That seems incredibly wasteful and time-consuming.

You could only ship the source code and package-lock file and run `npm ci` or `npm install --production`, which would only install dependencies you're actually using on your production machine, rather than including testing libraries or build frameworks.

Even better, you could set up a build and take advantage of tree-shaking (to some extent at least), then ship less code in fewer files.

whostolemyhat··on For developers, Safari is crap and outdated
Our site broke in Safari because Safari handles dates (as in the built-in Date object) differently than all other browsers, so it's not just styling or visual things that can be different.

Would you like to be notified about meetings in your calendar?

Would you like notifications when someone mentions or DMs you in your work chat?

Yes

Would you like to know when you get emails?

Also only one of the things you mentioned has anything to do with notifications.

whostolemyhat··on Modern Javascript: Everything you missed over the last 10 years (2020)
This happens every time a Javascript topic comes up - hundreds of comments just regurgitating the same "Javascript is bad" memes. It's bad enough that's there's no real point in reading the comments on JS submissions since there's rarely discussion about the article.

> There’s a reason my copy of “JavaScript: The Good Parts” is extremely slim next to its sibling, “JavaScript: The Definitive Guide”.

Because one's a style guide and one's a complete API reference?

I hope you don't watch telly in your apartment; you should take that to a public park.
whostolemyhat··on GitHub to Remove 'Master' Terminology
Why?
whostolemyhat··on Size of node_modules folder when installing the top 100 packages
That's because there's no point including an entire library if you only need a few functions. It means that your deployed bundle is much smaller, which means that users don't need to download unused code and waste time/bandwidth (ie a good thing).

Tree shaking still isn't that great or widely available, so separate packages mean you can do this manually.

I assume you roll your own OS then?

whostolemyhat··on Small robots may kill the tractor and make farming efficient
More costly than building thousands of tiny robots or pollinating plants by hand?

It's tiny and right next to a couple of other links, so very difficult to press on mobile.

The youtuber who's claim to fame is making a video where he shouts 'Gas the Jews' repeatedly? I wonder why he wasn't listened to.

> "Free speech zone": a place where it's okay to promote e.g. National Socialism because the argument is that open discussion is more important than people's sensitivities or the denazification laws of Germany/France/etc.

It blocks hate speech, as clearly mentioned in that link.

Mine's https://www.jamestease.co.uk . I designed it about five years ago and can't be bothered to change it now :)

You also have to be careful in some places when asking for a mince pie. You might get a sweet christmas treat or a pie filled with mince.

whostolemyhat··on Facebook to change user terms, limiting effect of EU privacy law
The article mentions that they'll still try to claim revenue through Ireland for non-EU users, but that non-EU users technically have an agreement with the US company.

So no idea, basically.

Name is, email is, IP combined with either (or both) is.

It's $1 for removing the watermark from the video. The free version still has the watermark.
whostolemyhat··on The meaning of AMP
Well yeah, if you create your own definitions of things it's not surprising that Amp doesn't meet them.

When I think of "not the open web", I think of walled gardens like Facebook, Apple, and Amp.
