williamle8300··on LinkedIn: It’s illegal to scrape our website without permission
Actually, no.

It's like taking pictures of the paintings from the street, and reselling those pictures.

If they don't like that... that the painting down. Simple.

williamle8300··on LinkedIn: It’s illegal to scrape our website without permission
Yes! Exactly. This is the best, most clear argument for how cases like this should be handled.
williamle8300··on SEC Issues Report Concluding DAO Tokens, a Digital Asset, Were Securities
You can't change the thirst for freedom inborne in every man via laws. This will only make cryptocurrency slip more easily through their fingers and galvanize efforts to avoid oversight.
williamle8300··on Snopes asks community for donations
I've read somewhere that the couple who initially started Snopes are unabashedly left-wing
williamle8300··on Dun and Bradstreet teams up with Microsoft to reimagine the power of data
Agreed. D&B is a complete racket.
williamle8300··on YouTube Will Redirect Searches For Extremist Videos To Anti-Terrorist Playlists
Heartily agree.

YouTube is trying to be Big Brother for us. What they don't realize is they're infantilizing all of their users by doing this.

williamle8300··on YouTube Will Redirect Searches For Extremist Videos To Anti-Terrorist Playlists
So how will people know just how vile ISIS is? Should be defer our judgement to main stream news media to tell us?

It's absurd that the Redirect company's mission statement is to "counter censorship" and their main job is to censor information.

williamle8300··on In Urban China, Cash Is Rapidly Becoming Obsolete
No thanks. Cash is king. Money should never be traceable, and you should be able to buy with anonymity.
williamle8300··on Build a Serverless Web Applicaion
Amazon wants to control markets by leading in with "convenience" factor but they will sheist you.

Buy stuff from Amazon... but for Pete's sake don't make them a core project dependency for your software projects. You only have yourself to blame when they start ratcheting up their prices.

williamle8300··on Scientific research piracy site hit with $15M fine
If history tells us anything another Sci-Hub or more powerful reiteration will surface and will eventually "win." You can't contain ideas.
williamle8300··on If you can’t explain something in simple terms, you don’t understand it
Person A: Trump is colluding with Russia...

Person B: How?

Person A: You're a dummy! There's mountains of evidence!

Person B: Like...

Person A: You're killing the vibe brah.

williamle8300··on Uber CEO Kalanick likely to take leave
Note the article: Kalanick has "super voting powers." The board didn't put him on an involuntary vacation. He put himself on a vacation to avoid the fallout from the leaked email[1]

williamle8300··on Amazon Drive removing unlimited storage plan
Yup. Totally agreed.

But duuuude. How much did you pay for that domain?! NOICE.

williamle8300··on HEIF – High Efficiency Image File Format
If I could give unsolicited advice: focus on graceful progressive enhancements. Galleries, tiles, etc should be left to JavaScript.
williamle8300··on JSC loves ES6
This is huge. Jeff Atwood was right all along...
williamle8300··on Wal-Mart will pay employees to deliver packages on their way home
If you think your employer is crooked, then... quit?

I can't do everything for you. This is basic life skills.

williamle8300··on Wal-Mart will pay employees to deliver packages on their way home
It says they can "opt in"... why are you criticizing this?

And yes, they can also "opt in" whether to find a new job, and quit Walmart.

williamle8300··on Pinboard Acquires Delicious
> Do not attempt to compete with Pinboard.

Wha... not sure if he's letting the success get to his head, or he is actually trying to ward off competitors. Real innovative people are motivated by challenges like this so he's gonna have to eat his hat for saying that.

williamle8300··on Trump 'poised to quit Paris climate deal'
What authority would tax the US? And why would the US even care about complying to it?
williamle8300··on Trump 'poised to quit Paris climate deal'
At the risk of sounding nutty... I'll say it anyway.

The Paris climate deal is a cabal for Goldman-Sachs to draw money from governments via the taxes levied for participating countries. If you read the deal itself, the language doesn't have any metrics for success... it's goals and methodologies for combatting climate change is really hoaky.

williamle8300··on If It Weren’t for Apple, Hybrid App Development Would Be the Winner Over Native
If notifications could be brought to Hybrid Apps... that would be the swan song of iOS/Android. HTML5 can access all of hardware on the phone but lacks notifications so it's still not viable to only make Hybrid web apps.
williamle8300··on Get your loved ones off Facebook
Awesome. Do you do photo-hosting? I could see that easily sapping away all of your money. Or is it just text?
williamle8300··on Get your loved ones off Facebook
It looks beautiful! It reminds me of Gingko (https://gingkoapp.com) and Pinboard.

How are you guys going to make money? I understand it's a non-profit but you're gonna still need money for servers and man-hours.

williamle8300··on Get your loved ones off Facebook
What's Lyra? I just see a website that looks like a social media marketing agency.
williamle8300··on Killing C.I.A. Informants, China Crippled U.S. Spying Operations
Yes
williamle8300··on Killing C.I.A. Informants, China Crippled U.S. Spying Operations
Well, I believe in freedom of speech so I don't see why it can't be in HN and YouTube.

But you like to put things in boxes dontcha.

williamle8300··on Design principle: IKEA effect
The only problem is that IKEA furniture smells like formaldehyde (more often than not).
williamle8300··on A startup’s Firebase bill suddenly increased from $25 to $1750 per month
The price spike is dramatic... but is anyone actually surprised? Firebase is holding all the cards and users are expecting them to not play their hand. It's silly.

The solution is to build your own infrastructure. If you don't have the resources to do that, then find a lower-cost competitor.

williamle8300··on Keybase is out for iPhone, Android
How'd you guys build this? Are these native apps, or Cordova/Ionic?
