williamle8300··on Mark Zuckerberg Sued Native Hawaiians for Their Own Land [video]
You can't just take land and then negotiate a "fair price"
williamle8300··on LA Times barred from Disney movies after report on corporate welfare
Many times people don't have the "star power" to meet the threshold for the Streisand effect inflect.
williamle8300··on Something is wrong with children's videos on the internet
Ehh... well I'm biased because I would be labelled by people as alt-right.

Basically, just use your intuition... use it boldly. What does it tell you about these videos? It's weiiiird

williamle8300··on Breitbart, other conservative outlets escalate anti-SpaceX campaign
Breitbart is a bastion for free-thinking much like HackerNews. While you may criticize their opinions, it's at least sane reporting... instead of cheerleading and narrative controlling like CNN and NBC.
williamle8300··on “Startup” asks internship applicant to build their app before phone screen
"I'm reminded of _______. [insert some words]."

Woo-hoo! Daddy Soro's just got a new wrinkle under his eye!

williamle8300··on Tech Giants, Once Seen as Saviors, Are Now Viewed as Threats
All centralized power structures will transform into threats. The future of information technology will be in decentralization/anonymity... not centralization and always-public models.
williamle8300··on Can Anyone Beat Jeff Bezos?
Like... physically?
williamle8300··on 3D crosswalk in Iceland helps slow down speeding motorists
This is a bad idea. Once it loses its effectiveness it'll leave the drivers in a worse state.
williamle8300··on Did the Suits win the Internet?
Yes. The W3C committee just railroaded the DRM spec last week..
williamle8300··on Our Approach to Privacy
All the anti-constitutionalist people at the NSA are getting heartburn as we speak.
williamle8300··on Yarn 1.0: Workspaces, auto-merging lockfiles, selective versions resolutions
Do they use the same BSD+Patents license that's used for ReactJS?
williamle8300··on Kim Dotcom Spying Operation Was Illegal, NZ High Court Rules
Unless you've started a multi-million dollar company... I don't think you're in any place to call KimDotCom "fraud" or "idiot"
williamle8300··on How it feels to learn JavaScript in 2017
The author should have mentioned Preact[1]. I'd argue it's better than InfernoJS

1. https://preactjs.com

williamle8300··on AdNauseam – Clicking Ads So You Don't Have To
As a person who does stuff I wholeheartedly support doing whatever I want to stuff you put on my computer screen.
williamle8300··on HackerNews Grid
How'd you get the thumbnails?
williamle8300··on Ask HN: What does deliberate practice look like for computer programming?
Believe yourself to be competent. Never believe yourself to be wise.
williamle8300··on Startups should not use React
Facebook is like the Disney in the tech world. They want to be that trove of intellectual property.

They take free-to-use stuff (Disney is cheap ripoff of Hans Christian Anderson's fables), and create "magical" stuff that they protect with their arsenal of lawyers.

If Facebook is able to pull the wool over our eyes this time... OSS is gonna be in a bad place in the next century just like how Disney single-handedly lobbied to change public domain laws in America.

williamle8300··on React and Redux are a joke right?
Seems like the source of his gripes are with functional programming, not ReactJS itself.
williamle8300··on Ask HN: HN censoring Facebook licencing controversy?
Yup. The new HN admin's feefees are easily bruised...
williamle8300··on YouTube admits 'wrong call' over deletion of Syrian war crime videos
Google (parent company of YouTube) already sees itself as the protector of the public's eyes and ears. They might be contrite now but they behave as a censorshipping organization.
williamle8300··on Ask HN: Are you concerned about AI?
Not afraid of an hostile take over by AI. Everything is data all the way down so I'm afraid of those that wield that data.
williamle8300··on Why an eight-hour bus ride from Los Angeles to San Francisco might beat a flight
I'm guessing that the shortest routes from LA<–>SF will have more traffic so there's more stop-and-go which diminishes restful sleeping.
williamle8300··on Why an eight-hour bus ride from Los Angeles to San Francisco might beat a flight
One of the missing points: convenience. Taking a bus "feels" like less of a hassle. Nobody likes having to deal with authorities (check-in people, the TSA). Taking a bus means you have more control over the terms of your trip.

While raw time-to-destination is important, people are also looking for emotional expenditure savings too.

williamle8300··on Big brother is here, and his name is Facebook
Don't forget about Google. It's less of a salient problem... but all the data collection is created to be monetized. In a few years, we'll end up seeing really interesting ways that data will be sold (not just for advertisers).
williamle8300··on Google cancels meeting on gender controversy due to employee fears of harassment
Wow... I never knew about this.

This is a direct correlation between Google's "damage control" strategy and Marxism.

williamle8300··on Google cancels meeting on gender controversy due to employee fears of harassment
Agreed. Sundar's memo was just posturing...

"We want you to feel free to express different opinions..."

Proceeds to fire Damore...

williamle8300··on uBlock Origin Maintainer on Chrome vs. Firefox WebExtensions
Doesn't PrivacyBadger^1 solve the fingerprinting problem?

williamle8300··on Fired Google engineer files complaint, weighs legal options
Read the Sundar's letter. They're saying James was wrong, not that he not that James didn't fit the culture.
williamle8300··on Fired Google engineer files complaint, weighs legal options
Yea but Google isn't firing him for "lack of cultural fit." They're firing him because they don't like it. Big difference.
williamle8300··on Krita Foundation: Update
You guys should use the business model that the makers of Sketch use (Bohemian Coding).

You pay a one-time fee $99 to download the app with all available features and new features for one year (365 days). After 365 days, when the Bohemian Coding team builds new features you have to pay $99 again to get those features... etcetera.

It's a great business model because you get the best of both worlds (one-time, and subscription model). This gives you capital to get started, and bootstraps your company as the software matures.
