
xuhu··on Filmora and Adobe decide to use “Kdenlive” as a keyword in their online ads
When Adobe markets their product as an alternative to yours, you know you're doing it right.
xuhu··on Filmora and Adobe decide to use “Kdenlive” as a keyword in their online ads
Tangentially, is someone working on smooth previews for the rendered output ? Kdenlive provides preview zones where it encodes just a small selected segment so it plays smooth as opposed to at 7fps when previewing.

Encoding the entire output can understandably run slower than 1x, but transitions can be rendered on the plain decoded inputs, so I'm still hoping to see instant smooth previews in a future release.

xuhu··on Linux Kernel Ksmbd Use-After-Free Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
Do any shares have to be defined or just the module enabled for this to work ?
xuhu··on Xbrowsersync – open-source Bookmark Synching
Can you turn off your office workstation, go home and have your bookmarks copied by Syncthing when you turn on your laptop ?
xuhu··on YouTube Transcript – read YouTube videos
Just checked that google also includes youtube captions in search returns.
xuhu··on Ask HN: Networking with hackers in a small town?
Plumbers don't have side projects and they don't accept pull requests either.
xuhu··on Show HN: FFmpeg Command Visualizer and Editor
I really wish someone makes an ffmpeg GUI that gives you a visual editing timeline but also allows you to use filtergraphs.
xuhu··on TCP Connection Repair
Since the ELF interpreter and glibc initialize differently depending on cpu flags, it's probably unlikely that migrating between arbitrary hosts can be expected to always work.
