Yes, you need to install the right version or Cupy hangs forever when installing via pip:

    pip install cupy-cuda12x

Let me set a karma that other users must meet before seeing my username.
welder··on Swimmable Cities
Yea, Alte and Neu Donau are safe but Donau and Kanal... I see people do it with a balloon strapped to their waist for visibility to boats, but I wouldn't do it.

Those pontoon ferry boats travel over 30 km/h on the Kanal.

welder··on Swimmable Cities
It's not so safe.. boats and currents. I prefer swimming in the pool that's floating on the canal:

welder··on Swimmable Cities
Vienna swimming is amazing. I was just swimming in Vienna Alte Donau a few days ago, before it started raining.

Because the Donau and Donau-insel are so long, you have many different ways to swim:

- swimming docks (alte donau) https://www.instagram.com/p/C_qMA8loXMv

- artificial beaches (CopaBeach)

- natural swimming (Neu Donau / Donau Insel) https://photos.app.goo.gl/d5iGqKP8uAjyYY81A

- Strandbad Angelibad for a roped off swim area with food and playgrounds

- Alte Hafenschenke where you swim on a tributary to the Donau

- swimming in a pool on a hill with a view of the city (Krapfenwaldlbad)

- swimming in a pool floating on the canal https://www.instagram.com/p/CiAb0gXufXx

- public pools cost only a few euros and have restaurants, slides, grass for picnics, sunbathing rooms (big rooms with no roof) https://www.heldenderfreizeit.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07...

You've also got Sausalito-style restaurants on the water all along the river:

welder··on Ask HN: Do we need to pay billions in fees to Stripe, Block, PayPal and Visa/MC?
Visa enables the fraud with their insecure payment system, then place the blame on merchants with chargeback fees.
welder··on Ask HN: Do we need to pay billions in fees to Stripe, Block, PayPal and Visa/MC?
Home Depot only exists in the USA. I was talking about EU where tap is everywhere.
welder··on Ask HN: Do we need to pay billions in fees to Stripe, Block, PayPal and Visa/MC?
Nobody uses physical cards anymore... even my kids pay with their toy watch when playing restaurant

Edit: Tap pay is ubiquitous in the EU

welder··on Show HN: I built Mailhub – A scalable API for sending emails with ease not tears
Nice pricing, slightly better priced than other email APIs.

I can also use it with my own templates, where I pass your API the full email body as HTML? I've already done the work for managing my own email templates and would only need a swap-in replacement for the email deliverability part if Mailgun becomes too expensive or their service declines after their acquisition.

welder··on Coinbase awarded a $500k bug bounty
I want to offer rewards (my site is on H1) but they require I sign up for a minimum $50k/yr subscription to enable that feature. I don't think that's a reason for concern, just means it's a smaller company.

> You can call tests "early"

Another way to say that is: you can randomly pick a winner

welder··on Show HN: Tea-tasting, a Python package for the statistical analysis of A/B tests
And the Student's t-test which was named so because William Sealy Gosset's employer (Guinness beer) allowed him to publish it anonymously, so he published using the pseudonym "Student".
welder··on Show HN: Tea-tasting, a Python package for the statistical analysis of A/B tests
And knowing beforehand when you won't get enough exposures to reach significance.

Not many people have enough traffic to A/B test small effects and reach significance without running the test for multiple years.

I don't use CUPED in my tests... how much can it reduce wait times?

welder··on Show HN: Tea-tasting, a Python package for the statistical analysis of A/B tests
I won't use any library that depends on numpy because of all the install issues in the past. Can't you do these tests with pure Python these days?
welder··on Anyone can access deleted and private repository data on GitHub
The only valid one is the last (3rd) one:

Accessing commits on a private fork when it's upstream is made public

The other 2 are just common sense... push something to a public repo and it's public forever. Everyone knows once somethings on the internet it's already too late to make it secret again.

welder··on Bangladesh police given 'shoot-on-sight' orders amid national curfew
No I mean reading the news I had the wrong idea of the situation. It's a total lockdown not a curfew.
welder··on Bangladesh police given 'shoot-on-sight' orders amid national curfew
I thought curfew meant only at night but sounds like nobody is allowed outside even in the daytime?

I get prototypes for features [0].

For me, the sweet spot is simple but time consuming tasks where the execution is very clear, or the result is very clear but I have to first read a ton of d3.js docs before implementing it. This stuff LLMs do faster than me typing it. Anything more involved where I myself don't know the final result yet, it's faster to figure out the problem while coding instead of trying to figure it out by describing to an LLM.

welder··on Some fundraisers pay >90% of the funds to themselves
Only donate to smaller non-profits, get to know them first, find out if the administrators take any income from the non-profit, then make up your mind to donate or not.

For example, one charity I like [0] runs a school and the administrators don't take any income from it.
