wseqyrku··on CEO who fired 900 people on Zoom just before Christmas wants his job back
I'm asking because here everyone seems to be making a big deal out of this particular case. But it's hardly anything new. If you wanna make a comment on the person responsible or turn of events that leads here you gotta zoom out a little. It's the whole goddam system that allows this.
wseqyrku··on CEO who fired 900 people on Zoom just before Christmas wants his job back
Wondering why he's taking the heat out of literally everyone else, it's not like layoffs were rare to begin with and that this is the last poor bastard we will ever know to be responsible.
wseqyrku··on Every Fucking Website (2020)
I can ignore all this except for the cookie banner, it is a technical issue and the likes of google in the industry are responsible to solve rather than letting marketing or product get "creative" with it. This is pretty stupid and we all should be embarrassed by the fucking mess that we created for everyone.
wseqyrku··on Ask HN: How's Everyone Feeling Today?
I realized that I've never been in control at any point in my entire life despite that I thought otherwise, which is kind of a relief: no regrets for the past. Consciously making peace with uncertainty though is not for the faint of heart. Working on that.
wseqyrku··on Ask HN: How are you preventing brainrot?
I self-quarantined ever since AI took over the industry and it's been the most productive year so far. I essentially take the next problem to tackle and go insane for a couple days until it compiles. Highly recommend.
wseqyrku··on You Can't Copy Palantir
Yeah it's called hn-as-a-twitter. I do this all the time.
wseqyrku··on Understanding is the new bottleneck
If you try to spec the problem with all the painful details for the machine to understand, you will end up with a rust codebase.
wseqyrku··on We spent ten years burying the 10x engineer myth. AI is digging it back up
A 10x engineer is just as good as her tools. If you need a datacenter next to your laptop you're out of luck.
wseqyrku··on Is OpenAI hardware, the Apple of tommorow?
Linux phones are the future, since the software more or less exists it does look like a low hanging fruit, someone just needs to reach out and make it a proper consumer product.
wseqyrku··on AI is removing the middle class of software engineering?
In my previous job the entire DevOps team were terminators from the gym. I don't know when or how they were attracted to software, and why. There's so many other jobs they could spend time on and be successful rather than writing yamls.
wseqyrku··on Ask HN: Why are websites and apps still running legacy code?
> businesses

Because they are not software businesses, so they treat it like furniture. If it looks like a furniture and it's right there, then what are you even asking, it's right there I can even see it

wseqyrku··on [dead]
> OAI and A\

Did you mean "any GenAI tool whatsoever"? Nothing special about those two big ones except the brand and the huge capacity to devour and repurpose any and all data you send to them.

wseqyrku··on Ask HN: Is there a mobile operating system with (wasi) container support?
Far from what I had imagined. If there was a OS that executes this one thing well there's hardly any reason to choose any of current enshittified alternatives.
wseqyrku··on Tech sucks: You have to vote with your wallet, or nothing will change
You can also vote with where you apply to work for. Employees in these companies are your fellow developers, unless they are drowned deep enough in their role in which case they are part of the problem.
wseqyrku··on Using AI without losing your critical thinking
> The industry has been using the term AI Psychosis to describe a person who blindly believes everything that AI says,

I thought it meant to describe a person who cannot stop asking AI for everything and lose the appetite for thinking?

wseqyrku··on Reconsidering My Relationship with the Fediverse
> but rather people who were just looking for a fight.

Right before the time this happened I was already out of the social media so I completely missed out on the move from twitter to fediverse. It was only four years later when I came back and faced a graveyard of all the dead accounts I was following, announcing their departure.

Now reading on what happened in the fediverse, my first guess is that they weren't people, they were the offensive team of the competing social platforms. It is a theory but it feels like your hosting platform attacking your website to sell you a firewall. There's always incentive in malicious behavior, it's not just that they were being a dick.

wseqyrku··on Why is it all in the kernel?
> Proof assistant kernel, not operating system kernel

It's the neologism they use to own the word and define it however they want. The other one is 'harness' that I didn't even click to see what they want it to mean.

wseqyrku··on Don't be a meat proxy
Only in corporate setting.
wseqyrku··on Don't be a meat proxy
> "I asked Claude what happened, and it spit out this 300 line response. Can you read it for me and see if it’s right?”

I would totally lose it if someone come up to me with that shit. Zero chance I would put up with it.

wseqyrku··on How the words we teach English language learners changed
It's changed so much I can't even parse the title.
wseqyrku··on Get ready to flee, Americans in ten countries warned
I meant the entire time not 47 years ago sharp. You won't see what you're ignoring no matter how close it gets to you.
wseqyrku··on Get ready to flee, Americans in ten countries warned
Where you were for the last 47 years? Turn on the news.
wseqyrku··on Google has abandoned Google News?
I suggest replacing google's News tab with Magic! because it's so heavily messed with you cannot make sense of the ranking. For some queries on ongoing events I've seen headlines come up from the last month or older as the first result. How hard you mofos want to suppress information?
wseqyrku··on Tell HN: I hate your fuzzy search
Funny you asked, turns out it is quite hard because you must know a lot more about nature of your data and also intricate user needs to design an effective system like that. Fuzzy search is like bluetooth, slap it on and it kind of sort of works. Afterall, everything is better with bluetooth.
wseqyrku··on What If We Can Never Trust A.I.?
Thanks to AI, you can never trust the internet too. We're going to swim in generated content like never before.
wseqyrku··on Ask HN: How did your boss's behavior change with the rise of AI?
I work solo and I am in constant fear that I could probably do this faster with AI. The answer is usually "not yet", time and again I find that you'd need a whole lot of infrastructure in place to make that one hundred percent true.
wseqyrku··on How to Do Great Work (2023)
Actually try it, it's pretty good. Especially when the alternative doesn't exist. And mind you, I am not pro-AI at all, it might not come off that way under this thread. Despite that I did appreciate whoever made it. File it under personal preference.
wseqyrku··on How to Do Great Work (2023)
It's not like I wanted to play it in the background. In this particular case, I rather watch the talk than reading the essay if it's available. It's just interesting to have this option now which wasn't possible before.
wseqyrku··on How to Do Great Work (2023)
Because I enjoy his talks but he obviously didn't do a talk for every single essay.
wseqyrku··on How to Do Great Work (2023)
You can listen to this on youtube with pg's own voice which I find a pretty neat use of AI.
