xfkechyk··on NFTs Are a Dangerous Trap
There are plenty of products where scarcity is intentionally created, though. Disney DVDs are a prime example.

How did they signal they have no faith in the platform? This move was to consolidate to just focusing on developing the platform.

I think one problem with NIT is it would likely pay out annually, when income taxes are filed. That's not very helpful if you're living paycheck to paycheck. UBI can more easily dish out money on a more frequent basis. Additionally, this was already mentioned elsewhere, but, a major argument for UBI is that not having any sort of means-testing will drastically streamline the process, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. NIT still involves means-testing.
xfkechyk··on Procrastination is about managing emotions, not time
If you had a nutritional deficiency, would you avoid taking a supplement? Cause that's what the ADHD medication is doing; regulating dopamine and norepinephrine, which are usually deficient in ADHD brains.
xfkechyk··on Procrastination is about managing emotions, not time
I'm not sure this is much of a "counterpoint". Medication isn't the only solution to ADHD. In fact, it's often recommended that ADHD be treated with medication AND therapy, which often involves working on things like executive function. Also, there are different types of medication for ADHD. If you only tried Vyvanse, it's possible that a different type of medication would help without the negative side effects. You wouldn't say you're allergic to all antibiotics if you had a reaction to a single antibiotic.

xfkechyk··on Magic Leap One
Apples to oranges:

"And this is where another comparison between Magic Leap and Theranos falls apart. Most of the former's investors are sophisticated tech venture capitalists, who Abovitz says were “sending their brilliant professors from all the top schools to try and shoot us down.” Theranos, on the other hand, largely raised money from rich individuals whose life sciences experience began and ended with high school biology. Magic Leap's board includes Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Alibaba co-founder Joe Tsai ― whereas Theranos directors used to include former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and George Shultz."

as was mentioned below, you don't really have a choice with road tolling systems. i don't like having to pre-load $xx, but it's better then the only alternative. people can stop interacting with Patreon, but you can't really avoid toll roads very easily.

xfkechyk··on What Slack might learn from its Open Source alternative
if you need to connect to a team that is not on your hosted server, you can still do so via the web or the desktop client either in a separate tab in the browser, or in a separate tab in the desktop client.
xfkechyk··on What Slack might learn from its Open Source alternative
that doesn't occur without threaded messaging? threaded messaging makes it easier to ignore those sub-discussions...
xfkechyk··on What Slack might learn from its Open Source alternative
comment threading is kind of amazing (in mattermost).
xfkechyk··on What Slack might learn from its Open Source alternative
> Slack has been... very slow to fix bugs / add new features. They're starting to feel like Microsoft... like they don't move fast, aren't trying to improve anything, and don't care about customer feedback.

we're looking for a self-hosted alternative. tried hipchat, and it was worse than slack in the areas you mentioned. mattermost has been a ray of sunshine, so far, relatively speaking. still testing it out, but they are super responsive to their users and community, between github, their forum, their pre-release server (https://pre-release.mattermost.com/core ), etc... they also seem to be aggressively adding new features and fixing bugs.

I realize I probably sound like a shill, but it just has been that much of a positive experience so far.

still testing out mattermost, but ios app seems great so far. very similar experience between web/desktop/ios apps.
