Sadly, I feel this is the result - if we’re not going to be colorblind as a rule everyone is going to “wise up” (and I use the phrase loosely) and start attacking everyone else.
We’ve definitely paid for the road. We pay every time we fill our tank.
I’m not defending the hospital in TFA, per se, but my wife recently had an ER visit on a miscarriage. She was immediately admitted and tended to be a doctor for the fact that she was hemorrhaging.
During the course of our 12 hours I came and went from her room through the waiting room and to my vehicle. Saw folks waiting hours and hours. For all I know they had a faulty pump.
When it came time for dismissal, we waited hours and hours. The attending staff were handing a GSW and a head trauma on a child. While I didn’t go full-Karen I had to drop the “my wife suffered a miscarriage and is having a mental breakdown, are we going to be banned from your hostile system if we just leave?” to receive final clearance to leave.
Triage is just… complicated. You can’t plan and staff accurately for random tragedy.
So dangerous we need to outlaw its sale… but hey we don’t wanna waste a few dollars here…
The technology is there for hip replacements, it would seem.
I worked next door to the church that was shot up in Charleston and felt similarly moved despite not knowing them, never having been inside the building, and not having even been a Christian at the time.
It is a bit strange at some level - not having any true connection beyond proximity but you should probably worry if you _don’t_ at least feel a little something.
I ask because worked for a cybersecurity firm and we would, on occasion, and mostly the “teh lulz” screw with phone scams. Our legal had nothing to say on that front.
The real issue was the waiting list…
What bothers me is the folks that ask-to-ask then go ghost for 15 minutes or more. You’ve captured my attention, please capitalize on it! If you’ve broken my concentration and walked away, _that_ is rude.
Another “fun fact,” when the asbestos ban went into place builders were still allowed to use any remaining stock they held in their warehouses. No new product could be purchased. So homes could still be built years later with a now banned substance.
Fascinating bit of law there.
If Bourdain says my old Waffle House beats a French laundromat who am I to argue?
Cultural institutions are something to behold.
I’ve only rarely seen condo styles with shared systems and those typically come with unappealing expensive management fees, insurance, and shared expense to the tune 500+ per month on top of the price for the unit itself. My father used to mantain the infrastructure for such a development and those were prices circa 2000 or so.
Have a great night.
Then wonder why we are hesitant to spend the money on boarding dogs, driving 5+ hours and renting a hotel. Asking us to commit to $500+ dollars for weekend casual visits is unrealistic and absurd for wealthy retirees.
To be clear they not only have no guest room they have no where for guests to stay.
I’m of the other cohort, such that you might say my parent has forced my hand in estranging them through their actions but I feel that is nothing more than word choice.
Both are certainly downstream of the “me generation,” in terms of how they’ve lived their lives and so I ask, “if you live for you, why should I pain myself to please you?”
Interestingly, neither my parents nor my wife’s parents have guest bedrooms in their 4+ bedroom homes. Yet they wonder why we seldom visit. There’s no question of their ability to have one, they have the room and the finances. They just choose not to.
There’s something fascinating with our parents generation.
Seemingly, our strategy in the WWII was to invest in technology where possible but at the same time throwing many trucks and jeeps and puny Sherman tanks and guns and bandages and bullets and beans at the problem as possible.
Whereas in modern America we seem so much a “wonder weapons” mindset? That seems a poor posture in light of the article, all those expensive weapons will become a burden to protect or just outright destroyed.
Is the payoff worse for ship builders?
For the American Alligator night hunting is the norm with lights being legal (to spot for eye reflection.)

Is there much prior example of other metropolis making this deep of a design choice on small details like a custom font?
Nothing says “Fuck the System!” like solar panels and a wood burning stove I guess?
