Tesla for example lets you pay to access their diagnostic software, so why is John Deere the bad guy here?
I'm always so shocked to see so many ads when I see people using Chrome or I have to use it for something myself.
I generally open the HN comment link, then click the article link, read it, then click back to read the comments.
I'll see if this split view feature works better for me though, but I think I'd prefer a horizontal split instead of vertical.
I believe things eventually got sorted out for water use, but I was no longer a customer.
If the products are being bred from tax funded programs, then yes, anybody should have access to the new breeds, but if it's privately funded, then why should it be available for everyone? Without the protection, there isn't much incentive to invest time into developing better foods.
Unless you can compromise the gem server to overwrite created_at fields, I don't see any exploits here.
Private gem servers are either already trusted (if they're your own) or already under some scrutiny and extra care already being taken (ideally), but this last case applies to very few projects I'm sure.
