wy35··on Cognition launches new SWE-2 model, Rivaling Fable 5.1 and GPT-Astra
Is there an implication here I'm missing?
wy35··on We found a division by zero bug in FFmpeg with a vibecoded fuzzer
Unrelated to the submitted link -- just checked your comment history and all of your comments are AI-generated like this one. What's the motivation for this?
wy35··on I were 17, I'd learn how to build LLMs from scratch
What would be better advice for a 17 year old?
wy35··on Bonsai 27B: A 27B-Class model that runs on a phone
Of course not, personally almost all of my code these days is generated.

The LLM style of writing is just very distracting to read. “It unlocks X”, “Y changes the equation”, and why is there always something shifting? Makes my eyes glaze over in an otherwise interesting post.

wy35··on Bonsai 27B: A 27B-Class model that runs on a phone
Entire blog post seems to be AI-generated :/
wy35··on How to earn a billion dollars
PG missed her point to an astounding degree. I’m sort of dumbfounded at this level of misinterpretation.
wy35··on Waymo says can't avoid bike lanes because riders want to be dropped off in them
Which town is this? I find it hard to believe that the mayor did not add an exception for emergency and commercial vehicles.
wy35··on Perplexity Comet
Scroll hijacking is the worst. Makes everything feel sluggish and unresponsive. Instantly gives me the urge to close out the tab.
wy35··on Finding Shawn Mendes (2019)
This is hilarious, I need to find more blog posts like this.
wy35··on SpacetimeDB
>SpacetimeDB wasn't built in a vacuum. It's the system powers our own large-scale MMORPG BitCraft.

I checked out BitCraft and it's not released yet. Don't know if I'm being unfair here, but isn't this a bit misleading?

wy35··on DoppelBot: Replace Your CEO with an LLM
I mean, this is clearly an unserious post. This is more of a fun tech demo than anything.
wy35··on A laptop stand made from a single sheet of recycled paper
Didn't know about the SmartDesign/OXO vegetable peeler, very interesting rabbit hole to go down.

wy35··on Our muscles will atrophy as we climb the Kardashev Scale
Yes. "Kardashev Scale" has now become a slop indicator.
wy35··on Show HN: I designed an espresso machine and coffee grinder
Could you go more into detail on the actual process of designing, prototyping, and manufacturing? Like how would an average person, given enough motivation, do what you were able to accomplish?

Also, how did you fund this?

wy35··on Mourning and moving on: rituals for leaving a career (2014)
I don’t agree. It’s obviously not a “real” wake, just something for friends to hang out and show support. And switching careers often means moving to a different city, so it would be nice to say goodbye to friends who won’t be seen for years (or forever).

I’ve been to a couple “deportation parties” for friends who couldn’t get their visas renewed, and it’s sort of the same thing. Mostly lighthearted but a slight somber undertone.

wy35··on A new term, ‘slop’, has emerged to describe dubious A.I.-generated material
Ok, think about it like this. It's your anniversary with your partner so you decide to commission a drawing from an artist as a gift. However, when you receive it, it's clearly an AI-generated image that was printed out.

Would you still consider that "spam"?

wy35··on A new term, ‘slop’, has emerged to describe dubious A.I.-generated material
It's definitely not the same.

Spam is trying to sell you something, e.g. an unsolicited email peddling a supplements.

Slop is low-quality content, e.g. someone taking a bunch of bird pictures off Google and posting it in a birding Facebook group.

Spam is an ad, slop is not. With AI, it is now much easier to generate slop.

wy35··on Llama 3-V: Matching GPT4-V with a 100x smaller model and 500 dollars
This aged well...

wy35··on Show HN: Peanut Butter Spinner
Amazing, I’m obsessed with niche machines like these. The more oddly specific, the better.
wy35··on A review on protein language models
Honestly I wish I learned more biology in college instead of cruising through a CS degree for a generic software engineering career. Now that I’ve gained more interest in bio, the doors have closed.
wy35··on I should have loved biology (2020)
Wow, downvotes were harsh here.

FWIW I don’t think it’s a bad thing to repost articles that were last posted years ago. I didn’t see this article when it was posted in 2020 and 2022, and I probably wouldn’t have seen it ever if you didn’t repost it now.

wy35··on Hawaii moves to ban short-term rentals to address housing crisis
You are correct, but it seems to be far easier to create new laws (e.g. to ban short-term Airbnbs) than to amend or retract current laws (e.g. strict zoning regulations).
wy35··on We need more calm companies
My thoughts exactly. This seems to be a general trend, too. I feel like half the blog posts I read on HN start off interesting but suddenly switch into an advertisement.
wy35··on JPMorgan to sell customer transaction data to advertisers
Because it's an editorialized title, which is explicitly against the rules. @dang will correct it (maybe).
wy35··on Jsonformer: Generate structured output from LLMs
Very interesting. I've only been using OpenAI APIs so this logit stuff is new to me.
wy35··on GPT-4
I wonder how it scored on the individual sections in the LSAT? Which section is it the best at answering?
wy35··on Kerbal Space Program free on Epic
> The way Fortnite targets kids for Vbucks and skin sales is pretty gross too. Many stories of Mommy's credit card being ran up.

This isn’t exclusive to Fortnite, by FAR. Singling out Epic isn’t really fair when the same exact thing happens with Roblox, Clash of Clans, etc.

wy35··on You don't need live chat on your website
Another opinion that is basically "well I don't like it so it must be bad for everyone!!!"

From the company-side, live chat has generated tons of leads for us vs. just an email address. It's also easier to manage these leads inside live chat software vs. a messy inbox.

From the customer-side, it's very annoying to do quick and frequent back-and-forth conversation via email. Replies take way longer and I want to see the entire conversation at once vs. in an email thread. Live chat fills the space of being as fast as phone calls but as convenient as email. There are times when I need instant support but can't call (e.g. if I'm in a noisy cafe and I need to resolve something while I have information pulled up on my laptop).

wy35··on Ask HN: Any good black Friday deals?
Yeah, on Amazon. Whoops, forgot to specify.
wy35··on Ask HN: Any good black Friday deals?
rOtring 800 is down to $20. Lost mine a couple weeks ago and was really bummed.
